Toronto – The CBC, Canada's public broadcaster, on Thursday dumped right wing pundit Tom Flanagan from its Power and Politics show after he declared viewers of kiddie porn should not be jailed. Flanagan, a former chief of staff to Canadian prime minister Stephen Harper, told a University of Lethbridge audience Wednesday night he was Ok with viewing child pornography on personal liberty grounds. “I certainly have no sympathy for child molesters, but I do have some grave doubts about putting people in jail because of their taste in pictures,” Flanagan said in an online video that went viral Thursday.

Over the past few months I’ve been feeling a little nostalgic about the old days of horror. I miss the Saturday afternoon Creature Features, the original Famous Monsters of Filmland magazine and the atmospheric, scary horror stories that seem to be so few and far between in today’s explicitly graphic literature.
Sure I can watch the same movies on DVD or Blu-Ray now but it isn’t the same. The excitement of a cold winter Saturday afternoon spent in front of an old black and white TV set watching rubber monsters, giant insects, Karloff, Chaney and Lugosi is now lost to the ravages of time and adulthood.
And I like a good ol’ blood soaked, violent, decadent story as well as the next horror nut but I want to be scared. Scared as in, hearing the house creak while I am reading and calling my Akita up on my bed with me scared.
