It’s been two years since one of the worst school shootings in American history. On May 24, 2022, a gunman killed 21 at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. Nineteen children were among the victims, and two teachers. It’s the kind of tragedy so horrific that outsiders to the community of 15,000 will think of it first whenever they hear the name Uvalde. And probably will for decades to come.
ABC News’ Investigative Unit wanted to go deeper. A couple of days after the shooting, the news network committed to a program called Uvalde: 365, in which they would keep journalists in Uvalde for an entire year to better understand how a small town handles the aftermath of such a tragedy, and how life goes on. The result is a unique documentary called “Print It Black,” referring to how the local newspaper, the Uvalde Leader-News, chose to run an edition the day after...

Disney has done an awful lot with "Star Wars" since purchasing all of Lucasfilm from George Lucas back in 2012 for more than $4 billion. They've generated billions at the box office with movies like "The Force Awakens," created a living, breathing version of a galaxy far, far away at Disneyland and Disney World in the form of "Galaxy's Edge," and even made the franchise successful in live-action on TV. Recently though, Disney suffered a gigantic, pricey failure as it was revealed that the "Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser," aka the expensive "Star Wars" hotel at Disney World, is shutting down this fall. But the company did try to save it, and it was nearly Mando and Grogu to the rescue.
The Wrap did a deep dive into what went wrong with the "Galactic Starcruiser," which was billed as a cruise-like, immersive experience that lasted two days for fans who could afford to pay for the privilege.

Just as fast as it materialized, Disney’s “Star Wars”-themed hotel, the Galactic Starcruiser, went belly up in one of the company’s biggest busts in recent memory, the nearly $1 billion resort unceremoniously shut down by the entertainment giant less than a week ago. The relatively straightforward idea for an ultra-themed hotel wound up — thanks to a combination of hubris, mismanagement and greed — as perhaps the greatest Disney theme park disaster ever.
The 100-room resort, which one ex-Imagineer estimated cost the company more than $1 billion, was supposed to be the next big thing for Disney’s theme parks, an interactive and wholly immersive experience, built around a traditional hotel but including elements of live-action role-playing, improvisational theater and more common theme-park mechanics.

Disney has churned out many classic animated hits. However, at the turn of the century, the studio was experiencing a slump and needed something that would revive it. So they decided to take a risk with a movie about an elephant in a nightclub. The movie was in the works for several years, but it eventually got scrapped.

This is probably a hot take, but Walt Disney Animation's many canceled projects often sound a lot more interesting than the films they end up releasing. Sure, there might have been legitimate reasons as to why these films get canned, but a lot of them either looked visually stunning in concept art or had unique plots that would have been cool to see on the big screen.
One of these fabled canceled projects was "Fraidy Cat," a homage to Alfred Hitchcock's noir and suspense films. Little has been released about the project since its supposed cancelation in 2005, and even fewer pieces of art have been released to give us an idea of what it would have looked like. It's a real shame as well because it sounds like it could have been a hit with critics and audiences alike.
However, 17 years after its cancelation, we have a clearer idea...

Welcome to this week’s “Just for Variety.”
I just got back from New York City, where I covered the MTV VMAs red carpet. To see Lil Nas X blazing his rainbow trail continues to amaze me in the most beautiful way. He is LGBTQ power and awareness personified. And then to top it all off, I had Troye Sivan teasing the upcoming video for his new sex-centric single, “Angel Baby.” Reflecting on his career and now Lil Nas X’s monumental rise, Sivan says, “We’re moving in the right direction.”
Meanwhile, Lil Nas X, whose debut studio album “Montero” drops on Sept. 17, says he’d also love to work with Drake and Nicki Minaj. “I love them,” he says. When I suggest a three-way collaboration, Lil Nays says with a big smile, “Let’s do both of them at the same time!”.

Pete Buttigieg has returned to the scene of the crime, or at least the site of what some progressives see as his original sin. He is back at Stevens High School in Claremont, New Hampshire, on a desultory Saturday in January. The ancient gym walls were bathed in red, white, and blue spotlights last time he was here, for a Fox News Town Hall with Chris Wallace last May. The night was seen by most as an overwhelming success, a breakthrough on the path of a 37-year-old gay mayor of...

Variety looks back on some of the most memorable media events of 2019:
‘Catch & Kill’ Reopens Wounds at NBC News
Ronan Farrow’s book relitigates his complaints that NBC News tried to tamp down his investigation of harassment and assault allegations against Harvey Weinstein. NBC News denies the claim. The book contains new allegations against ex-“Today” anchor Matt Lauer, fired in 2017 for sexual misconduct.
TV News Gears Up for 2020 Race, Impeachment Inquiry
Anchors away! The news industry, already upended by a 24/7 cycle dominated by White House antics, has had to stretch to cover a gaggle of Democratic presidential candidates and the House impeachment inquiry into President Trump. Programming disruptions have been the new normal.
Susan Zirinsky Shakes Up CBS News
The veteran producer was named the first female president of CBS News at a time of ratings declines and low workplace morale at the division. Within weeks of taking the job,...

The Frozen II teaser came out a couple weeks ago, and while it showed us glimpses of some pretty wicked stuff, it didn’t really give us any idea what the movie will actually be about. Like, there is a badass sequence where Elsa is using her powers to freeze waves to try to run across the sea, but maybe that’s just her new cardio? It does appear that the sisters are on some kind of quest, and Anna’s sword slash at the end definitely gives the impression that there is danger afoot, but what are they questing for and who might be trying to stop them? Well, I still can’t answer the latter question, but we have gotten a hint about the former. Bloggers Jim Hill and Drew Taylor announced on their Fine Tooning podcast:
“It is about Anna and Elsa searching for what actually happened to their parents…...

The first Frozen 2 trailer dropped more or less out of the blue earlier this month and dazzled viewers with its mix of vibrant and engrossingly moody visuals, quickly beating the all-time record for most-watched trailer for an animated movie. But while the two-minute preview offered plenty to please the eyes, it didn’t have nearly as much to bring us in the way of plot details.
Enter this recent report from the Fine Tooning podcast, which alleges some pretty big news about Anna and Elsa’s next adventure. According to bloggers Jim Hill and Drew Taylor (who have a noteworthy track record when it comes to Disney-related intel), the two heroines of 2013’s Frozen will be journeying beyond the land of Arendelle in order to find out what happened to their parents.

A couple of months ago, Avengers: Endgame co-director Joe Russo sent a few fan theorists back to the drawing board when he said that Chris Evans of Captain America fame is “not done yet,” before adding that people will know “soon enough” what exactly he means by this remark. Assuming this wasn’t another red herring from the Avengers: Infinity War helmsman, it would be all too easy to interpret the claim as a tease that the character of Steve Rogers has further projects lined up beyond Marvel’s Phase 3. But according to a new report from Jim Hill, Disney could be calling on Evans in a very different capacity.
The Disney and entertainment industry insider has tweeted that Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has allegedly offered Evans the opportunity to direct a few episodes for the Marvel TV shows headed for Disney Plus. And while this report has yet to be confirmed,...
