Thirteen (2003)
Powerful Incursion into the Adolescent Mind
I really liked this film first of all because it deals with youth and it's always a very interesting subject. The acting is fantastic, I discovered Holly Hunter! Be careful, the way it is filmed can be confusing: especially at the beginning, the camera moves quickly. But it stabilizes and it is only to better reveal the intense relationship of the teenagers. We follow the evolution of these young people adrift, the influence of one on the other, with a lot of humanity. We feel a lot of emotions and that's what I liked most. I was afraid of being disappointed but, really, it was a very pleasant surprise. Very human, very engaging. Notice to amateurs.
Utopia (1983)
Mesmerizing cold tale
I was very impressed by this film. I saw it around 2000, on French television (when this was still possible !!), and 20 years later I looked for it everywhere without success until the day when finally, an amateur posted it on YT, in excellent quality. It is a very cold film, which tells of the hell experienced by professionals in the world of prostitution in Berlin, in a brothel. Acting is impressive, coldness and slow violence.. The colors of the film are striking, the story progresses slowly to reveal the wounds of the women. For me it is an undeniable masterpiece. This film deserves a dvd release.
Minari (2020)
Not bad but lacks...
I am a fan of Korean cinema, but I must say that this film has nothing of the usual abyssal cutting edge of Korean films, displaying the usual Korean scar. It's the story of Koreans in America and suddenly I have the impression that from this postulate, everything becomes consensual. Note, this is not a bad movie. The actors are very good (Koreans.. special mention to the grandiose, famous Youn Yoo Juhn), the cinematography is impeccable, but the screenplay does away with the expectation of character depth. Children seem bland to me.. and yet it's a touching, human story. In summary, it's far too consensual for me. I almost got bored.. let's say I was in a hurry to get it over with. I like being shaken up in a thrill ride and it really stayed on the surface.. too bad.
Blackbird (2019)
I will need time to recover the emtional blast
I have loved this film. I don't see anything negatie to say about it. It's powerfully emotional. It deals with a subject that I have rarely seen in cinema, and a very contemporary topic.. ! All actors are amazing. The plot is simple yet all the human relationships.. all the human feelings pop out. Delivering a strong message. Sarandon can just roll her eyes, pull a certain face and I'm in tears.
