Gerard Butler and Den of Thieves director Christian Gudegast could head to the Big Apple as Butler is in talks to join the filmmaker for the comedic action-thriller Empire State. The upcoming project finds Butler and Gudegast re-teaming after joining forces for 2018’s Den of Thieves, Plane, and London Has Fallen.
According to Deadline‘s exclusive report, Empire State focuses on what happens when “the Empire State Building is attacked by a military contractor hellbent on revenge. Navy Seal turned NY firefighter Rhett (Butler) and NYPD Tactical officer Dani (yet to be cast) must put aside their relationship troubles as they work to rescue hostages and save the famous landmark.”
S. Craig Zahler of Bone Tomahawk fame co-wrote the script with Brian Tucker (Secret Invasion).

Intro: It’s a story we’ve all heard before. A group of friends stray off the beaten path and end up having to fight for their lives. This has served as the set-up for many classic horror films and thrillers. Back in the early ‘90s, director Stephen Hopkins used it as the set-up for an action movie that has an awesome cast. Emilio Estevez, Cuba Gooding Jr., Jeremy Piven, and Stephen Dorff play the friends fighting to survive. Denis Leary is the leader of the criminal gang out for their blood. Unfortunately, not a lot of people went to see the movie when it was released… but they did make the soundtrack a hit. The movie is called Judgment Night, and it’s time for it to be Revisited.
Set-up: Judgment Night started out as a spec script written by Kevin Jarre, whose other credits include Rambo: First Blood Part 2,...

While Joe Biden and Donald Trump have kept their in-person campaigning to a minimum so far this election cycle, third-party candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has done everything he can do steal the spotlight, holding event after event with celebrity supporters. Now he can add another to the roster: actor Kevin Spacey.
Spacey, who faced more than a dozen accusations of sexual misconduct or assault since the #MeToo movement gripped the culture in 2017, appeared to indicate in a tweet on Monday that Kennedy had been there for him at his lowest.

Primetime Emmy Award and Golden Globe winner Jeremy Piven has been given the lead role, alongside Tricia Helfer, SAG Award Nominee Ryan Kwanten and Nick Wechsler. Together, they’ll be playing US soldiers in 1968 who have been sent to a remote region of Vietnam. All they know is a Green Beret platoon has gone missing in the area, and they’ve been sent to investigate and possibly retrieve them. What they don’t expect, but who possibly could…was that this was the region of 1968 Vietnam that had dinosaurs in it. Well, no wonder we lost. Hello again, everybody. JoBlo.com here bidding you a big Wahoo welcome to Wtf Happened to This Movie?! That’s right, the Cleveland Indians are well on their way to clinching the Al East – which means the 1989 sports comedy Major League is well on its way to becoming a classic of the genre.
But how did Major League reach this status? How did it become one of the most quotable comedies of the decade? How did the cast pull off pitching, swinging and winning like a professional baseball team? How did it go on to represent Cleveland even though it wasn’t even shot there? And why did they have to make those sequels? Well, let’s go juuuuuust a bit outside to find out: Wtf Happened to this Movie?!
You might be surprised to know that Major League comes courtesy of the same guy who won an Oscar for writing The Sting.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. continued campaign fundraising in Los Angeles Wednesday night with a stand-up comedy event hosted by the independent presidential candidate’s wife and actress Cheryl Hines.
The A Night of Laughter With Rfk Jr. & Friends evening at the Million Dollar Theater included performances by Jeremy Piven, Bobby Lee, Rob Schneider, Tre Stewart, Mike Binder, Erica Rhodes, Dustin Ybarra and radio host and podcaster Adam Carolla.
The benefit event, with an after party for $1000 Silver and $1500 Gold contributors, was part of a string of comedy shows planned for across the U.S. as the Rfk Jr. campaign looks to continue raising campaign funds. The first-time presidential candidate is polling in the mid- to high single digits in key U.S. states, according to RealClearPolitics.
That’s enough to potentially pull votes away from U.S. president Joe Biden and former president Donald Trump, both of whom are currently expected to be the U.

Peter Ramsey, Caleeb Pinkett Producing Live-Action Feature Adaptation Of Comic Book ‘The Storm Clan’
Exclusive: Academy Award winner Peter Ramsey (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse) and former Overbook head Caleeb Pinkett (Cobra Kai) are set to produce a live-action feature adaptation of The Storm Clan, the comic book created by Dallas Jackson and Joe Casey, which marks the first title from Jackson’s new company DJ Classicz Comix.
Jackson and Casey will pen the script, with former Lionsgate exec Jorge Alfaro to serve as an EP.
A sci-fi action adventure story, The Storm Clan watches as an ex-military weapons engineer trains his five adopted children to be undercover hi-tech/martial-arts thieves wearing an invincible bionic-body armor. Previously orphaned, the teenagers gifted with bionic technology see it provide them with the opportunity to protect themselves from the threats of the streets, also empowering them to take advantage of life instead of being taken advantage of, and most importantly, giving them comfort and sense of belonging within a family.

This is going to stun anyone who grew up on 21st century superhero cinema (which kicked off in 2000 with Bryan Singer's "X-Men" and only now seems to be on the wane), but what if I told you that in the 1970s, there were television series dedicated to the Hulk, Wonder Woman, and Spider-Man, and they weren't the main small-screen pop cultural obsessions for sci-fi/fantasy fans? Not even close.

Months ago, we here at JoBlo started writing about an issue near and dear to the hearts of film fanatics everywhere – the resurgence of physical media. After being shocked by how difficult it was to find the Ron Howard movie Cocoon, I decided to make a list of 10 movies that were difficult to find, but the comments on the article clued me into the fact that the issue of out-of-print classics is far more widespread than I assumed. Last week, I did an article about how movies like The Cannonball Run and Dogma are missing, and in that vein, here are five more cult classics that are surprisingly tough to find.

This 1992 action film was an early attempt to turn Denzel Washington into an action star. Despite stylish direction by Russell Mulcahy and an unforgettable turn by John Lithgow as the movie’s villain, it was only a modest success.

How far will you go to deny your identity in order to be a somebody? What happens when you make a deal with a devil whom you might normally despise, but has transfixed much of an entire nation’s population? And how long can you will yourself to ignore evidence of the intolerable? These are just a few of the questions raised — sometimes with allusive finesse, sometimes with blunt-force impact — during “The Performance,” an enthralling period drama with often disquieting contemporary relevance.

Year after year, TV fans continue to be irked when the Golden Globes combine supporting performances from comedies, dramas, limited series and TV movies altogether. Looking through the list of past winners in the female category, you can clearly see there’s a bias toward rewarding dramatic roles over comedic ones. In fact, it’s been a whopping 13 years since a supporting actress from a comedy series prevailed: Jane Lynch (“Glee”). Is there a comedy curse at the Golden Globes? If so, it could finally end this year, as Gold Derby predicts Meryl Streep (“Only Murders in the Building”) will win the race for Best TV Supporting Actress on Sunday, January 7.
Streep plays Loretta Durkin on the Hulu hit, an out-of-work theater actress who decides to audition for a Broadway play directed by Oliver Putnam (Martin Short) in order to get closer to one of the other characters. Loretta is tailor-made for awards recognition,...

Who would have thought that one of the more enduring family movies in the last 20 years would come from Brett Ratner and star Nicolas Cage? Indeed, The Family Man was only a modest success when it came out over the holiday season in 2000, but it has since inspired rip-offs and remakes and is a beloved classic for many of us.
In it, Nicolas Cage plays a high-flying businessman named Jack Campbell, who doesn’t appreciate the little things in life, such as Christmas. It’s lonely at the top, but he consoles himself with his Ferrari, penthouse apartment in New York, and hook-ups with women such as supermodel Amber Valletta, who has a small role as his bedmate early in the film. Yet, being alone on Christmas Eve, he does a good deed when he intervenes in a convenience store standoff by showing empathy towards a wired, gun-toting customer, played by Don Cheadle,...

The race by the AMPTP and the WGA to get a deal done by sundown had plenty of folks thinking back to a very memorable episode of Entourage — Doug Ellin, included.
The creator of the HBO comedy was reminded Sunday on X about how the weekend negotiations between the AMPTP and the WGA sounded “like an Entourage storyline.”
Ellin replied, “And on Yom Kippur it sure does.”
Not sure what he’s talking about? Think back 16 years ago to the season 3 episode dubbed “The Return of the King.” The 2007 episode kicks off with the boys at the race track while Ari Gold (Jeremy Piven) is arriving at temple before the start of Yom Kippur. That’s when he runs into Nick Rubenstein (Adam Goldberg), the neurotic son of movie producer Phil Rubenstein who is making the movie Medellin with Paul Haggis.

Robert Rodriguez isn’t against bringing original Spy Kids stars Alexa PenaVega and Daryl Sabara back for another film. But the director says the time between the latest installment, Armageddon, and 2011’s Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World, meant that it was “important to just start the franchise fresh.”
The filmmaker spoke about his decision to launch the latest Spy Kids chapter with a completely new family — and new set of leading child stars — in a new interview with Yahoo Entertainment.
“I wanted to re-establish a new family,” he said of the choice to cast Connor Esterson and Everly Carganilla in the new Netflix film, out Friday. “Because it’d been so long [since 2011’s All the Time in the World], it was important to just start the franchise fresh and then go from there.”

Ari Emanuel sat for a wide-ranging conversation on the podcast On Purpose with Jay Shetty, covering everything from the secrets of success and overcoming fear to the concept of legacy and staying open to risks. Entourage fans may also be stoked to know that the Endeavor CEO opened up about how he really feels about inspiring the over-the-top character played by Jeremy Piven, über agent Ari Gold.
“There [were] aspects to that character, 100 percent true,” Emanuel explains to Shetty, who is a client of Endeavor-owned WME. “I was very aggressive. When we started the business, we couldn’t compete on price because commissions were commissions. There were five other big players and we just had to, one, be more creative, and two, more aggressive and fight. So, yeah, that was true to form. Not all of it but in the surrounding.”

Abbott Elementary creator Quinta Brunson delivered an emotional speech while recalling breaking out at the Just For Laughs festival in 2017 before returning this year to Montreal to pick up the top comedy award in front of a roomful of fellow comics and industry execs.
“This is crazy. It’s wild to be in front of all your comedy heroes,” Brunson said when accepting the best comedy person award at the Just For Laughs ComedyPro conference on Friday. She recounted being part of the New Faces comic discovery program in 2017 at Just For Laughs.
“I was doing a lot of work just to get here, to get to what I considered real comedy. I wanted to get to TV, I wanted to get to film. I was doing stand-up and I was putting in the work and I love comedy. So it was an honor to be recognized back then,” Brunson said.

Some reports say Prince Harry and Meghan Markle might be headed in different directions career-wise. True or not, a royal commentator say the “pressure” of living in the spotlight could certainly be a contributing factor to alleged tension at home.

According to royal commentator Kinsey Schofield, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s supposedly diverging career paths have the potential to add “pressure” to their lives in California.
Meghan, the To Di For Daily podcast host told Gb News via Mirror, “wants to be a power player in Hollywood and this is not the direction Harry has desired to go.”
“The avalanche of these rumors,” Schofield continued. “What they’re saying is that they are taking temporary time apart” because “Harry does not like the chaos of Los Angeles.”

It was 1989, and “Night Court” was still riding high as part of NBC’s “Must See TV” lineup on Thursday nights, the one that featured “The Cosby Show,” “Family Ties” and “Cheers” along with “L.A. Law.” It had the kind of ratings no one could even dream of now, since cable (much less streaming) had yet to become a major prime time force. John Larroquette was the toast of TV portraying “Night Court’s” assistant Da Dan Fielding. He was snappy. He was overbearing. He was a shameless womanizer. He was hilarious. And voting members of the TV academy agreed, bestowing four straight Emmy Awards on Larroquette for supporting actor in a comedy. Not nominations. Wins. He took home Emmys for four consecutive years and was favored to make it five in a row when the actor did something no one could have predicted.
He decided he was done and withdrew his name from consideration.

The recent announcement of the 75th Primetime Emmy nominations confirms that the current Best Comedy Supporting Actor race will be one of the most interesting of the year. Brett Goldstein of Apple TV+’s “Ted Lasso” is now officially in the hunt for a third consecutive victory, but his path is greatly hindered by Golden Globe winner Tyler James Williams of ABC’s “Abbott Elementary.” Scroll through our photo gallery to brush up on all seven of this year’s Best Comedy Supporting Actor nominees and be sure to finalize your Emmy predictions by September 18.
Goldstein, who did defeat Williams last year, would follow Don Knotts (“The Andy Griffith Show”), John Larroquette (“Night Court”), and Jeremy Piven (“Entourage”) as the fourth man to be honored in this category three times in a row. If his show has indeed ended after three seasons, he will be the only one in this bunch with a spotless record.

Entourage creator Doug Ellin went full Ari Gold on a writer who posted an essay declaring that the HBO comedy series will be re-edited to reflect modern sensibilities (à la Roald Dahl and Agatha Christie’s books).
There’s just one thing: The essay was satire, which Ellin apparently didn’t recognize.
The piece was written by Max Davison at McSweeney’s (which should have been the first clue) who pretended to be an HBO executive announcing Entourage will be the network’s first series to undergo “sensitivity readings,” noting, “[Since 2011], we have since undergone vast shifts in our views on women, race, and Ed Hardy …. We are merely removing a handful of problematic elements that were more socially acceptable back in Entourage’s time. These include sexism, homophobia, misogyny, anti-Semitism, dubious sexual politics, Asian hate, toxic masculinity, the casting couch, racial slurs, ethnic slurs, sexist jokes, abusive workplace language, mockery of sex workers,...

It seems like Mark Wahlberg and the rest of the Entourage gang may need to hug it out, as Jeremy Piven is saying he’s the major snag in a potential reboot. Wahlberg, whose exploits with his funky bunch (not that one) were a key inspiration for the story and characters, also served as an executive producer.
Speaking with TMZ, Piven (who won three Emmys for playing Ari Gold) said that if Mark Wahlberg can find the time to throw his weight and starpower behind an Entourage reboot, it will be a Tarvold-level victory for all. “If Mark and his team were really behind it, that would be some nice momentum…Listen, Mark wakes up, he gets about 11 minutes sleep. He wakes up and he prays, he crushes the weights, he never stops! So…when he comes up for air in a little crack of time, just make that call to HBO and everybody wins.

A flurry of new movies will hit North American cinemas this weekend in what marks one of the most varied and crowded lineups since the pandemic struck.
None, however, have a chance of toppling holdover The Super Mario Bros. Movie. The Nintendo video game adaptation should earn at least $55 million to $60 million domestically in its sophomore outing after debuting to an astounding $206.4 million over the long Easter holiday, including $146.6 million for the three-day weekend. That put its global launch at $375.6 million.
From Illumination and Universal, the animated sensation smashed numerous records in its launch. And there’s more to come.

Ben Affleck’s Air is another holdover to watch. The adult-skewing movie, which kicks off Amazon’s foray into the traditional theatrical business, opened to a better-than-expected $20.2 million over the Easter holiday and hopes to do $8.5 million or more this weekend.

“Sweetwater” is a biopic about Nat “Sweetwater” Clifton, the Black power forward who broke the color barrier of the NBA in 1950, three years after Jackie Robinson accomplished the same feat in baseball. It’s telling that Robinson remains one of the most celebrated heroes in sports history, while Clifton is still a somewhat obscure figure.
There’s a biting irony to that contrast. It relates to how the integration of basketball totally changed the game, even more than the integration of baseball changed baseball. “Sweetwater,” written and directed by Martin Guigui, is a straight-down-the-middle inspirational sports movie — and, one regrets to say, a kind of benign sketchbook version of the form. Yet it also tells the tale of the Harlem Globetrotters, the fabled team of barnstorming trickster prodigies who Clifton started off as a member of. There were several levels to the Globetrotters’ athletic magic, and the film captures how...

The stereotype holds true: celebrities love sunglasses. Elton John didn’t take his pink rimless sunnies off when he met the queen; Anna Wintour kept her signature black Chanel sunglasses on throughout the entire Oscars; and Victoria Beckham has almost become synonymous with the variety of square-framed glasses that she gets pictured in anytime she’s outside.
It makes perfect sense that a slew of stars have partnered up with sunglass companies to create their own signature styles. From Jimmy Fallon’s latest collaboration with Warby Parker to the slew of bold-faced names that have partnered with the Australian cult-favorite sunglass brand Quay over the years (we’re partial to these Saweetie’s gorgeous Almost Ready style) there’s no shortage of celebrity-designed sunglass brands and collaborations to shop this summer.
