On Sunday nights, millions of viewers watch Brian Cox deliver a gargantuan performance as Logan Roy on HBO’s Emmy-winning drama series “Succession,” but eight times a week Cox steps into the shoes of the truly towering, historical figure Lyndon B. Johnson in “The Great Society” on Broadway.
“The Great Society,” the second play about President Johnson from Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winner Robert Schenkkan, opened on Broadway at the Vivian Beaumont Theater on October 1. Its predecessor play “All The Way,” which depicts Johnson’s first year in office from 1963-64 after the death of John F. Kennedy, bowed in 2014 and won the Tony Award for Best Play and Best Actor for Bryan Cranston. Cranston would later reprise the role for an HBO film adaptation, which landed him a SAG Award win and Emmy, Golden Globe, Critics’ Choice, TCA, and Gold Derby nominations.

As Robert Schenkkan’s The Great Society begins pulling you back back back to a cultural moment that rivals our own in meanness, division and barrel-scraping crumminess, Brian Cox would seem to have the toughest job on Broadway. Portraying the accidental president who succeeded the martyred one only to land waste deep in one big muddy after another, Cox must convince his audience that he can match, hog-tie and serve up like so much barbecue a personality as big as the Lone Star State itself.
I mean, just imagine having to follow Bryan Cranston.
If you’ve seen HBO’s robust Succession, you already know Cox seems up for just about any challenge tossed his way, including the role of Lyndon Baines Johnson in the second of Schenkkan’s two-part bio-drama. The first installment, All The Way, debuted on Broadway in 2014, winning Cranston a Tony Award for his uncanny performance...

A new Broadway season is gearing up, and there are currently nine productions of plays set to open this fall. Could we be seeing any of them contend at this year’s Tony Awards? Below, we recap the plot of each play as well as the awards history of its author, cast, creative types, the opening, and (where applicable) closing dates.
“Betrayal” (opens September 5; closes December 8)
In the third Broadway revival of Harold Pinter’s 1978 award-winning play, the story charts a compelling seven-year romance, thrillingly captured in reverse chronological order.
The original Broadway production received Tony nominations for star Blythe Danner and director Peter Hall. This production is coming in after a successful run in London’s West End earlier this year. The cast includes Emmy nominee Tom Hiddleston, Zawe Ashton, SAG winner Charlie Cox, and is directed by Laurence Olivier Award winner Jamie Lloyd.

If you don’t remember Amanda Bearse from the 80’s and 90’s it could have been that Married..With Children just wasn’t your cup of tea, or perhaps you weren’t born during that era. Whatever she’s done since, and she’s done plenty to be honest, Amanda is likely always going to be known best for her role as Marcy Rhoades D’Arcy. There was something special about the plucky little woman next door that exemplified the show in a way that made her invaluable. When the character of Steve Rhoades, played by David Garrison, left the show, he was missed for a while

Ok, it’s not all about Meryl Streep this time. But we’re really excited to hear that the legendary actress is currently in some serious talks to join Rob Marshall‘s upcoming adaptation of Into The Woods. And as we said, she’s not the only one, because Anna Kendrick, Patrick Wilson, James Corden and Nina Arianda are also potential candidates for the feature film.
As we previously reported, Into The Woods will include some of the most beloved fairytales like Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk and Rapunzel, and all together will give us an original story.
That new story will center on a Baker and his wife who try to reverse a curse on their family in order to have a child, exploring the consequences of the characters’ wishes and quests and their desire for happily ever after.
And now, something about the possible cast.

Silence! - The Musical The 9th Space Theatre at P.S. 122, NYC
Of the many attempts to chase the legacy of the 1982 benchmark in horror/comedy of the musical variety that is Little Shop of Horrors, Silence! makes a fair play to place. Brandishing a well-equipped arsenal of deadpan, vulgarity, camp, and a wide array of theatrical references, this musical parody of Silence of the Lambs makes killing look easy.
While it is doubtful that any score in this unlikely sub-genre will ever live up to the catchy, simplistic brilliance of Alan Menken (before he whored himself out to Disney), Silence! picks up a ball that was dropped Off-Broadway years ago and has been shamelessly fumbled ever since. In short, it's now safe to go see a musical mock-up of a horror film classic again.
This cast delivers many standout performances. Jenn Harris deconstructs Jodie Foster, offering up a few...

Veteran actors Dan Butler, David Garrison, Julie Halston, Marcia Jean Kurtz, and Richard Masur say it's rare to find themselves in a play exploring the lives of mature people grappling with the sometimes thorny, occasionally comic issues of aging. They feel lucky to be in Charles Busch's "Olive and the Bitter Herbs," a comedy set in New York City that details the evolving relationships among embittered Jewish actor Olive (Kurtz), her slightly demented caregiving friend Wendy (Halston), two bickering gay neighbors (Butler and Garrison), and the twice widowed Sylvan (Richard Masur). Throw into the brew a ghost and a "six degrees of separation" theme. Busch is perhaps best known for his play "The Tale of the Allergist's Wife," which was nominated for a 2001 Tony Award for best play. "Olive and the Bitter Herbs" is a Primary Stages production running Off-Broadway.Seated on its set—a cozy living room in a prewar,...
