Vendôme Pictures has acquired the remake rights to produce a scripted adaptation of ”A Fire Within,” an award-winning human rights documentary about Ethiopian refugee Edgegayehu “Edge” Taye.
The 2021 nonfiction film documented how Taye, a torture survivor, flees to the U.S. only to discover that her former torturer is living there and working alongside her at her new job in a midtown Atlanta hotel. It follows the attempts of Taye and two other Ethiopian women to bring her torturer to justice in America. Directed by Christopher Chambers, ”A Fire Within” has won several awards on the film festival circuit after premiering at the Atlanta Film Festival, where it won the audience award for best documentary.

This Is Planet Z follows a group of mostly young women of color who conceptualized, organized and mobilized youth across the United States to speak up and incite change. Their actions culminated in 7.5 million people striking on September 20, 2019, encouraging young voter turnout that influenced the 2020 presidential election and key races across the U.S.
The doc followed adolescents who were spurred into action when former President Trump withdrew from the Paris Climate Agreement, effectively making the U.S. the only nation that abandoned its promises to curtail emissions.

Exclusive: Minka Kelly has joined Harvey Keitel, Sam Worthington and AnnaSophia Robb in the cast of Eytan Rockaway’s (The Abandoned) upcoming biopic Lansky, about the infamous gangster Meyer Lansky, a contemporary of Bugsy Siegel. As previously announced, Keitel plays the notorious Lansky.
Also rounding out the cast are Orange Is the New Black‘s Jackie Cruz, John Magaro (The Big Short) who plays the younger Lansky, David Cade (upcoming Michael Shannon movie Swing) as Siegel, David James Elliot and Alon Aboutboul.
Shooting is currently underway in Alabama, with Voltage Pictures handling international sales at the upcoming European Film Market in Berlin.
Rockaway wrote the script depicting Lansky in various stages of his life. It’s partially based on his father Robert Rockaway’s interviews with the real-life Lansky, which were part of his extensive research into America’s key crime figures.

Hollywood’s sound pros nominated Birdman and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes for three awards apiece as the Motion Picture Sound Editors unveiled nods for its 62nd Mpse Golden Reel Awards, honoring the best feature film, television, animation and computer entertainment work of the year.
“2014 was a fantastic year for sound,” said Mpse president Frank Morrone. “The advent of new distribution channels, streaming services and gaming platforms is creating additional opportunities for sound artists to practice their craft beyond the traditional venues of film and television. The 2014 Scottish Mental Health Arts and Film Festival was launched today in Glasgow's City Chambers. Themed around power and mental health, it is aiming to get back to its roots, and it will involve 300 events held in diverse venues all around the country. Films on this year's slate include hard-hitting Edinburgh documentary Everybody's Child and thoughtful American odyssey Stand Clear Of The Closing Doors.

The script chronicles the meeting of Mickey Crugnali and Sam Morton, a convicted murderer dying of AIDS whose remaining days on "hospital detail" give him the opportunity for redemption through conversations with the young man about his own family issues.
Alonso ("Friday Night Lights") plays Morton's long-lost daughter who strikes up a friendship with Mickey, and TV vet Fiore ("Brotherhood") plays Mickey's father.
"Mulberry," being repped by Wme Global, is shooting in Providence. It is being produced by former casting director Russell Gray and Michael DeLiso, with financing a combination of private equity and Rhode Island tax incentives.
