The idyllic countryside in the South of France is all that the veteran Oscar-nominee John Malkovich needs to be content in life. But Hollywood has other plans for the eccentric star, especially when it comes to Sony, Marvel, and Spider-Man. The interlinked fate of these 3 problematic entities has not only become a troublesome hurdle for the studios but poses a great risk to the future of the IP.
However, with the arrival of billion-dollar contracts and deafening audience excitement, Sony and Marvel signed a treatise to secure and exploit Spider-Man to their mutual benefit. MCU’s Spider-Man trilogy, Sony’s rebooted Spider-Man universe with Venom, Morbius, and Madame Web, and its animated Spider-Verse trilogy are a product of this shared dream.

Bruce Timm’s Batman: The Animated Series, which kickstarted the DC Animated Universe (Dcau) is regarded as the best adaptation of the Caped Crusader by many. Besides the plot, one of the primary reasons for its popularity was the iconic voice castings. The late Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill as Batman and Joker have left an indelible mark on the viewers’ minds.
Kevin Conroy’s Batman and Mark Hamill’s Joker
While Conroy is often hailed as the best Batman ever, Mark Hamill’s performance is considered even more praiseworthy than the critically acclaimed live-action works. However, the Star Wars star was not the first choice to play a Dcau role. It was only for voice director Andrea Romano, that Hamill could give us the legendary Joker performance.

John Leguizamo is reflecting on the roles that got away.
In an interview with Business Insider, the actor was asked about movies he’s turned down that he now regrets. “Oh yeah, The Devil Wears Prada, the Stanley Tucci part [as Nigel],” Leguizamo revealed.
Other roles he regrets saying no to were parts in Mr. and Mrs. Smith and Happy Feet.
“I had my reasons,” said Leguizamo. “I mean, they’re stupid, but I had my reasons.”
When asked to elaborate further, he explained that he turned down the role of Brad Pitt’s character’s best friend, Eddie, in Mr. and Mrs. Smith because Pitt and Angelina Jolie were each getting $20 million while he would be paid on scale. “I felt dissed, and they probably weren’t dissing me, but I felt dissed,” he said.

Celebration of cinema has always been extended by the Oscars honoring the prowess of cinematic excellence with one of the most recognized accolades. Throughout the rich history of cinema, there have been several movies based on true events, that left a mark among moviegoers or in the pages of history.

Also, movies that are based on true events are another way of documenting the particular incident, albeit a portion of fictionalization may alter the accuracy, but for cinema’s sake, filmmakers enjoy the basic freedom to have their own touch to the narrative. Throughout history, movies like The Great Ziegfeld by Robert Z. Leonard, or it would be criminal not to mention David Lean’s Lawrence of Arabia, and several other movies have claimed the Best Picture Oscars. Here is a list of six movies that won an Oscar in the Best Picture category.

Sure, while actors can play any kind of role, the training necessary to play these characters is also a crucial aspect of the process, often reaching previously unheard-of levels. That being said, when Michael Keaton played Riggan Thomson in Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s Birdman (2014), he took on a new challenge in his already lucrative acting career.
Given that Keaton had starred in a superhero flick, Batman Returns, that came out in 1992, Birdman was undoubtedly an interesting one. It was shot by Oscar-winning cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki to give the impression that it is a single, uninterrupted 119-minute shot. In order to pull it off, the filmmakers combined roughly ten different takes with ingenious special effects.

The filming process was, of course, exhausting and exhilarating, pushing Keaton to his limits both physically and mentally.

Dozens of top Hollywood creatives and activists have signed an open letter in response to the shuttering of production company Participant — imploring the industry to continue to effect change through film and television as the defunct company once did.
George Clooney, Aflonso Cuarón, Ava DuVernay, Jane Fonda, Regina King, Viola Davis, #MeToo founder Tarana Burke, civil rights attorney Bryan Stevenson, Color of Change president Rashad Robinson and more are signators, in addition to groups like GLAAD and Human Rights Watch. The letter was coordinated by the National Domestic Workers Alliance (Ndwa), which collaborated with Participant and director Cuarón on a visibility campaign for his 2018 Oscar winner “Roma.”
“As we say goodbye to Participant, we must underscore that values-based storytelling is needed now more than ever,” the letter states. “There is a whole ecosystem of people, connected by the work of the last 20 years of Participant, ready to work with you.

Alejandro González Iñárritu's Oscar-winning film "Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)" was a pretty ballsy move to make in 2014. The film stars Michael Keaton as actor Riggan Thompson, a once-massive Hollywood action star who has aged out of action roles. Notably, Riggan starred in three crowd-pleasing superhero movies about Birdman, a Batman-like vigilante. Keaton, of course, played Batman in 1989, 1991, and 2023.
Riggan is set to star in a high-profile Broadway production, hoping to prove to himself and the world that he is a pliable and capable actor, not merely a nostalgia-laced superhero figure. There is a lot of dialogue in "Birdman" about how superhero movies are the antithesis of art and that superhero actors are aggressively robbed of their thespian instincts. Good actors, Riggan complains, are ripped from meaningful projects and thrust into commercial FX bonanzas where they are expected to do little beyond pose and wear silly costumes.

It was with great shock that the actor Chance Perdomo’s death was announced a few weeks ago. At the age of just 27, the British-American actor lost his life in a motorcycle crash. Known for his phenomenal performances as Ambrose Spellman in The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and as Andre Anderson in The Boys spin-off, the late actor was believed to be heading to Toronto for the first table read of Gen V season 2 when the accident happened.
Production was immediately halted as the creative team and cast took some time to process the tragedy and figure out how to handle it within the show.

Ya know that feeling when you watch something dumb, and even though you know it’s stupid, you can’t help but laugh and enjoy yourself? The 1980s are full of comedies like that. Yeah, we know they’re dumb and not especially clever, but whatever, man, every now and then, you’re in a bad mood, and you want to turn your brain off. That’s why they made seven Police Academy movies. No one thought they were good, but we watched them anyway because they were stupid in a pleasing way.

One of DC’s most ambitious projects was one of their worst box office failures. The Flash was an astounding failure despite its much-hyped status. The movie was clouded by the scandal of its lead, Ezra Miller, but its net profit suffered because of everything’s storyline. After a year, the movie emerged as the second most significant failure of 2023 and lost considerable money.

However, the movie’s public suffered after lead star Ezra Miller was arrested for heinous allegations. Still, die-hard fans of the franchise showed up, but it wasn’t enough. Batman Beyond remains one of the greatest versions of the Dark Knight, following Terry McGinnis in the city of Neo Gotham, as he is mentored by Bruce Wayne in a cyberpunk setting. The show was unceremoniously canceled, despite its great premise and ratings, in favor of Justice League Unlimited, which also ended the show officially in its episode Epilogue.

Bruce Timm, in conversation with Think McFly Think, revealed the original ending that the show was supposed to have, which has a rather Star Wars quality to it. The original ending would also have been a direct-to-video film, much like The Return of the Joker.

“Unfrosted,” the first movie directed by Jerry Seinfeld (who also stars in it), is an agreeably flaked-out piece of surrealist vaudeville. It’s a comedy about the creation of the Pop-Tart, back in 1963. That makes it sound like part of the new wave of mass-market product biopics — movies like “Flamin’ Hot” (about the creation of spicy Cheetos), “Blackberry” (about the invention of the smart phone), and the one I think of as the “Citizen Kane” of the genre, “The Founder,” with Michael Keaton as Ray Kroc, the man who changed the world by taking over and franchising McDonald’s. These films all speak to a time — ours — when consumer products haven’t just taken on a life of their own. They’ve become part of our identities.
“Unfrosted,” however, is not like those other films. While broadly based in reality, the entire movie is a put-on, a wackazoid tall tale, a...

The year 1989 saw Tim Burton joining the world of DC Comics with his movie Batman. Michael Keaton starred as the brooding vigilante opposite Jack Nicholson’s Joker. The movie also spawned a sequel titled Batman Returns in the year 1992.
Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne/Batman
The idea for the movie first came from the mind of Michael E. Ulsan, who purchased the film rights of Batman from DC Comics in 1979 along with his producing partner, Benjamin Melniker. He wanted to bring back the dark and serious Batman instead of the campy 1960 version from the Adam West-led television series. But it took him a long time to find a home for the Dark Knight before Tim Burton and Michael Keaton could give the audience a Batman like that of the 1989 movie.

Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster tournament is back. While studios during Covid wildly embraced the theatrical day-and-date model when cinemas were closed, they soon realized there’s nothing more profitable than a theatrical release and the downstreams that come with it. If anything, theatrical is the advertisement for a movie’s longevity in subsequent home entertainment windows. Entering the conversation in 2023 were the streamers, such as Apple, who have also realized the necessity of theatrical to eventize their movies. The financial data pulled together here for Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster Tournament is culled by seasoned and trusted sources.

The domestic box office at $2 billion currently this year is dragging 21% behind the same January-April spread last year, and when Universal’s Fall Guy commences the hot moviegoing season this Friday with a hopeful $35M, expect summer to drag some more.
That’s because the lack of product due to the actors’ strike has made a backloaded May through Labor Day frame in what will be lucky —lucky— to hit $3 billion. That’s a $1 billion less than last summer’s $4.09 billion per Comscore and -27% off. More bad news about summer: It’s not going to catch up the year any more against 2023.
Essentially, expect less and hope for more. Remember, no one saw Barbenheimer and Sound of Freedom coming last summer and that trio collectively minted $1.15 billion. If anything, summer 2024 is more about getting moviegoers back into the habit of moviegoing than breaking any records.

Tom Hanks is known for his good-guy characters in his films. Be it romantic comedies such as You’ve Got Mail and Sleepless in Seattle, or dramas such as Forrest Gump and Philadelphia, the actor always plays roles that represent the morally right side of humanity. With his penchant for such sweet roles, he has been nicknamed the Dad of Hollywood.
However, Hanks reportedly does not have the need to stick to such roles. He recently played Elvis Presley’s antagonistic manager Col. Tom Parker in Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis, which was different from his usual good-guy roles. He has also mentioned that he fought against decisions made by directors to portray him as a good guy, especially in a pivotal scene in his Oscar-winning film Forrest Gump.

Hulu’s acclaimed new limited series “We Were the Lucky Ones” is led by Logan Lerman. who give the best performance of his career. Adapted from Georgia Hunter‘s 2017 book of the same, the story follows the Kurcs, a Polish Jewish family torn apart by WWII. It’s a difficult watch but creator Erica Lipez has crafted a gripping, vital narrative with Lerman at the center of the show. He plays Addy Kurc, the middle child who pursues a career as a composer in post-war Paris. Critics agree, Lerman is a revelation in this role.
Proma Khosla (Indie Wire) stated: “As Addy, Lerman is siloed from the other siblings for almost the entire series, but never waivers in his portrayal of someone sustained by hope and eventually in the haze of grief.”

Even amidst the glitz and glamour of the silver screen, the names people have come to adore aren’t always as genuine as they seem. For actors like Emma Stone and Michael Keaton, adopting stage names was a strategic move, whether to avoid confusion or create a memorable persona. However, Emma Stone recently revealed a surprising truth. Despite the fame attached to her moniker, she’s grown tired of being referred to as “Emma.”

Emma Stone Is No Longer Fond of Her Stage Name!
Before Emma Stone dazzled audiences on the big screen, she faced the challenge of sharing a name with another star in the entertainment industry called Emily. Among the new productions on Broadway this spring is a revival of the classic musical “Cabaret,” starring Eddie Redmayne. In 2014 he starred as Stephen Hawking in director James Marsh‘s biopic “The Theory of Everything.” His performance won him an Oscar for Best Actor (making him the eighth youngest winner in that category at age 33), overcoming stiff competition from Michael Keaton, the star of the Best Picture winner of that year, “Birdman.” How did Redmayne pull through? Here are five reasons.
1. The industry felt he came into his own
Prior to “The Theory of Everything,” Redmayne was a rising star. In 2010 he won a Tony for his Broadway debut starring opposite Alfred Molina in John Logan‘s play “Red.” He went on to get more prominent film roles where critics, audiences and the industry started to take notice of him. Among them were Simon Curtis‘s 2011 Oscar-nominated biopic “My Week with Marilyn...

Back in 2023, Warner Bros. were gearing up for the release of one of the last movies to come out of the Dceu. The Flash, starring Ezra Miller in the lead, and directed by Andy Muschetti, had a lot hanging on its shoulders. The movie was supposed to be the vessel to reboot the Dceu to give way for James Gunn and Peter Safran’s Dcu.

Though fans weren’t sold on Ezra Miller’s involvement after their various scandals came to light, the reviews coming from the who’s who of Hollywood had them holding on to hope. From Tom Cruise to Stephen King, many celebrities came in defense of the movie, lauding it as one of the best superhero movies ever made. Unfortunately, the movie’s reception was not what anyone had hoped, and The Flash ended up being one ofe the worst features from Dceu.

In 1999, Tom Hanks starred in The Green Mile based on Stephen King’s novel of the same name. The narrative followed the journey of a death row prison guard during the Great Depression who witnesses supernatural events after the entry of a convict played by Michael Clarke Duncan.

The film also benefited from a disturbingly brilliant performance from Sam Rockwell who played the role of William ‘Wild Bill’ Wharton, one of the most difficult and uncontrollable prisoners in the facility. The Oscar winner’s unhinged portrayal of a challenging character was interestingly inspired from the iconic performance of Michael Keaton in Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice.

Apart from excellent performances by Tom Hanks and Michael Clarke Duncan in The Green Mile, Sam Rockwell who played William ‘Wild Bill’ Wharton in the film, was a standout among the ensemble.

From Adam West in the ’60s to Robert Pattinson in 2022, a plethora of iterations of Batman have been presented onscreen since the character’s inception. But while most of them are great in their own right, nobody quite embodied the spirit of the caped crusader like the late Kevin Conroy, who is still considered by many to be the definitive version of Batman.
However, Conroy wasn’t the initial choice to voice the character, and even when he was considered for the part, the actor was interested in voicing other characters, which ended up frustrating Andrea Romano.

The Bruce Timm and Alan Burnett-produced Dcau has had many shows and films that have attained the status of modern classics. Shows such as Batman: The Animated Series, Justice League, and Teen Titans have been classics in the animated TV realm for a generation while the films have constantly been well-received.
While Marvel achieved many milestones through their live-action MCU, they seem to be way behind their DC counterparts. Only a few shows with their most profitable IP such as X-Men and Spider-Man have fared well with audiences. Alan Burnett, who served as a co-producer and writer on many Dcau shows and films reportedly has the reason why.

Kevin Conroy became a sensation among superhero fans in no time after voicing Batman in Bruce Timm’s Batman: The Animated Series. The animated show gave us one of the best adaptations of the Caped Crusader to date. Kevin Conroy has worked with some of the most incredible voice actors because of his legendary work as Batman. The many villains he had to face, either minor or major, all impacted him in one way or another. The cast was a variety of enormous talent all mixed in one big familial project. Andrea Romano, the voice director of Batman: The Animated Series had a lot to say about the cast as well.

Although all three of the MCU Spider-Man movies have “home” in the title, Spidey didn’t feel like he really came home until the very end of Spider-Man: No Way Home. That’s when Peter Parker walked into a squalid New York City apartment, knit together a home-made suit, and remembered his late parent-figure’s words about power and responsibility. So why the heck is Marvel unsure about what to do next?

Frank Darabont's 1999 Oscar darling "The Green Mile," based on an inexplicably serialized novel by Stephen King, is set in 1935 Louisiana in the fictional Cold Mountain Penitentiary, specifically the prison's death row. The correctional officers are overseen by Paul Edgecomb (Tom Hanks) who struggles to retain his soul working such a dire job. The floor that leads to the prison's electric chair is painted green, earning it the titular nickname. Paul attempts to wrangle his officers' cruelty and retain what little hope he can, even after witnessing the state execute prisoner after prisoner. To make matters worse, he's suffering from a bladder infection.
The wildest prisoner on death row is William "Wild Bill" Wharton, played by the always amazing Sam Rockwell. Wharton was clearly mentally ill, and would frequently assault the officers, forcing him into a padded cell. He spat insults and racial epithets, flashing his yellowed teeth and horribly casual hate.

American filmmaking was irrevocably changed by Francis Ford Coppola, one of the most important auteurs to emerge from the New Hollywood movement. His creative approach to filmmaking, which he pioneered with iconic films like The Godfather and Apocalypse Now, had a profound impact on movie buffs. Not every flick that he added to his coveted filmography, though, was given the same level of recognition.
