“White Girl,” September 2 – Elizabeth Wood, Writer and Director
Elizabeth Wood’s feature film debut was almost immediately deemed “shocking!” and “racy!” and “wild!” as soon as it debuted at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, but underneath a film about throwing caution to the wind in the pursuit of both terrible decisions and the capricious joys of youth beats a big, honest heart. Exclusive: Warner Bros is in talks with Shawn Levy to develop to direct Minecraft, the hot video game franchise that Warner Bros acquired in February on the heels of the studio’s success with The Lego Movie. The game was created by Swedish indie developer Mojang Ab (mojang means “gadget” in Swedish), and the film is being produced by Roy Lee through his Vertigo banner along with Jill Messick. Lee produced The Lego Movie with Dan Lin, which has sequels and spinoffs planned. Like that film, Minecraft provides a brand name and a blank canvas on which to launch a multiple audience quadrant film franchise. The Xbox version of the game has already sold well over 10 million copies.
In the actual game, players create their own avatar and are dropped into a blank world filled with nocturnal monsters. Players use cubes to create, build, and destroy structures and other forms...

Exclusive Update: A spirited bidding battle has concluded with a deal for Universal Pictures to acquire the Ice Cube comic vehicle Rocky Mountain High. They got this done right before Yom Kippur, and it’s an aggressive deal with progress-to-production language. They are keeping the logline under wraps, but it is a high-concept, big-idea comedy set in Colorado. They’ll hire a writer immediately and will shoot the film by the middle of 2015, with Cube starring and producing with his longtime manager Jeff Kwatinetz and Beau Flynn. Just as I reported yesterday, this went down to the wire with Relativity, Paramount, MGM and New Line all bidding.
Cube has history with most of those studios, but weighing in favor on behalf of Donna Langley is that she took on Ride Along after it was dropped by New Line, and she also greenlit Cube’s passion biopic, Straight Outta Compton, which...

Washington, May 8: A recent research has revealed that depression and anger among young adults has a negative impact on their love life even when they reach middle age.
The study shows that it's not only your partner's current behaviour or your current behaviour that is responsible in shaping your relationship, but earlier chapters of life also have a huge role to play.
Matthew Johnson, researcher from University of Alberta, said that we assume our high school experiences cannot influence our future, but sometimes problems don't just dissipate.

12 Years a Slave continues to be the leader in the clubhouse when it comes to nominations. After leading the Spirit Award nominations it now leads the International Press Academy's (Ipa) 2013 Satellite Award nominations with a total of ten noms, followed by American Hustle and Gravity, each with eight nominations. The top five nominees were rounded out by Rush with seven nominations and Inside Llewyn Davis and Saving Mr. Banks with six nominations each. The Satellites, however, are an interesting bunch. As you can see there are several nominations in each category, leaving pretty much no stone unturned. I guess you could say no nomination for Octavia Spencer (Fruitvale Station) is a surprise and, in my personal opinion, with such a large field of nominees I'd like to see Joaquin Phoenix (Her) get a nomination, but that certainly isn't going to be a film for everyone even though Arcade Fire was...

Matt (Matthew Johnson) and Owen (Owen Williams) are two high school kids making a movie about two high school kids making a movie about two high school kids making a movie... Wait. Are there two levels of reality or three? I get dizzy just thinking about it, so for now I will just stick with three...or two. Anyways... The movie that Matt and Owen are making is precisely what we might expect from high school boys nowadays. The dialogue is riddled with profanity and -- like most of the YouTube generation -- they have a bloody fascination with bodily injuries. As if the characters within the film cannot think of anything original to say, their dialogue is chock full of cinematic quotations and references (appropriately enough, several chunks of Quentin Tarantino dialogue is cleverly re-appropriated). Oh, and the production value is low enough to deter some viewers...but they do use wireless mics!

This Morning presenter Matt Johnson has joked that Ant & Dec should have their own special National Television Award to stop them hogging the 'Entertainment Presenter' gong at the annual ceremony. The Geordie duo have taken home the prize for 11 consecutive years and will be aiming for a 12th on Wednesday night, but Johnson suggested that the pair could perhaps take a break from the NTAs in 2014. "Ant and Dec definitely deserve all the awards that they've been picking up down the years. If the NTAs were coming from their peers and critics they'd be getting all the same awards as well, I reckon," Johnson told Digital Spy. "They're just the best at what they do. "But come on guys, 11 years in a row. They should just win one more award, name it the Ant & Dec Award and let someone have a chance. "Poor Dermot [O'Leary], (more)...

Throught the years, the Sundance Film Festival and its more irreverant cousin, the Slamdance Film Festival have played host to no shortage of films about adolescents and high school. But we're willing to bet there are few as potentially eye-opening as "The Dirties." Set to premiere at Slamdance in a just a short while, we have the exclusive red band trailer for the film, and it's definitely worth a look. Marking the feature directorial debut of Matt Johnson (the man behind the web series "Nirvana The Band The Show"), he also co-stars (with Owen Williams) in, and co-wrote (with Evan Morgan), the tale of two cinema-loving high school friends, who are tormented by bullies. They decide to make a movie about exacting revenge on their tormentors, but it turns out, one of the friends isn't joking about getting justice. And as you'll see below in the trailer, what starts with...

Washington, November 3: Couples about to get married should not ignore nagging doubts about walking down the aisle, experts have warned.
"If you are having doubts about the relationship, just ignoring them may make a difference years down the road," Matthew Johnson, co-author of the study while at Kansas State University, said.
The study by researchers from the University of Alberta found that couples who were more confident as they exchanged vows also spent more time together 18 months into the marriage, and were still happy sharing life with their spouses at the three-year mark.
The study used existing research data to weigh the marital confidence of 610 newlywed couples over a period of four years. Those who were.

Chicago, Sept 2 (Reuters) - For more than half a century, the Shew family has harvested mountains of popcorn kernels to be buttered, salted and munched by movie fans.
But as a crippling Midwestern drought sends commodity soybean and grain prices soaring, the family's farmland in west-central Indiana is suffering. Plants are listing, stalks are spindly and corn ears small.
It's an ill portent for the snack food world. All across the Midwest, where rows of popcorn normally thrive alongside fields of soybeans, U.S. popcorn farmers have watched in horror as stifling, triple-digit temperatures and weeks without rain withered crops.

This film’s stop-and-start cycle has picked up once again — possibly right before it dies down once more. Almost five months after Patricia Arquette found herself in Jake Scott‘s biopic of Jeff Buckley, The Daily Mail have learned that Gemma Arterton is in talks to join the project, which has (apparently) nabbed Olivia Thirlby and Harry Treadaway (Fish Tank) since our last report.
In Scott‘s film — one that, since we last heard, has been given the title of Mystery White Boy — Arterton would appear as “a character who represents the partying women in [Buckley's] life,” a role that stands in contrast to Thirlby‘s: one of “the more responsible partners with whom Buckley enjoyed relationships.” Treadaway, in the meantime, is going musical in the picture, being pegged to play Buckley’s drummer, Matt Johnson. That’s a part he should handle with a little grace; he took a similar role in another music biopic,...

Gemma Arterton, Olivia Thirlby and Harry Treadaway have signed on to the Jeff Buckley biopic "Mystery White Boy" which Jake Scott ("Welcome to the Rileys") is directing reports The Daily Mail.
Buckley (to be played by Reeve Carney) emerged on the club scene in New York City in the early 1990s and recorded his only studio album "Grace" in 1994. Since his death, his work has gone on to achieve success and acclaim, most notably his cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah".

Exclusive: Jennifer Johnson, executive producer/showrunner of Fox’s freshman drama Alcatraz, has signed an overall deal with 20th Century Fox TV after a five-year stint at Warner Bros TV, which produces Alcatraz. 20th TV chairman Dana Walden noted that Johnson is exactly the type of writer-showrunner 20th TV wants on its roster, “somebody who can contribute meaningfully to our existing shows and somebody whose development we’re interested in.” Johnson spent the last season on Alcatraz, where she started as a consultant after the pilot and was bumped up to executive producer/showrunner following the November departure of co-creator/executive producer Liz Sarnoff. With her deal at 20th TV, which starts at the end of the season, Johnson will be leaving Alcatraz. The Chris Rene-Brennin Hunt group gets "What's Going On" by the late, great Marvin Gaye. Awesome song for these voices, I predict - and then they do. It's very good. Matthew Johnson is a great one we haven't really seen before. Chris Rene doesn't sound as good as he did on his audition song. The Country group gets "I Won't Let Go" and it's a great piece for every single member. Hannah Bethel is a stand out, as are Thomas Wells and Tim Cifers. They all do very well. The Emma Henry group (we've seen her on "Idol," I think) gets "Chasing Cars" and the guy who leads it off is not good. Hannah Jackson has an interesting voice, very torn on her. Emma is another weird one.

It turns out that all of his early days of playing cops and robbers were just part of his Method training for his later career on the big screen playing robbers and the occasional cop.
In traditional Fiddy fashion, the rapper/actor has landed himself yet another credit in a movie exploring both sides of the law, as producer and star of the upcoming thriller "The Pursuit."
The movie, produced by Jackson's Cheetah Vision Films in conjunction with Emmett/Furla Films, tells the story of a police officer (Jackson) and a criminal who work together to hunt down a bank robber on the run from the law.

Ashton Kutcher once flew half way around the world just so he could spend one hour with his wife Demi Moore - but he insists the romantic gesture "was worth it".
The Just Married actor, who wed Moore in 2005, admits he has gone to great lengths to prove his devotion to the actress, although even the "simplest, easiest" thoughts can keep a romance alive.
He tells Britain's Ok! TV host Matt Johnson, "It was worth it. I just think that sometimes romance is only doing something that's a little bit uncomfortable.
"Romance can be the simplest, easiest thing, but it's really just about doing something that's uncomfortable for you. If you normally don't take the time to do something and you do one day... it doesn't always have to be something grand."...
