Several months after the Hollywood Critics Association rebranded itself as the Hollywood Creative Alliance, the org has also given its signature awards shows a new name. The Hca announced Friday that its various Hca awards will now be known as ‘The Astra Awards.’
That means the Hca Film Awards, Hca TV Awards and Hca Creative Arts Awards will become the Astra Film Awards, Astra TV Awards and the Astra Creative Arts Awards. The name change was approved by the org’s advisory committee on Nov. 17.
“As the Hollywood Creative Alliance expands to include creatives and other industry professionals, we wanted an award name that would be reflective of the newly relaunched organization,” said Hca CEO Scott Menzel in a statement. “The name ‘Astra’ is a perfect award show title evoking celestial brilliance and creative mastery. It encapsulates the collaborative spirit, symbolizing individual stars and elegantly embodies the industry’s aspiration,...

Is a Lohanaissance soon to be upon us?
Once one of Hollywood’s most promising young stars, carrying films like Nancy Meyers’ 1998 remake of The Parent Trap and reaching the A-list with 2004’s Mean Girls, Lindsay Lohan’s trajectory was soon violently derailed by addiction and a party-girl lifestyle that made her a TMZ mainstay. Her last studio films came in 2007 with Universal’s Georgia Rule and Sony’s I Know Who Killed Me.
But at 36, Lohan has been granted a second chance. Her three-picture movie deal with Netflix officially kicks off Nov. 10 with the romantic comedy Falling for Christmas. Netflix tweeted the one-sheet on Oct. 3 — informally referred to by Lohan fans as “Mean Girls Day,” named for an exchange between her Mean Girls character and crush. Lohan gets above-the-title billing in Falling for Christmas and is the only actor to appear in...

A.R. Rahman, Oscar, BAFTA and Grammy-winning composer of “Slumdog Millionaire,” will world premiere “99 Songs,” his debut as screenwriter and producer, at the Busan International Film Festival on Wednesday.
The film, directed by Vishwesh Krishnamoorthy (TV’s “The Dewarists”), will play as part of the festival’s Open Cinema strand. The screening will be preceded by a live piano performance by Rahman where he will bow themes from the film.
“It’s like a fairy tale, where a guy has to write a 100 songs to win the girl, but it’s not that simple,” Rahman told Variety. The peripatetic composer spends a lot of time on planes. That, coupled with his post-Oscars composing phase with Hollywood’s comparatively relaxed schedule, gave him the time to conceive the idea of writing a film about music.
“We have all the social stigmas, musicians are always drunk and dead at the end,” says Rahman.

Not that it should surprise anyone, but early reviews are now in for Alejandro González Iñárritu’s The Revenant, and of course, they’re extremely positive. Critics are praising the film as a whole, and many are stating that 2016 could be the year that Leonardo DiCaprio Finally wins an Oscar.
Judging by the footage we’ve seen so far, it’s certainly possible, and after hearing these initial reports, we can’t wait to see what Iñárritu has in store for us with his latest effort.
Full reviews will arrive later on next month, closer to the film’s December 25th release, but for now, check out some early reactions below:
I saw The Revenant today. It’s great.

The revenant was so brutal I feel like I need to lie down. Beautiful camera work almost makes it worth it — cassian elwes (@cassianelwes) November 23, 2015
