Clap, clap!
Often it’s the unintentional that ignites the most memorable musical moments. In the case of “Beverly Hills 90210,” the theme song’s iconic claps were mere filler for a gap that had composer John E. Davis stumped during a spontaneous all-nighter to churn out a track for producer Aaron Spelling. Turned in just days before the show’s 1990 premiere, the percussive element became more prominent in the revamped opening credits of season two.
“I just didn’t know what to do there when I did the song originally,” says Davis, ahead of the series’ quasi-reprisal BH90210 premiering tonight. “So, I said, ‘I think it would be cool if all of the cast do a hand clap,’ and the director went, ‘I like that hand clap. 20th Century Fox has plans to reboot 2003's League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Variety reports. John Davis is set to produce, and Ira Napoliello and Matt Reilly are helping facilitate the project. Like the flick with Sean Connery, this one will be based on Alan Moore, Kevin O'Neill, and Bill Oakley's comic-book series, which essentially had literary characters turn into steampunk Avengers and kick ass together in Victorian England. The 2003 movie was Connery's last live-action commitment before he retired, so he probably won't be coming back for this one as Allan Quatermain. But that doesn't mean we can't dream.

Alan Moore's The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen is getting a second shot at the big screen...
Based on the work of Alan Moore and Kevin O'Neill, it would be fair to say that the first attempt to bring The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen to the big screen was not a successful one.
The 2003 film is most infamous for being Sean Connery's last screen role, with the actor calling it quits afterwards, such was his unhappiness with the production. He wasn't alone, either. Director Stephen Norrington hasn't helmed a film since, and has gone back to special and visual effects work. Neither had a great time.
Oh, and it's be fair to say that Alan Moore and Hollywood haven't really got on since.
20th Century Fox is hoping a second attempt will be more successful, and it's appointed John Davis to produce, and help bring Lxg back to the screen.

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is the latest property to join the queue of forthcoming reboots.
According to Variety, 20th Century Fox is planning to remake Alan Moore and Kevin O'Neill's graphic novel of the same name which started in 1999.
John Davis, Ira Napoliello and Matt Reilly will oversee the project, which centres on characters from Victorian fiction such as Captain Nemo, the Invisible Man and Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.
Sean Connery starred in the 2003 movie - his last lead movie role before retiring - alongside Naseeruddin Shah, Peta Wilson, Tony Curran, Stuart Townsend, Shane West, Jason Flemyng and Richard Roxburgh.
In 2013, a put pilot television adaptation of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen was developed but never made it to series.

Ah, The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen. That much-maligned 2003 superhero effort, spawned from Alan Moore and Kevin O’Neill’s graphic novels, that failed to generate much love either from fans, critics or – given its eventual $179 million global haul from a $78 million budget, not counting marketing – the box office bean counters. 20th Century Fox thinks there’s life in the property yet and is trying another movie. Moore and O’Neil’s alt-history stories follow a group of literary characters – Alan Quatermain, Captain Nemo, Doctor Jekyll and Dracula’s Mina Harker among them – as they band together to fight off monstrous threats to the realm. It would seem to be fertile fodder for a movie, but that first attempt, which had Stephen Norrington directing a cast including Sean Connery and Jason Flemyng, just didn’t seem able to take full advantage of it. According to Deadline, Fox has a producing team including Ira Napoliello,...

John Davis has set up a new Shaft movie at New Line. A lot of the tropes of 70s blaxploitation movies are quite embarrassing, and more risible than ever after films like Black Dynamite, Don’t Be A Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood and Hollywood Shuffle, but there’s no reason for a new Shaft to keep any kitsch trappings.
In their story, The Wrap are calling the new picture a reboot rather than a remake, which is fair enough as the last sort-of remake of Shaft was actually a sequel: Samuel L. Jackson’s Shaft was the nephew of Richard Roundtree’s original. That might be the case this time, or maybe not. Heck, they might even be planning a period movie for all we know.

The role first brought to life by the late Richard Roundtree, and (sort of) subsequently taken on by Samuel L Jackson, is coming back to the movies.
We're talking about Shaft, centred around Detective John Shaft. who first made his debut in 1971. Roundtree played the character in three big screen adventures (before taking him to television). Then, in the 2000 reboot directed by John Singleton, Samuel L Jackson played his nephew.

Iconic cop John Shaft has been played memorably by two men on screen so far: Richard Roundtree in the 1971 original, its sequels and spin-off TV take, and Samuel L. Jackson in the 2000 update. New Line feels it’s time for a new face to inherit the leather jacket and badass attitude, working up a Shaft reboot. According to The Wrap, producer John Davis is spearheading the new version of the character, with few details yet on who’ll be making the movie or whether the character will, like Jackson’s version, be a relation of Roundtree’s original. Given the racial tension in America at the moment, this could be a ripe time to revisit the tough ‘tec, though it’ll be a challenge for any actor to take over from Roundtree and Jackson. Which makes us throw the question out to you – who would you want to see take on the role?...

The stars can be seen with messages such as "since that day I'm no longer myself", "family honour" and "bear the scars" painted across their faces in support of Plan. Sometimes the Internet breaks a rumor that sits on the fence of truth and lies. The less tested a source is, the more skeptical people get, and sooner or later the truth makes itself known. Last week, we reported one such scoop detailing that that a reboot to the Flash Gordon series was in the works. You can put one on the scoreboard for that untested source, as it has been confirmed that 20th Century Fox is looking to succeed where Universal Studios and the SyFy Channel haven.t: Flash Gordon is back, and he just might save every one of us. The Hollywood Reporter grabbed the official scoop, naming John Davis as the producer and the writing team of J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay as the project.s authors. (Cbr) Look out Ming the Merciles, because Fox has officially planted its flag on Mongo. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio has finally nailed down the rights to a "Flash Gordon" film following a year of work by producer John Davis. The script will be written by "Star Trek 3" writers J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, based on a treatment by George Nolfi of "Bourne Ultimatum" fame. The broad strokes of the story are well-established by now (it has been 80 years after all): a half-mad scientist named Dr. Hans Zasrkov kidnaps handsome polo player (or, later, football player) Flash Gordon and his companion Dale Arden and takes them by rocket ship to the planet Mongo, where the villainous Ming has been hurling asteroids at Earth. Gordon adapts to the new world and quickly becomes Ming’s adversary. Created by famed cartoonist Alex Raymond to compete with "Buck Rogers...

According to reports, Twentieth Century Fox is looking to replace their coveted Lucasfilm "Star Wars" franchise, now in the hands of Disney, by securing screen rights to "Flash Gordon", the 1930's newspaper comics hero, that inspired the creation of "Star Wars" by George Lucas.
Producer John Davis is currently developing a new screenplay by J.D. Payne, Patrick McKay and George Nolfi.
Originally illustrated by Alex Raymond, "Flash Gordon" debuted January 7, 1934, inspired by the space adventures of "Buck Rogers".
'Flash Gordon', a polo player and Yale University graduate and his companions 'Dale Arden' and 'Dr. Hans Zarkov' start their journey together as Earth is bombarded by fiery meteors. Zarkov invents a rocket ship to locate their place of origin in outer space.
Half mad, Zarkov kidnaps Flash and Dale and the three travel to the planet 'Mongo', where they discover the meteors are weapons devised by 'Ming the Merciless',...

Eighty years ago, polo-playing Yalie Flash Gordon first appeared in his own comic strip in newspapers throughout the country. No one under the age of 20 understands half the words in that sentence, yet Flash Gordon endures. Originally created by Alex Raymond as a ’30s-era pulp hero, the character inspired the retroactively beloved 1980 film and, more recently, a shortlived sci-fi series. The strip itself ran through the mid-’00s (you can get a closer look at it here) — and he could be staging a return trip to the big screen: EW has confirmed the news, originally uncovered by The Hollywood Reporter,...

No longer just the punchline of a running gag in Seth MacFarlane’s Ted, Twentieth Century Fox is looking to make a new adaptation of Flash Gordon. The character, of course, predates the cheesy 80s movie that MacFarlane had so much fun with- having debuted as a comic strip in 1934- but this will likely be the biggest splash he’s ever made. Producer John Davis has been gunning for a new Flash Gordon for quite a while and, most recently, spent a year working on getting the rights to the character from the Hearst Corporation. Having succeeded, he’s now tapped J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay to write the script, based off of a treatment by George Nolfi (The Bourne Ultimatum).

Washington, Apr 23: Flash Gordon will soon be seen on the big-screen again, as Twentieth Century Fox has closed a deal to pick up the screen rights to the pulp comic strip hero.
The film will see John Davis producing and J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, the up-and-coming scribes who just worked on 'Star Trek 3', on board to write the script, the Hollywood Reporter reported.
The deal is a long time coming for Davis, who spent more than a year nailing down the rights from the Hearst Corporation.
The veteran producer, whose credits include 'Chronicle' and the upcoming 'Man from U.N.C.L.E.' among dozens of others, used his discretionary.

THR confirm (Film Divider actually broke the news last week) that Twentieth Century Fox has nabbed the rights to Flash Gordon, the pulp comic strip hero who debuted back in the '30s. Most fans will remember the character from the cheesy, but entertaining, '80s movie which featured the now iconic "Queen" soundtrack. This reboot will be produced by John Davis and has up-and-coming scribes J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay on board to pen the script along with George Nolfi. Sony's Neal Moritz recently tried to get his own Flash Gordon flick off the ground, but to no avail. So, who do guys think would suit the roles of Flash, Dale Arden, Hans Zasrkov, Ming the Merciless ..and possibly Lion-Man? Okay so they probably won't go near that cartoon! Sound off in the usual spot.

Universal Pictures has plans to bring the 1968 ABC series It Takes a Thief to the big screen, Variety reports. Hollywood newcomer Greg Russo has come aboard to provide the screenplay. Robert Wagner, Malachi Throne and Fred Astaire starred in the original show, which ran for 66 episodes and followed cat burglar Alexander Mundy (Wagner) as he agrees to work for the United States Secret Intelligence Agency in exchange for his release from prison. It's quite likely that the studio has hopes of turning the 60's spy series into a franchise, similar to what Paramount Pictures did with Mission: Impossible and what Warner Bros. is aiming for with their upcoming The Man From U.N.C.L.E. . Warner Bros. Man from U.N.C.L.E. has Man of Steel Henry Cavill in talks to replace Tom Cruise in the film adaptation of the TV series of the 60s, reports Variety. Guy Ritchie directs the film which also stars Armie Hammer and Alicia Vikander. John Davis produces alongside Lionel Wigram and Ritchie. Man from U.N.C.L.E. ran from 1964-1968 and told of two top agents of the United Network Command for Law Enforcement - Napoleon Solo (Robert Vaughan) and Soviet agent Illya Kuryakin (David McCallum) fighting enemies of peace, in particular those of Thrush. Man from U.N.C.L.E. seems to be an ongoing struggle to find its way to the big screen. In 2011, Steven Soderbergh aimed to land George Clooney as star, but he passed. Later we had Channing Tatum being considered, as well as Bradley Cooper, Ryan Gosling, Joel Kinnaman and Michael Fassbender.

I don’t know what kind of demo reel Tim Miller’s people have circulating around Hollywood, but the dude is still picking up film projects left and right — and all of this while still not having directed a single movie. But hey, that’s Hollywood for ya. Get the right people to sell you, and all the studios come calling. All you really need is one studio to start the ball rolling and suddenly everyone wants in on it. After attaching himself as director on “Deadpool”, before becoming attached to another comic book movie called “Gravel”, and just for good measure, taking on a movie based on the Joe Haldeman novella “Seasons”, Tim Miller has now added a second sci-fi project called “Artemis” to his plate. “Artemis” is from 20th Century Fox, with Andrew Lobel scripting and John Davis doing producing duties. Described as “a contained action thriller set...

It was just announced that visual effects specialist Tim Miller, currently attached to direct Deadpool, has now signed on for another 20th Century Fox project, a sci-fi action thriller going by the name of Artemis, with John Davis onboard to produce. With very little recent news about the Deadpool movie is this the straw that broke the camel’s back? Fox has been trying to do a Deadpool movie for a long time now, but problems with Deadpool escalated more when Ryan Reynolds was cast in the X-Men Origins: Wolverine. It appears now that Artemis would rather be Miller’s feature directorial debut. I’m not sure but...

Visual effects artist Tim Miller has been tapped to direct the sci-fi action thriller "Artemis" for 20th Century Fox.
Andrew Lobel ("Tunnels") will pen the script for what is described as a "contained action thriller set in outer space".
No further details are known, other than John Davis will produce. Miller's name has been linked with various projects, including Fox's long-in-development "Deadpool" movie.
Miller created the disturbing opening credits sequence for David Fincher's "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" adaptation, and directed the Fincher-produced "Halo 4" launch trailer late last year.

29th Century Fox's Artemis sci-fi action thriller produced by John Davis has landed VFX director Tim Miller of the upcoming Deadpool, reports Variety. Scripting duties are now in the hands of Tunnels scribe Andrew Lobel, and apparently the story is set in outer space. That's all we know at this point. Blur Studio's Miller has worked on films ranging from 1995's Keanu Reeves starrer Johnny Mnemonic, X-Men and its sequel X-2, Planet of the Apes, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Friday Night Lights, Night at the Museum, and more recently, The Wolfman starring Benicio Del Toro, Anthony Hopkins and Emily Blunt. He was also the title designer for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo reboot.

"Ironside" was once an iconic TV detective, a wheelchair bound warrior played by Raymond Burr. Now, it looks like Blair Underwood is ready to fill that rolling seat: NBC has ordered a new "Ironside" pilot starring Underwood in the title role.
The network picked up the pilot on Tuesday (Feb. 5), and Underwood's participation was confirmed on that same day. "Ironside" will be, according to NBC:
"A tough, sexy but acerbic police detective relegated to a wheelchair after a shooting is hardly limited by his disability as he pushes and prods his hand-picked team to solve the most difficult cases in the city."
Michael Caleo, David Semel, Teri Weinberg, John Davis and Jon Fox will executive-produce the pilot.
Whatever changes the new show might make to the classic, at least Ironside himself will remain pretty much the same. No other casting for the pilot has been announced.

Exclusive: Studio moguls often come into their jobs roaring like a lion. But then they leave like a lamb. Such was the case when a kinder and gentler Tom Rothman came back onto the Fox lot this week for his on-the-downlow swan song held at the Fox commissary. “It was very warm and cordial and packed with a ton of people,” one insider tells me about the goodbye party Monday night. An estimated 250-300 invitation-only guests ate and drank in honor of Rothman, who was ousted in that September 14th studio shakeup and left the lot on October 12th. Dinah Sheridan, who played the mother in the 1970 version of The Railway Children, has died. We take a look at her life in film
Before the second world war, a teenage Sheridan played the fresh-faced ingenue in a string of British features, including a snobbish daughter in Father Steps Out (1937) and a theatrical type in the murder mystery Landslide (also 1937) – the latter film co-starring her future husband Jimmy Hanley. Clips are hard to find for these cheap and cheerful pictures – it's not until cult caper Calling Paul Temple (1948) that we can get a look at Sheridan, then in her late 20s, in action. She played Steve, the vivacious wife of the suave crime novelist of the title, played by John Bentley.
And you can catch a glimpse of Sheridan doing some knitting while a precocious Petula Clark twangs her guitar in The Huggetts Abroad, one of the series of Huggetts movies in the late 40s.
