Alaska Daily (2022)
Watch worthy until episode 7
The topic of the series highlights the disproportionate abuse and violence against Indigenous women and the lack of government support and police accountability to address it. Totally worth watching and learning more. Then, all of a sudden, one episode is about misinformation in the media. It goes back to the series topic on episode eight.
As much as I would be willing to watch a show about the effects of misinformation, it's complicated unnecessary to squeeze in a totally different topic and hijack a topic that deserves full attention. So stupid. I would have rated this an eight if it wasn't for episode seven.
The Patient (2022)
Gripping and disturbing
Ignore the reviews from people who review a ten-episode series in episode three. After watching the first half (five episodes) I can say it is NOT dull and the flashbacks are about to make sense. If you are an impatient person, definitely binge this after all episodes are out. It is intense and the breaks in between episodes can be frustrating but who cares?!? Acting? Awesome! Plot? Unusual. Quality? Intriguing.
I don't know where it is going but it continues to gear up and you know something huge is coming. It's cringy but in all the ways a psychological suspense should be. I definitely would recommend this creepy slow burn.
The Terminal List (2022)
Highs and lows
Highs- fast-paced, intriguing plot with a lot of good action scenes and fierce energy. Some good actors are in this which is always fun to watch.
Lows- ripping out intestines (never necessary) and the main character (Chris Pratt) not showing strong acting skills around his family's death. I am a big fan of Pratt's and I felt bad for him and the writing around his grief.
Overall, action-oriented but pretty shallow.
You (2018)
Lolita inspired
Lolita gave the reader a perspective from the anti-hero, a sad, sick man obsessed with a young girl. YOU seems to have been inspired by the famous book. The main character is your classic anti-hero who is sick as a result of a bad childhood. He confuses love with controlling, paranoid obsession. It was so interesting to hear how he justifies his behavior. I watched it all feeling both disturbed and enthralled to learn how "Joe" could make such messed up decisions. The main female lead "Beck" was not relatable for me since she didn't really have anything likable. But let's be honest, sometimes men just like a hot girl who needs to be rescued. So, if you can get over the fact that his obsession was not especially admirable (frankly no one on the show is) then the psychology of the show's eerie steps into darkness is captivating.
