B.T.K. Killer (2005)
Stop in the name of all that which does not suck....
To compare this squalor with an old, low budget porno flick would be an insult to the old, low budget porno flick. The animal scenes have no meaning nor do they represent this man and his crimes even in the broadest sense of abstractions. The synopsis on the back of the DVD case says in part, "
gripping retelling of the BTK Killer's reign of terror." This is NOT a retelling. A retelling would suggest that you are being told the truth of what happened or how or why. None of these things are true. I'm an enthusiastic studier of serial killers and have seen some pretty crappy movies about them and honestly, this IS NOT one of them. This isn't even about the BTK killer. Save yourself some time and a few bucks and rent Dahmer instead. THAT serial killer movie is accurate and true. However, if you just HAVE to see this movie for yourself, check it out for free at your local library and even then, you'll still feel cheated.
Wolf Creek (2005)
Thick accents and hand held camera
Holy crap! Who in the heck came up with this brilliant idea to film damn near the entire movie with a person suffering from cerebral palsy? This movie was truly painful to watch. Lots of gore for the horror genre but it takes a back seat to the eye crossing shaky camera and the thick intelligible dialect. Car trip turns into a palsy campaign. pshaw! This would have been tolerable if it was half way understandable. I have faith that the Aussies can and will do better next time. I'm thinking this would have been an awesome book. I am glad that I at least gave it a shot. Needless to say, waste of time, money and film.
Memoirs of a Geisha (2005)
Riveting, spellbinding and inspiring!
Being American, at first, I thought I wouldn't understand much of the film due to the poor advertisements. The commercials were short and although very beautiful the speaking parts were swift and almost intelligible. But, I was determined to see this movie if for nothing else, the amazingly fluid dances. However, I was pleasantly surprised that the dialog didn't hinder my ability to understand what was being said. I was expecting a "Cinderella" type story and have seen other comments also suggesting that as well and honestly, I didn't think that that description applied at all. I don't think the omission or replacement of some traditions hurt this movie at all, but I do suggest doing a simple search for the full details of Geisha. The personal triumph, exquisite beauty and of course the dance make this movie worth seeing over and over again.
