Old Tar River
A grand example of Mr. Bates banjo playing ability.
Take a journey back through time to hear a classic, and forgotten American song. As the 8th Connecticut sits by the fireside at Camp Buckingham in Hartford Connecticut over 160 years ago, a banjo tune starts to waft through the air - cutting through the sounds of a Chuck-a-luck game, and the passing horse-drawn wagon.
Old Tar River is the name of the song. Written by Daniel Decatur Emett of Dixie fame, it is here performed on an authentic and handmade 19th century Tackhead banjo, by Jacob Bates.
