Heavy Traffic (1973)
Inspiration for Homer Simpson?
Watch the movie and look at the Angelo "Angie" Corleone character (Michael Corleone's dad), watch his mannerisms and the artwork, and see that Matt Groening pretty much "created" Homer Simpson from this character. Since Heavy Traffic is relatively obscure, most people today will have no idea what it is, so Matt Groening is in the clear after stealing one of Ralph Bakshi's characters/drawings. After watching the movie and the character, tell me I'm wrong, I know I'm not. I'll look through some Groening interviews and see if I can find anything about his inspiration for Homer Simpson, but I don't think I will, and since Groening is filthy rich and a far-left tool he will never admit it.
Dokyumentaru (2016)
I would love to see...
...Shin'ya Arino on the show! Some of the comics have been average to poor in their comedy, and some aren't even comedians. Every time I start a new season of Documental I'm hoping to see Shin'ya Arino walk into the room, he's always made me laugh on GameCenter CX and I know he can handle pressure (just watch Gamecanter!), why not give him a shot?! Matsumoto san, please send an invitation to Shinya Arino, he will not disappoint!
Vikings (2013)
Started off great, but then...
... it got very stupid and unhistorical.
Seasons 1-3 were the best, following the actual history pretty well and having a good story.
But it seems like the last three seasons were written by little kids or mentally-ill people (or woke imbeciles, which is more likely).
If you've never read any of the Norse eddas, sagas, or books like the Heimskringla (The Lives of the Norse Kings), then you will probably like the series. But if you know anything about the actual historical figures who are represented in the series, just don't watch or you'll be angry at their treatment. It's like the writers had an agenda to rewrite the actual history of the Vikings, adding all kinds of lies and progressive BS (feminism, LGBT, and anti-caucasian and anti-male tripe). If you want to avoid all the woke garbage just stop after the third season ends, you will thank me.
I gave the series 3 stars, and was generous, because the first three seasons were good.
Frank of Ireland (2021)
Hardy Bucks ripoff.
If you want Irish humor, watch the Hardy Bucks, it's the best of the genre. Frank of Ireland is pretty much a rip off of Hardy Bucks - from the main character to the supporting cast, but HB is much funnier and original. Don't waste your time with this show, just watch the Hardy Bucks.
I gave Frank of Ireland an extra star because they copied Hardy Bucks, because "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery that mediocrity can pay to greatness." (Oscar Wilde)
Farscape (1999)
Good but ...
... they killed off solid characters and added stupid ones!
I enjoyed this series greatly until they added Chiana, killed off Zhaan, added Jool, and brought in the whole sappy, Crichton/Aeryn love story.
The Chiana character was thrown into the storyline seemingly as an afterthought (little backstory on her race, motivation, or raison d'etre - same with Jool) she just bounced around being annoying and adding nothing to the show, the same can be said about the Jool character, who was even more annoying, with her screaming and complaining. And what was most galling was that they killed off the more substantial, interesting characters, Zhaan and Crais, in favor of these dolts. The love story between Crichton and Aeryn took up so much time and just plodded along at a snail's pace, it was excruciating. Think about it, there was a whole universe to investigate and expound upon, but the show's creators thought a love story that had been done a thousand times before was more worthwhile! Think I'm wrong? Look at what the Star Trek, Star Wars, and even Battlestar Galactica franchises did with space exploration as their core plots!
This series was good but the creators went with stupid, threadbare story and character directions and torpedoed what could have been something great.
One more thing: before you write a review, get your ego in check and think about what you're going to say. When you say that a show is "intelligent," and the "best sci-fi ever," you sound like you're about 14 years-old. There are other science fiction series out there that are actually intelligently written and most are better than this one. Sorry to burst your bubble (not really).
Dracula (2020)
Started off so well.
Episodes 1 and 2 were brilliant, with the familiar Dracula story unfolding as he did his bloodthirsty vampire thing and prepared to continue doing so in the U. K. When he got to England the story was still going strong, with the Count absorbing the culture and learning what had happened during his century of sleep under the ocean. He gained his release, emailed Dr. Van Helsing his plans for acquiring top-notch primo blood, but then hooked up with a skanky bar-trash gold-digger! And the actress that was cast as the skank was just worthless; literally any decent female actress could have done a better job than the one they used. But it got even worse, the writing devolved terribly, like some college student who procrastinated the entire semester away and then threw together his term paper in one night!
My rating reflects the first two episodes being very good, and the last being just awful. Add to that the female love interest being miscast and terrible, and the writing falling off a cliff at the end, and you end up with this series.
Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (2017)
Terrible acting from the two leads
This movie would have been pretty good if not for the horrible acting from Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne, and their high-school romance is ham-fisted and stupid. They're probably the worst actors I've ever seen, and they drag down this movie like an anchor. Apart from the leads this movie was visually stunning and could have been something great.
An Omar Broadway Film (2008)
How the hell...
... did they get a camera in that type of unit?!?! I've been locked up in lesser security jails and we couldn't get away with a freaking lighter, let alone a video camera! We were regularly used as practice for the local SWAT team to practice on, so contraband of any kind was confiscated quick! It seems unreal that these cons had all the electronic devices they did in the film - it made me think that this film was/is fake. And if someone smuggled that camera in, on/in their person via a body cavity, DAMN!!! The guy could pass a coffee can! That's insane! The film itself wasn't much of a documentary - when you only focus on one side of an issue it is more like propaganda.
