- In 1938, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer tycoon Louis B. Mayer offered Boratto a contract. She was invited to Hollywood where she was groomed to be the new Jeanette MacDonald but nothing came out of it and Boratto soon grew impatient. She decided to return to Italy just after the war was declared.
