The sci-fi genre has always been one of the most beloved among cinephiles as it gives us a new look at a particular technology or our world. There was a time when Max (formerly known as HBO Max) was the place for peak sci-fi shows but after taking off Westworld and Raised by Wolves from the service, and since then it has been lacking a bit regarding sci-fi shows. But still, we picked the seven best sci-fi shows that we could find on Max.

As decades pass, it’s become clear that Brandy and Monica’s 1998 stare-down, “The Boy Is Mine,” wasn’t just a ubiquitous song and video in its day. (It was Number One on the pop chart for an astounding 13 consecutive weeks.) Its legacy has extended way beyond that era. Contestants covered it on The Voice, Ariana Grande remade it on Eternal Sunshine, and the debate over whether the two singers in it were really in a feud or not is a movie waiting to be made.

"We need to end this." Quiver has revealed an official trailer for an action movie called Lights Out, the latest from filmmaker Christian Sesma reteaming with Dermot Mulroney & Scott Adkins after making Section 8 in 2022. This will be opening in both theaters and digital starting in February next month. A drifting ex-soldier turns underground fighter with the help of a just released ex-con, which ends up pitting them both against corrupt cops and hired killers gunning for them and all those they care about. Pretty much everyone is out to get them! The cast features Frank Grillo, Mekhi Phifer, Jaime King, with Dermot Mulroney and Scott Adkins, as well as Amaury Nolasco, Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone, Erica Peeples, Juju Chan Szeto, and Paul Sloan. This "action-packed thrill ride" actually looks solid, better than expected if I'm honest. A seriously intense throwback to the all-out, non-stop action the entire time, 90s heydays.

Nashawn Breedlove, the actor best known for battle-rapping Eminem in the 2002 film 8 Mile, died of acute intoxication from fentanyl, acetyl fentanyl, cocaine and ethanol, according to multiple media reports citing the autopsy report from the New Jersey State Medical Examiner’s office. His death is listed as accidental.
Breedlove died in his sleep September 24 at his home in New Jersey. He was 46.
Breedlove played Lotto, a member of Detroit rap group the Free World who squared off with Eminem in 8 Mile. In the scene, Lotto memorably insults Jimmy by comparing him to “that dude from Leave It to Beaver” during his freestyle.

When people think of Jim Gillespie’s I Know What You Did Last Summer, they usually consider it a solid slasher. It certainly had an engaging lead cast—Jennifer Love Hewitt, Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Ryan Phillippe—and a script from Scream creator himself, Kevin Williamson. It even spawned an Amazon Prime spinoff series and is being featured as part of a “High School Horror” category on the Criterion Channel.
But that’s not the film this article is about. This is about the 1998 sequel that has a less positive reputation: Danny Cannon’s I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, which brought back Hewitt and Prinze Jr., but not Gillespie and Williamson. A lot of people tend to think of it as a lesser follow-up that is best left forgotten.

Nashawn Breedlove, best known for battle-rapping Eminem in the 2002 film 8 Mile, has died. Bronx rapper Mickey Factz announced Breedlove’s death on Instagram. Breedlove died in his sleep Sunday at his home in New Jersey, a family member tells TMZ. A cause of death is not known. He was 46.
Breedlove played Lotto, a rapper who squared off with Eminem in 8 Mile.
“Rip to one of the few emcee’s to beat Eminem… Lotto from 8 Mile. You will be missed for your tenacity and aggressiveness,” Mickey Factz wrote.
Directed by Curtis Hanson, 8 Mile starred Eminem in a story loosely based on his life and rise to stardom. Every Oscar season brings a perfect blend of unexpected movies joining into the race, films falling out and lots of other last-minute decisions. Our 2024 Oscars predictions center launched in early July with the eight top categories. Since then, we’ve received alerts and notices that 13 movies will be eligible instead for 2024 (and the 2025 Academy Awards competition).
More changes will certainly be made in the upcoming months with news from festivals, premieres, red carpet events and critical response. But for now, here are the 13 films that were initially available for 2024 prediction but have been removed. Keep in mind that the reasons for changes could be more editing/technical work needs to be done on these movies, quality level is low, getting away from the strikes timeframce, and/or holding to have more product in 2024 since production has been slowed down.
Also, any film listed below could be reconsidered and shifted back...

Because of her personal experience as a survivor of rape, Union says she knew she was fit for the role.
