Andor (2022)
Best piece of Star Wars in a long time
I had very low expectations for Andor. A spin off show of a mediocre prequel movie did not seem promising. Even less so when Disney's other 2022 releases left a lot to be desired... very glad to say that I could not have been more wrong!
Andor does what arguably hasn't been done in a very long time - something different. At times it did not even feel like Star Wars, in the best way possible. The story, the acting, the characters, the costuming, the set, everything was so incredibly well done and refreshing. Personally I think it's the best piece of Star Wars since the mandalorian, if not better.
The only cons I can give the show is that the first few episodes are quite slow and at times boring. But it catches up quickly!
One of Us Is Lying (2021)
Don't judge a book by its Netflix show
I read the book, it was great! This was not. It definitely had the potential to be though. If it hadn't been so dragged out and boring, without all of the weird changes added and good things taken out. It should have been a 4 episode miniseries, not 8. I understand the changed ending for a season 2 but I just did not like it. Everything was so "meh".
Arcane: League of Legends (2021)
So so so good
I can't believe it. Something actually took out avatar the last airbender as my number one show. It held the title for yeeeears. This is ridiculously good!!!!
The Book of Boba Fett (2021)
The book of Boba Fett and the mandalorian
...is what this show should have been called. Personally i probably would've given this a higher rating if it was. But this is Boba's show, and it feels like he's barely in it. Although I really liked the episodes with the mandalorian, especially Nr 5 (which Boba is not even in at all) he should not have had that much screen time in a show called "the book of boba fett". Boba's parts were also honestly kind of boring, not a lot of interesting things going on, while the mandalorian's were mostly great. It just feels unfair. Other than that I really liked the acting, cgi and costuming.
Smallfoot (2018)
Amazing message but predictable story
I was taken by surprise at how great the messages of the movie was. Ask questions, don't believe everything you're told, just because it's "in stone" doesn't mean it's true, views are not everything, etc.
The soundtrack was really nice. Zenday's song "wonderful life" was good but I found myself enjoying "let it lie" even more. It fitted in perfectly with telling the story of the evil smallfoot, a very well-worded rap.
I was pleasantly surprised that the plot was not the same garbage as the other film they recently made; "storks." It has originality although similar to monsters inc. Great voice acting. Although I was never bored while watching I had already predicted the story within the first five minutes. It takes no genius to understand that the stones will be disproven, the humans will be befriended, etc.
Nonetheless, it was a fun experience. It is after all targeted towards children (therefore i love the messages of this movie even more!) A very good family movie.
Alita: Battle Angel (2019)
Never a boring minute
I've always liked James Cameron and his work and sci-fi has always been my favorite genre, so I was very hopeful for this movie. Safe to say I was not disappointed. It brings amazing cgi and is a hell of a ride. There's always something happening on the screen and I was never bored one second of the 2 and a half hour runtime. It has some flaws here and there but overall a great and very exciting experience. This is how you make mangas into blockbusters, listen up ghost in the shell.
Secret Obsession (2019)
Was intrigued but left disappointed
I was intrigued to watch because of Brenda song whom I used to watch on the Zack and Cody shows when I was younger. She wasn't bad but she certainly wasn't great. No one in this movie was. I didn't really buy it, didn't get "the feels" from anyone in this movie. Mediocre at best. Terrible script and an unbelievably bad and predictive plot. Russel buries the body right in front of the house? The security footage just happens to directly open up to the white truck? Just bad. That's 1 hour and 37 minutes I'll never get back.
