Based on a 1989 film of the same name by Rowdy Herrington, the Prime Video film follows the story of a former UFC fighter Dalton, who is hired by the owner of a Florida Keys roadhouse to protect it from some goons. Directed by Doug Liman, Road House stars Gyllenhaal in the lead role with Conor McGregor, Daniela Melchior, Billy Magnussen, Lukas Gage, Hannah Love Lanier, and Jessica Williams starring in supporting roles. Finally, Beau comes to the fore.
Beau Finado, the lab's older yet new criminologist, was in the spotlight on CSI: Vegas Season 2 Episode 11.
Like Chris Park on CSI: Vegas Season 2 Episode 10, Beau learned things about himself that he hadn't considered when he switched to becoming a CSI.
Since his debut on CSI: Vegas Season 2 Episode 1, it was evident that Beau wasn't your average newbie in the crime lab.
He explained that he had had an epiphany during the pandemic and wanted to contribute more to society than better cleaning agents working for a chemical company.
That was also the episode when lab legend Catherine Willows returned to the fold. So the mystery of Beau was shelved as he faded into the background.
He was content to collect and analyze samples while attempting to learn his new job, taking big swings and missing as often as he connected. Beau was that...

Spend enough time charting the corners of any subgenre and you’ll quickly discover that not all entries are created equal. Due to the sexually charged nature of Erotic Thrillers, a common mistake that Hollywood suits make is believing that so long as there’s an adequate amount of sex and skin, the mechanics of the plot and the characters don’t matter.
What’s wild about Richard Rush’s 1994 film Color of Night is that it both does and does not fall into this trap. There is sex, yes, and it is ridiculous, but the carnal relations are condensed into a single part of the film, leaving long stretches of the thriller without its accompanying eroticism. And while there are a few murders, the thrills are also spread out and tend to be fleeting.
Which begs the question: without the sex and without the thrills, what becomes of an Erotic Thriller?...

It’s amazing how a talented individual like Kathleen Wilhoite can escape the notice of so many people apart from one role she had in Road House back in 1989, but when one broadens their view they can see that plenty of people know who she is. The difference here is that as a supporting actress, Kathleen is someone that people don’t look too closely at unless she happens to be in the shot at that particular moment. Otherwise, it’s likely that people do forget that she’s there sometimes, at least until she comes around again, since then she has the

For this week’s home media offerings, we have only a few titles on tap for genre fans, as there are only five different titles making their way home on Tuesday. Arrow Video is showing some love to the underappreciated Dream Demon with their new Blu, and Scream Factory is resurrecting The Spider (1958) as well. If you’re into classic horror in three dimensions, you’ll definitely want to pick up the 3D Blu for House of Wax (1953) and two indie horror flicks are arriving on DVD this week as well: Wood Witch and The Haunted.

A young bride-to-be s anxieties over her upcoming wedding take on a horrifying, demonic form in this underseen 1988 rubber reality shocker from director/co-writer Harley Cokeliss (Black Moon Rising), starring Timothy Spall and Jemma Redgrave.
As her marriage to decorated war hero Oliver draws near, well-heeled Diana moves into her sprawling new London home where she starts to experience strange and terrifying nightmares. But are these blood-curdling night terrors merely the symptom of an unsettled mind, or the sign of something far sinister at work? Hounded by a pair of sleazy journalists (Timothy Spall and Jimmy Nail), Diana soon crosses paths with American tourist Jenny, who appears to have a strange connection to the foreboding house and its sinister past.

This week, Scream Factory gave all those Kevin Tenney fans out there what they’ve been waiting for by the way of stellar presentations of two of his beloved cult classics on Blu-ray: Witchboard and Night of the Demons. Once again, Scream Factory did a wonderful job of shining the spotlight on two more great horror films that many of us grew up enjoying.
Review: Witchboard Blu-ray
Witchboard, a movie I last saw back in the 90’s when it was still only available on VHS, isn’t by any means the scariest work from Tenney’s career, but there’s a lot to admire about his oddball supernatural story where a super-sexy Tawny Kitaen gets a little too handsy with her friend’s Ouija board.
The story begins when Brandon Sinclair (Stephen Nichols) trots out his trusty ol’ Ouija (pronounced wee-jaa as Brandon so fondly likes to correct people) board...

I think everyone remembers where they were August 31st, 2003 when they heard that Charles Bronson had died. I was visiting my brother in Atlanta when my nephew knocked on my door and informed me that CNN had announced his death. I collapsed into a sobbing heap. Bronson was my hero, my muse, my role model. Hollywood’s brightest star would shine no more. It’s hard to believe he’s been gone ten years.
Charles Bronson was the unlikeliest of movie stars. Of all the leading men in the history of Hollywood, Charles Bronson had the least range as an actor. He rarely emoted or even changed his expression, and when he did speak, his voice was a reedy whisper. But Charles Bronson could coast on presence, charisma, and silent brooding menace like no one’s business and he wound up the world’s most bankable movie star throughout most of the 1970’s.

Lachlan (Robert Carlyle) is a former Britpop guitarist who has retired to a quiet existence in a quaint agricultural town somewhere in the vicinity of Los Angeles. A far cry from the glamorous star he once was, Lachlan toils away on an organic farm and sells produce at the Silver Lake farmers’ market; then, by night, he records a podcast that recounts the deaths of great musicians. It is a very solitary life that Lachlan leads, drowning his sorrows in whiskey while wasting away in a tiny, nondescript apartment. Beau (Alexia Rasmussen) is an amateur chef who meets Lachlan while shopping at the farmers' market. Her boyfriend Paul (Danny Masterson) is a Britpop DJ and one of Lachlan's biggest fans. A man who’s down on his luck looks for redemption when a time of need arises in his life – will a new love interest save him, or will the gained love of his estranged daughter do the trick? Sounds like The Wrestler, right? We can all dream, but this scenario also describes the plot of Marshall Lewy’s California Solo, in which Robert Carlyle is the man down on this luck – a washed up rocker facing possible deportation back to the UK. While Carlyle is effective in the lead, unlike The Wrestler, this overly derivative film never quite makes its protagonist likeable enough to root for. The film is also in desperate need of some levity to cut through its wholly depressing atmosphere. Carlyle’s not-quite-likable musician is Lachlan, a Scot who is faced with deportation after many years in the States when he is charged with a DUI. Lachlan...

California Dreamin’: Lewy Taps Carlyle for Understated Character Study
For his sophomore feature, director Marshall Lewy brings Robert Carlyle back to the big screen for his best film role in years with California Solo, a compelling character study goaded along as an immigration tale. An aging British rock star from the early 90s, with a distant child and a predilection for alcohol, recalls elements of other recent releases this year like Flight or This Must Be the Place even, and though it’s a slight, minimal take on themes explored by many far wiser than he, Lewy manages to make a melancholy portrait of a man forced to face significant demons from his past, imbued by the simple, sad, solo that is Carlyle’s affecting performance.

The drama starring Robert Carlyle opens on November 15th, with other cast names like Alexia Rasmussen, Kathleen Wilhoite, A Martinez, Michael Des Barres and Danny Masterson in the mix. Helmer Lewy also scripts the film seen at this year's Sundance Film Festival from Cherry Sky Films in association with Syncopated Films. Lachlan MacAldonich (Carlyle) is former Britpop rocker who has settled into a comfortably numb existence in farm country just outside Los Angeles. By day, he works on an organic farm and travels regularly to the city’s farmers’ markets to sell produce. By night, he retreats to his crummy apartment to record "Flame-Outs," his podcast that recounts the tragic deaths of great musicians. Holding himself responsible for his band-mate brother’s untimely death, Lachlan MacAldonich (Robert Carlyle) hasn’t been back to Britain since for fear of finally facing his friends and family. Lachlan’s life in California – split between his work as a farmhand and a podcast he runs commemorating fallen stars – is put on the line, however, when a DUI conviction puts him on the wrong side of the country’s immigration laws.
Forced to re-evaluate his life there, he embarks on a friendship with a loyal customer (Alexia Rasmussen), seeks assistance from one of his old band’s managers and contacts his ex-wife (Kathleen Wilhoite) in an attempt to reconnect with his daughter (Savannah Lathem). The question is: are his efforts sincere, or is he just looking for a way to overturn the charge?

Just about every film at Sundance is a world premiere. So why is there a "Premieres" section, and how is it different than the Competition or the Spotlight or the New Frontiers or the Next or...okay, I think that's all of them. Sundance describes Premieres as "a showcase of some of the most highly anticipated dramatic films of the coming year from new and established directors" and Documentary Premieres as "about big subjects or by master filmmakers that showcase the power of the form."
Basically, what it really means is here's where you find the attention-grabbers at Sundance. These are the big honking movies, the movies featuring Hollywood directors and talent coming down from their Valhalla of craft services and video village to get their hands dirty with the independents. These are the movies that have the biggest red carpets and the majority of the press coverage (see this post).

The Sundance Film Festival (apart from Venice) remains the only major film festival that we have not yet had a chance to fully cover. Hopefully 2012 will change that situation. It is one of our goals for next year and so you should be seeing a lot of Sundance posts for the next two or so months.
Sundance has just announced their Feature and Documentary Premieres for next months line-up and it of course includes notable stand-outs including Spike Lee‘s latest Red Hook Summer, Stephen Frears‘ Lay the Favourite, Josh Radnor‘s sophomore effort, Liberal Arts with Elizabeth Olson and Joe Berlinger‘s latest documentary on Paul Simon. In other words, if you are lucky enough to attend the festival, now is the time to get even more excited.

As potentially exciting as the in competition [1] and out of competition [2] films that will play the 2012 Sundance Film Festival are, the fact is most people haven't heard of them yet. Sundance will have some heavyweight auteurs in the shape of Spike Lee, Rodrigo Cortés, James Marsh and Stephen Frears for the Premieres Section. Among the 15 selected titles, worth highlighting are Leslye Headland’s debut, "Bachelorette" which stars Kirsten Dunst, we’ve got Julie Delpy’s 2 Days in New York and a Blacklist favorite in Celeste and Jesse Forever. Count on Lee’s Red Hook Summer, Cortés’ Red Lights, Marsh’s Shadow Dancer and Frears’ Lay the Favorite to garner the most buzz. Though Sundance tends to be stereotyped as the place for heavy, dour stories of shattered lives, it’s actually a great place for comedies. Think Napoleon Dynamite, Little Miss Sunshine, The Kids Are All Right, and last year ‘s Our Idiot Brother and Cedar Rapids.
This year the non-competition premieres section is heavy with comedies, most of them fueled by women, among them Kirsten Dunst, Rashida Jones, Julie Delpy, Rebecca Hall, Ari Graynor and Parker Posey.
“There are lots of big female-driven comedies of different sorts. Everything from Julie Delpy’s 2 Days in New York, to [Dunst’s] Bachelorette and [Graynor’s] For a Good Time Call,...

Twin Peaks alumni Kimmy Robertson, Charlotte Stewart and Kathleen Wilhoite were among the celebrities who celebrated the 20th anniversary of the weird and wonderful TV drama at the recent Twin Peaks Festival.
The trio returned to North Bend and Snoqualmie in Washington, where the exteriors for the show were shot for the festivities earlier this month (06-08Aug10).
Fans of the show were treated to a screening of director and co-creator David Lynch's own 35mm copy of Twin Peaks' pilot episode at the nearby Seattle Art Museum, as well as tours, contests and meet-and-greets with cast members.

Charles Bronson was the unlikeliest of movie stars. Of all the leading men in the history of Hollywood, Charles Bronson had the least range as an actor. He rarely emoted or even changed his expression, and when he did speak, his voice was a reedy whisper. But Charles Bronson could coast on presence, charisma, and silent brooding menace like no one.s business and he wound up the world’s most bankable movie star throughout most of the 1970’s. Bronson did not rise quickly in the Hollywood ranks. His film debut was in 1951 and he spent the next two decades as a solid character actor with a rugged face, muscular physique and everyman ethnicity that kept him busy in supporting roles as indians, convicts, cowboys, boxers, and gangsters. It wasn’t until he was in his late 40’s, after the international success of Once Upon A Time In The West...

MONTREAL -- The second installment of this collection of short, erotic films by notable directors is a notable improvement on the first, although it still falls short of the quality needed to provide a viable theatrical release. Included are works by Susan Seidelman, Bob Rafelson and Indian director Mani Kaul.
Seidelman's entry, "The Dutch Master", is a frothy but derivative tale in which Teresa (Mira Sorvino), a dental hygienist from Brooklyn, becomes fascinated with a Dutch painting at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, much to the consternation of her co-workers (Aida Turturro and Sharon Angela). Teresa is due to get married soon to her hunky cop fiance, but she is much more interested in the young man depicted in the painting. She soon learns that she can enter the painting at will and more closely observe the participants in action.
This is by now familiar stuff, but what distinguishes it are the comic performances, the witty dialogue and the breeziness with which Seidelman shoots her tale.
Rafelson's "Wet" is one of the less fanciful films in the series, but probably is the most fun. It depicts the efforts of Bruce (Arliss Howard), a bathroom fixtures salesman, to make a big sale to a beautiful young woman (Cynda Williams, of "One False Move"). It seems she'd like to purchase a deluxe bathtub, but she really can't commit before trying it out herself. In the store. And preferably in the company of another person, just to see if it'll accommodate two people. Bruce, played with just the right amount of comic, fumbling eagerness and trepidation by Howard, keeps matching her requests step by step until both are happily splashing around in the tub.
Rafelson's playful script and direction results in a work that is genuinely sexy and even quite suspenseful as we never know exactly what the woman, deliciously played by Williams, is up to. Of all the films, this one was probably the audience favorite.
Which is more than can be said for Kaul's utterly out-of-place "The Cloud Door", an incomprehensible and boring bit of avant-garde nonsense involving an Indian princess and a talking parrot that had the audience fleeing in droves.
