Margin Call (2011)
10/10
A great movie!
1 March 2024
Margin call wastes no time getting going, and once it does, it never stops! A great story line, well casted with new up and comers, along with just as many of the all-time greats, It is a definite classic!! If you liked Wall Street, Arbitrage, A Perfect Murder, The Firm...this one is along those lines of the greats of movie history. It has all the elements of the financial industry.... deceit, greed, anger, hatred....and at the root of it all? Money! The entire cast is superb, the mood is perfect for the title, a feeling of impending doom! Give it a watch, and you will watch it again and again!

Salem's Lot (1979)
10/10
At the top of the Vampire movie mountain!
23 June 2023
A great, eerie, creepy, atmospheric, terrifying dark classic! With a smash hit all-star cast for the ages, and the overall setting as eerie as it gets, you cannot go wrong with Salem's Lot! Each of the characters are cast perfectly, and David Soul, who has starred in movies as well as having a hit song, is awesome again as a writer. Even the names of the characters add to the eeriness of the movie. One thing though, it is quite a noisy movie. With loud music hits, and an annoying barking dog, to name a couple. Really unnecessary, and at times, quite annoying. This movie is scary enough on its own without those elements. Still, when I begin my Halloween movie marathon, this one is at the top of the list!

Museum of Horrors (1973–1975)

A great horror series from the vault!
16 June 2023
This one was a classic!! After Saturday night wrestling, it was Museum of Horrors! A perfect for late night viewing series, it featured its own versions of Frankenstein vs. Dracula, the undead, etc., and an assortment of other creepy creatures that made for some scary Saturday nights! Equally as entertaining was the announcement of next week's feature film! I remember the opening theme, and a poem that was read... "Like one who walks down a lonely road...and walks in fear and dread, and having once turned 'round, walks on, and turns no more his head. For he knows, a frightful thing does close behind him tread."

Clown (2014)

A very scary clown!
15 April 2023
When I saw it was produced by Eli Roth, I knew I had to see it, and was glad I did! The storyline is original, and great! A good solid cast, and the fear grows at a good steady pace. The concept and FX created for this film did the trick, and I found it far more frightening than just about any other clown horror movie I have seen, and that says a lot! Clowns can be quite scary, which adds to the fear because they are supposed to be funny. This one is not over the top loud or gross, which can ruin a movie. To me, scary doesn't have to be loud and gross to be good... and Clown hits the mark without either. I like the brand of scary this one brings to the screen. Watch it and you'll see......this is one very scary clown!

Hands down, the greatest western of all time!
14 April 2023
Since childhood, this has been my favorite western movie, and it remains so today! As beautifully composed as the theme music, so many characters and situations are developed and maintained seamlessly throughout the film. There is never a dull moment, and some humor is also sprinkled in at times! Clint Eastwood, Lee Van Cleef and Eli Wallach form the most formidable trio in western movie history, and each plays their role to perfection! This movie has it all, even taking us through a battle of the Civil War. The cast, the music, the sets... all come together to put this one at the top of the western movie mountain!

A typical feel-good movie
11 April 2023
It was very disappointing. This movie could have been much better, and anyone who knows chess and its history (I do play competitively), knows why. Although a great possibility for a storyline, I am sure the producers among others, changed it to a more feel-good movie, and not altogether historically accurate. With a heavy hitting all-star cast, I expected much more from the lead role played by Max Pomeranc, who was portrayed to play a stoic, chess prodigy who keeps the same facial expression throughout the entire movie. With chess players being portrayed as eccentric, his character did stand out, but not in a good way. If you read the history of the real players/instructors portrayed in this film, they are far from the truth in this one. Is it a good movie to watch? Yes, it's a good natured, feel-good heartwarming movie, but to those of us who know the real story, it did not measure up to expectations, and among the multitude of films which are based upon real life characters and situations, that doesn't put this one in a small fraternity.

This one is creepy!
3 April 2023
One of my favorites of the Tales from the Darkside series! Eddie Bracken was the perfect choice for this creepy role of an undead grandpa. It gets right to it, with its own brand of humor and creepiness that builds as it goes on. Bracken's natural features were a perfect match for this role, and as he begins to deteriorate, even more so! The storyline is great, and with a young Christian Slater as the grandson, it is an enjoyable, and yes scary watch! It makes you wonder if something like this has really happened before. This one still gives me the creeps to this day, and I will watch it every time it shows! Get your popcorn, hot dogs and candy ready, but best eat the food first, and fast!

Not quite there, but close.
20 February 2023
As great as this one is, I had trouble getting through the back and forth bickering and fighting between all of the characters, it was just too much! How can a film have such an all-star cast, with no likeable characters lol? It does cross some sensitive lines, and issues, which I could have done without as well. I would have done this one much differently. Not sure what the producer had in mind, and this movie did receive critical acclaim, but for my money, it was not quite as great as it could have been. I do watch it on occasion, but always have to take a break from the overall negativity of it. Hey, it's hard to argue with its success, there is no denying that, but this one is just too gloomy, downtrodden, and miserable to enjoy. 6 stars for the all-star cast, that's as much as I could give it. This one makes "The War of the Roses" look like a happy ending lol!

The ultimate interview.
18 December 2022
I really enjoyed this movie! David Strathairn does a marvelous job as God, there could not have been a better actor to play this role as good as he did! Brenton Thwaites is brilliant, and the rest of the cast is good too. I have watched it many times, and each time I pick up on something new. It addresses some of the questions, issues and situations we all have wondered about and experienced in our lives. If any of us could interview God, what would we ask him? So many whys, and why nots, ifs ands, and so on. This movie puts us inside the mind of God, in its own way. It puts us in the mindset of what would we ask God in an interview. Many of Paul's (Brenton Thwaites) questions were some of the same many would ask. What questions would you ask God? A good movie, a thought-provoking story, thoughts that we all have wondered.

Boo! (II) (2018)

It had potential, but....
25 October 2022
In the beginning scenes, the music is one of the eeriest pieces I have heard in a scary movie! It leads you to believe you are in for a real shocker, but this one never quite gets there, I am sad to say. It had all the potential in the world, but it is riddled by an annoying cast, a storyline that never develops, and some parts that had no purpose whatsoever in a scary show. It does have its moments, but they are too few and far between to overcome the entire failure of it. The biggest part of the story is the ongoing tension among the family, and it goes on and on, and just destroys the movie. I gave it 3 stars for the eerie opening music, which is top notch, and listening to that alone, over and over, would scary enough, more so than this movie tried to be.

The first and only time we walked out on a movie!
28 September 2022
We were so disappointed in this one, we walked out on it! It had great creepiness potential, and if you looked at the advertisements for it, it appeared it was on its way to a classic! It wasn't even scary, creepy or good. The only thing that was okay was that the people under the stairs did look a bit creepy, but not enough to keep us around for the conclusion. Can't say much about it because it didn't give much to be interested in. The title is creepy, but that's about it. But the night was not a total loss; we enjoyed the popcorn, candy, pickles and drinks, and just getting out for a while. Looking back, a trip to the video store would have been a better option.

A creepy walk!
28 September 2022
I find myself one of the few who liked this one, but I loved it! Atmospheric, creepy, and scary, it did the trick for me among the newer horror films. I have always been a fan of possession and demons, and this one does it nicely. So many out there may think it lacks all the elements that make a good horror movie, but it has enough for those who appreciated the classics such as "Carnival of Souls." I don't need a whole lot of ground meat, ketchup & split pea soup for a horror movie. I saw this one on HBO and instantly liked it! A small cast, creepy eerie setting, and scary things walking around town, what more can you ask for?! Also, Clancy Brown is in it, so it's gotta be good! Give it a look but keep a look out for scary things walking up and down your street......YIKES!

Demon Wind (1990)
4/10
My lowest horror movie rating yet!
28 September 2022
When I first rented this on tape years ago, it appeared to have great potential! It never reaches that point and falls far short. Not sure where the story line was supposed to go, it's a crazy one! It makes no sense, and seldom tries to explain itself via continued watching. It does have a few scary scenes, but they are few and far between, and get pushed aside by the ridiculous story line, acting and FX that doesn't do the trick either. At times, one would think it is headed for a "Night of the Demons" Halloween smash hit, but, not even close. A guy gathers his friends for a trip in search of who knows what, gets them all slaughtered (and never shows one ounce of remorse or sorrow about it), and also drags his beautiful girlfriend along for the ride, (I kept wondering how she ended up with this guy anyway lol!). I kept watching it hoping to one day make sense of it, here I am in 2022, and still have not achieved that lol! Is it fun to watch? Yes, it is, and I keep it in my collection to remind me of the good ol' 80's. If I can squeeze it into my Halloween movie marathon, I will, but it's far down the list. Give it a look, just for the craziness of it!

Great potential, great disappointment!
23 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
One of the most disappointing endings I have seen! Just imagine if the story line had continued, and what we all thought had happened, did actually happen! I would have then given this one a 10 stars rating. John Goodman is great as always, Michael Parks one of the all-time greats, was great! Not sure why anyone would just stop what would have been a great conclusion, to finish with a really ridiculous one? Left me shaking my head in disappointment. Even the conclusion that was used, could have been better, as bad as it was. The movie is great up to a point, then, a big letdown. I saw it once......the end. :(

Eerie, creepy, scary, a classic!
27 July 2022
I first caught this one on a creepy Halloween night years ago, it showed as a double feature on channel 21 along with Reanimator! I watched it and it became one of my all-time favorites! With Wings Hauser and Bo Hopkins you can't go wrong! The setting is very eerie, creepy, and it has its share of scares, and frightening characters. It still ranks among the top of my Halloween movies, and I watch it year-round. Give it a look, and you will become a Mutant too!

As cool as it gets!
25 March 2022
I saw this when it 1st came out, and have loved it and watched it since! I like the black and white settings, the characters and atmosphere of each segment. Cool characters, settings, witty and intelligent humor, great atmosphere and music, and lots of coffee and cigarettes...what more do you need? Give it a watch, and you will enjoy it too, over and over!

The best of its kind!
18 January 2022
Alex Gibney composed a masterpiece here! This is how a documentary should be done. Just right amount of input from those who were directly involved in the situations, and it keeps it interesting throughout. From players to fans, to reporters, security guards, it covers it all in great fashion. It is my favorite sports documentary of all time! Sports is serious business, and one miscue can alter history, and lives! Enough said, watch it!

My favorite of all time!
17 January 2022
This one stands at the top of my all time favorite movies! Pre-80s, and it lit up the 80s and beyond, remaining my favorite to this day! I prefer the English-dubbed version, I guess because that is the one I saw first. The action, haircuts, Highway Patrolmen in leather suits and souped-up Interceptors and Pursuit hot rods, wild motorcycle scenes, what more can you ask for in an action film!

This video is a mind/eye opener! I've watched it time and again. The lesson that can be learned is to beware of whom you choose to "follow" and be "influenced" by online, especially when money is involved. A good video, give it a watch, and learn!

Almost great!
17 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This movie is a watcher, I have over 20 times! It's one of my favorites, and the actors were cast perfectly in their roles, except for Bill Fichtner. I never understood why he was cast to be so shy, softspoken and meek, not a character I'm used to seeing in him. He was good yes, but he kind of goes around as if he is about to fall apart. His wife asks him to get out of the house, and he just gracefully goes without so much as putting up an argument! It's your house too Bill! He was also one of the producers, and if I had been in the movie and produced it too, I would have written my character to have ended up marrying Jessica Macnamee and living happily ever after! Aside from that, it is a good movie, watch it once, and you will again, and again!
