In most cases, ignoring haters is often the best way to deal with them, as engaging in any sort of dispute ends up feeding the trolls. But Star Trek icon Michael Dorn had a unique approach when it came to dealing with two haters at a convention.
Known for playing Worf in the Star Trek franchise, the actor is notable for making the most number of appearances throughout the IP’s decades-long history than any other actors. But despite being one of the most beloved characters from the franchise, like any other thing in media, Worf isn’t immune to haters, and Dorn once had the incredible opportunity to scare two of them.

When it comes to the race to win an Emmy, there will be a collective buzz around the award’s 60+ categories until Sept. 15 when we find out who gets the gold.
Arguably one of the most highly competitive awards doesn’t happen at the main event but the weekend before at the Creative Arts ceremony. That’s when the winners in the four guest performer categories (which include guest actor and actress in both comedy and drama genres) are awarded for a one-time or re-curring role. (Think Jamie Lee Curtis’ two-episode performance on FX’s “The Bear” — a likely candidate.)
In looking back at early precursors, this award has quite a checkered past with numerous category name changes and head-scratching nominee groupings over the years. For example, in 1977, the bracket was called outstanding single appearance in a comedy or drama series. There was no separation by genre, so nominees included...

Alyssa Farah Griffin decided to share a very personal anecdote on Thursday’s edition of The View. During the first “Hot Topics” segment, cohosts Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines, and Griffin talked about Republican senators’ decision to block a Democrat-led bill that would’ve federally protected access to contraceptives. While the others discussed the legitimate concerns Americans have over access to reproductive options being hindered by the Supreme Court overturning Roe V. Wade, Griffin decided to share her very intimate reason for believing birth control access is simply a matter of “basic health care.” “I will say this: On a personal note, I was on birth control years before I was sexually active, for heavy, painful menstrual cramps,” Griffin explained, adding that she even had a traumatic experience with her pain during her tenure as a Trump administration official. “I remember meeting in the Pentagon with pain...

The Oscar-winning star broke down in tears as she reunited with stars like Kathy Najimy, Wendy Makkena, and Sheryl Lee Ralph, as well as crew members from the 1993 comedy. A recreation of the “Joyful, Joyful” choir scene had everyone in their feelings.
Tanya Trotter took over the solo performance in Lauryn Hill’s absence. Goldberg appeared in her nun outfit, joining the choir. Ryan Toby, who played Ahmal in the film, performed with Goldberg’s daughter. The performers were joined by students from the Laguardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts.

The View celebrated Sister Act 2 turning 30 with a big reunion.
Whoopi Goldberg sat down with her former co-stars Kathy Najimy, Sheryl Lee Ralph and Wendy Makkena, as well as music supervisor Marc Shaiman and music producer Mervyn Warren to look back at the making of the hit musical.
Among the highlights, Ralph, who played the mother of Lauryn Hill’s character, reacted to her memorable quote from the film becoming a meme. Recently, Whoopi Goldberg brought up a sensitive subject for some of the ladies on The View.
Each woman is a mother, except for the youngest panel member, Alyssa Farah Griffin, and each has their own parenting style.
Sunny Hostin is going through a transition with her children, who are going off to college, and has been seeking advice from other mothers.
Kelly Ripa was an excellent example for Sunny during a visit to Live with Kelly and Mark since she and her husband, Mark Consuelos, have three children out of the house.
As Monsters and Critics reported, Kelly assured Sunny that the lonely feeling would last a week or two and subside.
Now, Sunny revealed a stance on parenting that has her feeling a bit attacked on The View after Whoopi brought up the subject of tracking kids at college.

Whoopi Goldberg celebrated the 30th anniversary of “Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit” by reuniting the movie’s cast on “The View” — and not just her adult co-stars like Kathy Najimy. Goldberg gathered many of the kid actors who made up the choir in the movie and recreated the scene in which her character, Sister Mary Clarence, conducts them in a soulful rendition of “Oh Happy Day.”
Lead vocalist Ryan Toby, who played the young Ahmal in the movie, returned to sing “Oh Happy Day” with Goldberg 30 years later. The co-stars also sang “Joyful, Joyful” from the film, with The War and Treaty singer Tanya Trotter taking over vocals from Lauryn Hill, who did not participate in the reunion. Hill’s role as the talented choir singer Rita Louise Watson served as a breakthrough for her. Goldberg broke down in tears after the “Joyful, Joyful” reunion performance.

In the "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" episode "As Astra per Aspera", Commander Chin-Riley (Rebecca Romijn) faces a court-martial for lying on her Starfleet Academy application. She claimed to be a human, but was, in fact, a genetically enhanced Illyrian. Thanks to the disastrous, long-ago Eugenics Wars, genetic tinkering is strictly verboten in the world of "Star Trek." As such, lying about your genes is a particularly grievous offense. Captain Pike (Anson Mount), wanting to help his first officer, seeks out the legal aid of Neera Ketoul (Yetide Badaki), an Illyrian defense lawyer who will be brave enough to stand up to Starfleet's prosecution. Ketoul was also a childhood friend of Chin-Riley, and they have some bad blood about the latter's need to hide here identity to join Starfleet.
Neera Ketoul is an interesting character for "Star Trek," as she has made it her job to make civil rights cases ... against the Federation.

With a new month comes many new choices for Netflix viewers, and three of the choices stand out. June looks excellent on Netflix.
There is something for everyone and every situation, including Detective Pikachu and The Lego Movie for kids, The Divergent Movie for sci-fi fans, and the Conjuring trilogy for horror fans.
Another good option is the Godzilla Minus One movie, which, as Monsters and Critics reported, just dropped on Netflix.
All those are good options, but three top picks should not be missed: one for drama fans, a throwback for sci-fi fans, and one of the best coming-of-age films ever made.
The first is a Spanish offering named Raising Voices. It is an all-too-familiar tale of sexual assault that immediately grips viewers. Raising Voices, Episode 1, is streaming on Netflix today and should not be missed.

The Tribeca Festival started in the shadow of Sept. 11, as founders Robert De Niro, his longtime collaborator Jane Rosenthal and real estate investor Craig Hatkoff (at the time married to Rosenthal) attempted to bring commerce and culture back to Lower Manhattan.
In the years since, it has exploded in popularity and importance, with major film premieres and fine discoveries playing every year — now with even more to see and experience.
“There’s always challenges,” Rosenthal said about putting on a festival of the size and complexity of Tribeca. “We were the first festival that came out of Covid. It was great. There’s always challenges, always challenges.”
This year Tribeca is embellished with something else – a complementary festival called De Niro Con, which celebrates the life and career of the Tribeca cofounder that coincides with his 80th birthday. There will be special screenings, conversations and live events.
“I am excited for De Niro Con.

Few big new studio wide releases, yes, but Viggo Mortensen’s latest is on 700 screens, plus limited openings for Chris Wilcha’s Flipside, Judd Apatow EP, and Spanish animated, Oscar-nominated Robot Dreams from Neon. Bleecker Street’s family drama Ezra and IFC Films’ arthouse slasher In A Violent Nature are technically wide but both well under 1,500 screens.
Viggo Mortensen directed, wrote and stars in Western The Dead Don’t Hurt presented by Shout! Studios on 730 screens. The story of star-crossed lovers on the western U.S. frontier in the 1860s sees Vivienne Le Coudy (Vicky Krieps), a fiercely independent woman, settle in Nevada with Danish immigrant Holger Olsen (Mortensen). But the outbreak of the Civil War separates them as Olsen goes to fight with the Union army, leaving Vivienne alone in a town full of corrupt officials. Premiered in Toronto, see Deadline review. It’s Mortensen’s second outing behind the camera since 2020’s Falling.

All six stars of The View hit the table for Friday’s very unique episode for one reason: “Don’t adjust your TV set. Yes, I’m here on a Friday because this is a very unique moment in history,” Whoopi Goldberg explained. “That’s why we’re all at the table.” Unlike most days, there wasn’t a varied list of “Hot Topics” for the team to discuss; the only thing to talk about was the conviction of Donald Trump on 34 felonies in New York Thursday. And, as expected, they each had a lot of feelings about the subject — with some being positively giddy and others finding it to be a “somber” development. “I’m gonna say something you’ve never heard me say before, but Donald John Trump is now a convicted felon,” Goldberg said to start things off with a nod to her reticence to say his name.

Tony Goldwyn has always been an impressive talent. As an actor, he brings honesty and heart to his work. The same is certainly true with his latest. Ezra not only features Mr. Goldwyn in a supporting role, he takes on the part of director. Ezra tells the story of divorced parents attempting to raise their their son who is on the autism spectrum. Bobby Cannavale and Rose Byrne are terrific as the parents, and William A. Fitzgerald is equally compelling as Ezra. The film also features Robert DeNiro, Vera Farmiga, Rainn Wilson, and Whoopi Goldberg.
We recently sat down to have a discussion with Tony Goldwyn about the new film. And yes, Mr. Goldwyn was as kind and professional as you can get. During our conversation, he opened up about taking on Tony Spiridakis’ wonderful script. The actor/director discussed casting both Bobby and Rose, as well as finding the...

“Do not adjust your TV set,” Whoopi Goldberg said at the start of today’s The View. “Yes, I’m here on a Friday because this is a very unique moment in history.”
Goldberg, who usually has Fridays off from the ABC daytime talk show, then offered up her own unique moment in history.
“I’m going to say something you’ve never heard me say before,” she said mock-solemnly, “but Donald John Trump is a convicted felon.”
For years, Goldberg has refused to say Trump’s name on the show, a running joke in which she refers to him only as You Know Who.
Watch some clips below.
But it was co-host Sunny Hostin, the show’s resident lawyer and legal expert, who drew the biggest gasps from the studio audience when she predicted a one-year prison sentence for Trump.

Friday’s broadcast of The View was supposed to be a pre-taped episode, but those plans changed Thursday afternoon when Donald Trump was found guilty of all 34 felony charges in his ongoing hush money trial — as if this show would pass up the chance to celebrate what Joy Behar is presumably lobbying to make a national holiday.

Plot: A combative stand-up comedian (Bobby Cannavale) in a messy custody battle kidnaps his autistic son to keep him from being heavily medicated and placed in a special school.
Review: Tony Goldwyn’s Ezra is a warm-hearted father-son tale that tries to depict the challenges of raising an autistic child in an authentic way. The film was written by Tony Spiridakis, who has an autistic son of his own, while William Fitzgerald, who plays the title role, is on the spectrum. It’s realistic with some terrific performances from the ensemble cast, including Bobby Cannavale, Rose Byrne, Goldwyn himself, and Robert DeNiro (in a meatier role than usual).
The film is a great showcase for Cannavale, who’s pretty convincing as a somewhat confrontational comic who mines his own fractured personal life for material. In it, his character, Max, is reeling from a bitter divorce from his wife, Jenna (Rose...

Let’s start here: watching Bobby Cannavale and Robert De Niro argue on a New York City street while cars angrily beep their horns is electric. Truly exhilarating to watch. Likewise, watching the great Rose Byrne manage multiple emotions on her face is tantamount to listening to Yo-Yo Ma play cello. Ezra, written by Tony Spiridakis and directed by Tony Goldwyn, tells the story of a separated couple’s attempt to raise their autistic son. Max (Cannavale) is a struggling stand-up comedian; his ex, Jenna (Rose Byrne), is trying to keep it all together and not doing well. Their son, Ezra (William A. Fitzgerald), is causing disturbances at his school. Soon he’s forced to go to a specialized school with other “special” kids. Max cannot allow this; neither can his temper. It’s all for Jenna and her lawyer boyfriend (Goldwyn) to do to keep Max from beating up the whole world.

First Lady Jill Biden swatted away suggestions that President Joe Biden is too old for the job, saying on ABC’s The View today that her husband, at 81, is “about the same age” as the assumed challenger Donald Trump, who turns 78 in two weeks.
“This election is not about age,” she said, adding, “This is about character.”
“You have to believe [Trump],” she continued, “when he uses words like ‘dictator,’ ‘bloodbath,’ ‘third term,’ ‘violence.’ We’ve seen it, so when he says these words believe him, don’t think this isn’t going to happen.”
Asked about polls that put Trump ahead of Biden, the First Lady said, “Those polls are going to turn, I’m confident of it, because as time goes on and people start to focus a little bit more about what’s at stake and start to become educated on the issues and the differences between the two men,...

May comes to a close with a quieter weekend full of odds and ends and nothing particularly wide in terms of studio releases. Read on for Gold Derby’s box office preview.
After a fairly disappointing Memorial Day weekend, the month ends with a number of moderately wide releases. Since most of these new films are smaller, few theater counts have been reported, making it tougher to determine how some of them might perform, though it’s likely that only one will be getting a wide enough release to potentially break into the Top 5. Otherwise, we’re looking at a repeat of the Top 4 with the slightest chance that “The Garfield Movie” might pass “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” with few of the new releases targeting family audiences.
The one movie that has the best chance at cracking the Top 5 would probably be Crunchyroll’s latest Anime feature “Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle,...

Whoopi Goldberg accepted her role in Tony Goldwyn’s Ezra without reading the script. The actors knew each other from co-starring in 1990’s Ghost.
“If he says he’s got something, I don’t care how other people respond to it, I’m there,” Goldberg said of Goldwyn during Tuesday’s episode of The View, where the actor appeared as a guest alongside Bobby Cannavale and Rose Byrne.
Goldberg played Oda Mae Brown, the medium who communicates with Patrick Swayze’s spirit, in Ghost (she won an Oscar for the role). Goldwyn was the antagonist, Carl Bruner, and Goldberg said this week he is a “wonderful partner.”
In Ezra, Goldberg plays the manager of Cannavale’s character, a stand-up comedian struggling to co-parent his autistic son. Byrne, Robert DeNiro, Rainn Wilson and others round out the cast. Goldwyn directed the movie, and also has a small part onscreen. The project...

Tony Goldwyn might be more known for his work as an actor, but he’s also prolific as a director, having helmed a few feature films and several TV episodes. Although his latest effort in the director’s chair, the family dramedy Ezra, does suffer from some of its more conventional and melodramatic elements, it’s successful enough in its approach to be a likable, if forgettable, crowd-pleaser.
The movie follows a comedian who sets out on a life-changing road trip with his autistic son after facing decisions that could change both of their futures forever. It doesn’t reinvent the road movie subgenre, but it sets out to deliver a heartwarming and funny family dramedy, and it mostly succeeds in doing so.

Sunny Hostin weighs in on former The View co-hosts who speak negatively about their experience on the show after they leave.
In a new interview, the former prosecutor shared her disappointment with former co-hosts who trash their time on the ABC morning show.
“I’m always surprised when people speak negatively about our show if I’m being honest,” Hostin told Us Weekly. “We’ve had 27 years, we’ve had, maybe 24 co-hosts, and you were part of a sisterhood, and it’s really special.”
Hostin said she still talks to Sherri Shepherd, Paula Faris, and Candace Cameron Bure, who recently appeared on the show and sent her wine from her vineyard.
“We are all close regardless of our personal views,” she added. “We leave all of that at the table. I’m always surprised when someone says, ‘I don’t like that person,’ because it’s never personal, and we go into it knowing that.

Over the last few years, there have been some major shifts in the way those on the autism spectrum are understood. Conditions like autism have been reframed as an asset rather than a disability, due largely to conversations happening in spaces like TikTok. There has even been a vernacular reconfiguration, with the terms neurotypical and neurodivergent coming into wider acceptance as the more inclusive and less historically loaded categorizations.
As with basically all discourse, these positive developments have occasionally fueled actions with bad intent—like neurotypical people self-diagnosing as neurodivergent, essentially for purposes of clout. Enter Tony Goldwyn’s Ezra, which sees itself as a kind of rebuke to films like Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close for at least nominally wrestling with the notion of whether we should raise children to be as normative as possible or fully embrace their divergences.

Steven Spielberg’s 1985 classic that took home 11 Oscar nominations is by no means a feat of mere auteurist filmmaking but one showing exceptional skill and brilliance. Behind the camera, there is none other than Spielberg, even though his inspiration might often come from borrowed sources. As such, the adaptation of Alice Walkerʼs Pulitzer Prize-winning 1982 novel, The Color Purple, couldnʼt have been in better hands than the surgically gifted ones of the venerated director.

Demi Moore says she’s intrigued by Channing Tatum’s plans to remake the 1990 Oscar-winning film, Ghost.

Moore spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the potential remake.

Travis Kelce is giving his thoughts on Harrison Butker’s controversial graduation speech.
The Kansas City Chiefs tight end addressed the criticism the Chiefs kicker has received for his speech in which he made remarks directed towards women, suggesting they should embrace being a “homemaker.” He also condemned abortion, euthanasia, IVF, surrogacy and the LGBTQ community.
On a new episode of his New Heights podcast, Kelce first described Butker as a “great person” and “great teammate.” He added, “He’s treated friends and family that I’ve introduced to him with nothing but respect and kindness. And that’s how he treats everyone.”
However, Kelce reiterated that “when it comes down to his views and what he said at the Benedictine College commencement speech, those are his.”
“I can’t say I agree with the majority of it or just about any of it outside of just him loving his family and his kids.
