Big Bad Wolf (2006)
Gory and funny but the werewolf make up sucked
Great little horror flick with very gory death's and some laugh's along the way. By no means a cheap waste of time and in places rather good. The idea of a wise cracking werewolf was new but the biggest draw back of the film for me was the werewolf make up.It totally sucked. The whole face was like a stiff mask with only the mouth moving.Bit like trying to be scared of a fancy dress costume. Why do that????
Its not the best horror film in the world and by no means the worst.I have seen much much worse. The actings good, the actions good and the whole thing looks like a great production, not a home made gore flick.
The little bits of CGI were fun.
If you want a no brain, gore fest which is easy to watch and follow, this is the film for you.
The Last Legion (2007)
What a waste of talent
I watched The Last Legion with some hope, but not that much and was still disappointed. What starts as a huge CGI filled epic, goes into a weak, empty story with not the best acting, action and a terrible story.
The acting talents and chances of a good film as so badly wasted and in parts the film seems to not know what it wants to be.Action film, Epic historic tale, kids adventure and even comic farce, which was a huge mistake.
Its empty and totally soulless. The ending is so bad, so very very bad that Myself and a friend sat stunned.lol
Its such a great shame that the main star of ROME the TV series was anywhere near this film.Rome it totally superior in every way. If you want a well written, acted and totally realistic version of Rome, see ROME don't waste your time on this.
Grindhouse (2007)
Did everyone really like both films?????
Watched Grindhouse the other day and thought myself that QT film was not only too script driven but selfish, over indulgent and just outright boring in the end.Apart from the amazing crash and the latter chase, it was a girlie road movie.Insulting us with having not once, but twice list road movies of the past shows just what he thinks of the film going public.( Dhur was Vanishing Point really a road film????)
I think that RR out shone him a million times and really got into the vibe of the double bills B movie feel. QT has really had his time and its time to move on from the " look i can write a script with 2 people talking about nothing for half hour" Pulp Fiction was his high point and its been self indulgent ever since. Move over RR taken your crown.....for good.
Hostel (2005)
Written by a 13 year old, wanting to shock his Mum and dad
I had waited a long time to See Hostel and with all the underground hype in the UK was lead to think this was going to be a full on Horrorfest that would leave me shocked for days.....Oh dear.
Not only was the film, slow but had the script and dialogue of a homophobic schoolboy, who was interested in nothing but tits and drugs The ,so called,shock/horror scenes were not only short but totally ineffective. If you want good, psychological horror see Saw or saw 2,in fact see the remake of The hills Have eyes, which is a far superior film in every way, down to the effects and the acting. When I saw that at the cinema a lot of people,(mostly girls with boyfriends) left after the first attack scene in the motor-home.
In Hostel most were just bored and stayed.
One thing I did think was disturbing about the film was the huge amount of homophobia.I'm a very open minded person like that and understand if it is needed for a films story and is relevant but its just put into the film as anti gay crap.everyone who they don't like is a Fag or Faggot, anything they don't like is Gay,the main nasty it is implied is a closet homosexual. With all this homophobia flying about,it makes one think that Eli Rth just may be a closet homosexual himself.
In all a childish, ineffective and long winded attempt at a shock/horror.safe you time and money and see Saw or Seven or for a really good creep out the Exorcism of Emily Rose.
