The face of the Earth
A physical and interior journey through the stories juxtaposed to the writing and making of latest album of Vinicio Capossela, one of the cleverest and most eccentric musician in Italy.
Vinicio's voice lead us into this on-the-road film, from Italy passing through Calexico's recording studio in Tucson, discovering disappeared seasons, intangible instruments, imaginary and daily characters, life stories evoking charm and pages which become flesh-and-bone songs, fortuitous and fatal encounters, mirrored loneliness, American rodeo Side Shows.
Stories and life move about and emerge on the surface of the land just like on that of the I-narrator, disfiguring features and forever interweaving them with those of the characters.
"La faccia della Terra"(The face of the Earth) is an unseen cross section of Capossela's artistic universe, not only as cinematic narration but also as a spying eye witnessing -- almost in the first person -- into the creative process lurking in each story and each song.
Transforming what was initially supposed to be a simple backstage footage, Firriolo blends the raw material beneath the album, crossing different languages like, reading, video poetry and music clip.
Reality, fiction and surreal are alternated in this weird "film-story", in a bold attempt to subvert the classic "behind the scenes" genre.....broadcast on TV motels in the meantime...
