The “Hearties” are still waiting to hear when they can expect When Calls the Heart Season 11 to hit Hallmark Channel, but in the meantime, we have a milestone to celebrate! January 11 marks When Calls the Heart’s 10th anniversary, and it’s been a decade full of drama — both in the fictional Coal Valley and, occasionally, in real life. In honor of the show’s 10th birthday, here are some fun facts about the Hallmark hit that you might not know… It was a Hallmark movie before it was a Hallmark series. Before producer Michael Landon Jr. developed the When Calls the Heart TV show, he turned the same Janette Oke story into a Hallmark movie. Also titled When Calls the Heart, that 2013 movie featured Maggie Grace, Jean Smart, and Stephen Amell. And Lori Loughlin plays Abigail in both versions. The original plan was to film When Calls the Heart in Colorado.

Every Sunday evening, loyal Hearties take a break from real life and are transported to the world of Hope Valley. For 10 seasons (soon to be 11), Hallmark Channel’s beloved series When Calls the Heart has explored the stories of schoolteacher Elizabeth and the other residents of the small town on the Canadian frontier.
While Hallmark has brought Hope Valley to life on screen, fans can thank author Janette Oke for crafting the stories that inspired the show, which is based on her Canadian West series. And while When Calls the Heart diverted from its source material some time ago, Oke’s books remain a companion to the show. So, if you want to experience a different version of Elizabeth’s story, here are all the When Calls the Heart books, in order.

Hallmark’s ‘When Calls the Heart’ to Continue Filming During Strike After Receiving SAG-AFTRA Waiver
The actors’ guild awarded Hallmark Media’s family Western “When Calls the Heart” with a SAG-AFTRA interim agreement in the midst of its standoff with the AMPTP.
This means Season 11 will move forward with filming prior to Sunday’s premiere of Season 10. The series now joins Apple TV+’s “Tehran” and “The Chosen,” which also received an interim agreement from the guild. SAG-AFTRA has granted 68 projects with interim agreements thus far during the actors strike, which started July 14.
Per SAG-AFTRA, the union’s interim agreements allow awarded
“productions to continue working during a strike provided that the producer agrees to abide by the terms that SAG-AFTRA is seeking from the AMPTP. In that case, the ‘Interim Agreement’ would largely be conformed to the AMPTP agreement on a going-forward basis once the membership ratifies successor agreements with the AMPTP.”

Hallmark Channel may have cut ties with Lori Loughlin but they aren’t giving up on “When Calls the Heart.”
According to the show’s producers, the Western drama has not been canceled but is undergoing “retooling” after Loughlin — a series regular — was fired by Hallmark Channel last week following her arrest in the ongoing college admissions bribery scandal.
“#Hearties, thank you for your love, support and patience these last several days as we have been preoccupied with the news about Lori Loughlin and her family, and the decisions our colleagues at the Hallmark Channel USA needed to make,” read a “producers’ statement” from Brian Bird and the show’s other executive producers that was posted to the show’s official Instagram page on Sunday. “As you can imagine, everyone involved with ‘When Calls the Heart’ was surprised by these developments, so we hope you can forgive us for initially...

The Hallmark Channel has confirmed that its series When Calls The Heart is not being canceled, despite the parent company’s firing of key player Lori Loughlin for her alleged role in a college bribery scandal.
In an Instagram post sent Friday on its official account, the channel assured fans the series isn’t going away, despite being placed on hiatus in the wake of Loughlin’s legal troubles. “Hope Valley has many more stories left to share and we will let you know the details soon,” the post said.
Hallmark parent Crown Media earlier said it was no longer working with Loughlin and “have stopped development of all productions that air on the Crown Media Family Network channels involving Lori Loughlin, including Garage Sale Mysteries, an independent third party production.”

Hallmark Channel pink-slipped Lori Loughlin and pulled the plug on Garage Sales Mysteries earlier today, and now the Crown Media-owned outlet is putting the actor’s other series When Calls the Heart on ice, for a bit.
The March 17 primetime episode of the western drama has been taken off the schedule by Hallmark as producers try to come up with “creative solutions” for Loughlin’s Abigail Station character. While the actress who is indicted in the elite college bribery scheme is fired from the show, the series developed by Michael Landon Jr. based on Janette Oake’s books is absolutely not canceled, I hear.
However, all options are being explored on how to take the already-filmed episodes of Heart forward without Loughlin, one source says.
The impetus to keep Heart going makes absolute sense when you consider that last week’s Season 6 debut of the small-town drama was the highest-rated premiere in the series’ history.

From director Michael Landon Jr., The Ultimate Life is the sequel to The Ultimate Gift, and I have a giveaway to get your ready for the September 6th theatrical release. Jason Stevens feels like his life is coming apart, but walking alongside his grandfather (by way of the diary he finds) makes him take stock, and wonder if he can manage the ultimate life.

My favorite line from this trailer: “The blood and guts fly out….the camera does not stop rolling!”…Well, let’s hope not!
The movie’s lead actor, who is slicing his way through more than half-naked nubile bodies is Bill Oberst Jr. If you were at the screening of the St. Louis-lensed shocker Coyote last month at Mx Theater, you saw that film’s star Mr. Oberst who is currently swinging for the title of “Hardest Working Man In Horror” with no less than twelve major roles in independent horror films this year. Bill’s most famous role was as honest Abe in Abraham Lincoln Vs Zombies (2012), which, though not quite as good as Abe Lincoln Vampire Hunter, was far superior than that boring-ass Speilberg movie.
The Los Angeles-based actor has just arrived in the woods of Kentucky to start shooting his 6th feature film of the year (The...

After the ratings for The Bible convinced producers that maybe this Christianity thing has legs, a new miniseries is already in the works based on its breakout character, Jesus. The Hollywood Reporter says that Brian Bird and Michael Landon Jr., son of earthly appointed angel Michael Landon, are readying their own Jesus Of Nazareth, a six-hour, $20 million show that will share with the world a story that it’s never heard before, unless you count millennia’s worth of gospels, church sermons, missions, the occasional crusade, and various videos hosted by Kirk Cameron. However, Landon says their version will ...

A version of this story first appeared in the April 5 issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine. Will the success of The Bible foretell a slew of religious-themed movies and TV projects? Already in the works is Jesus of Nazareth, a six-hour, $20 million miniseries from production outfit Mpca. “We believe the audience continues to have a hunger for life- and faith-affirming films,” says Michael Landon Jr., who is writing and producing the new version of Jesus of Nazareth with Brian Bird for Brad Krevoy’s Mpca. “The monumental success of Mark Burnett and Roma Downey’s The

The Velveteen Rabbit
Stars: Jane Seymour, Tom Skerritt, Ellen Burstyn, Matthew Harbour, Kevin Jubinville, Michael Sinelnikoff | Written by Michael Landon Jr. & Cindy Kelley | Directed by Michael Landon Jr.
Having never read the Velveteen Rabbit story this adaptation is based on, or seen any other film or television version, I was somewhat interested to see what all the fuss was about; obviously this is a story well worth adapting as it is done so frequently. In this version, a young boy (Matthew Harbour) is left to his own devices in his strict grandmother’s (Jane Seymour) house and retreats into a fantasy world of his own creation, populated by animated toys long forgotten by their previous owners, including the titular rabbit.
This blend of live-action and animation seemed promising to me at first, being a huge fan of Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, but unfortunately The Velveteen Rabbit doesn’t possess nearly...

Bill Oberst Jr. is the definition of “the horror actor”, the working actor doesn’t prefer anything outside of the horror genre and wouldn’t have it any other way. Oberst has some cool projects in the works including Vivid and Legend of the Red Reaper, he shares some stories about working on True Blood and MTV’s upcoming horror series Death Valley. The actor keeps busy for sure! Check out my latest Versus with Bill Oberst Jr. to learn more about this hard working cool actor.
Brian S- First off you've really been cranking out film projects since 2007. How'd you get into acting?
Bill Oberst Jr.- I was a bizarre-looking kid who loved monsters and the other kids made fun of me. I learned a useful equation: "If You Entertain People, They Will Not Hit You." So my whole career has pretty much been about trying to get people not to hit me.

It's a terrible weekend for movie fans, as the only two new wide releases are a Jonas Brothers concert movie and a film based on the Street Fighter video games. So basically, if you're not a 13-year-old girl or an 18-year-old guy (or whoever the target audience is for a Street Fighter movie), you're hosed -- unless you venture to the art houses and independent theaters, where you'll find some diversity. The Indie Spotlight has the lowdown on what's opening in limited release today. Let us begin!
Crossing Over (pictured), a multi-story drama about immigration from The Cooler writer/director Wayne Kramer, stars Harrison Ford, Ray Liotta, and Ashley Judd, among many others. The critics are comparing it to Crash and Babel, and not in a good way. It's opening on about a dozen screens in New York and L.A., and will expand in the coming weeks. An American Affair...

With all eyes on the upcoming Academy Awards (not to mention the Spirit Awards, the afternoon before), it's a relatively quiet week at the box office. There are some bubblegum high school antics, a couple of documentaries about the dysfunctional, a children's literary classic and a somber drama set during WWII. Take heart, we're nearly over the hump.

20th Century Fox Home Entertainment said Tuesday that it is reaching out to Christians with FoxFaith, a new label that will market DVDs aimed at the faith-based audience. It also will release some of the films in theaters. It will distribute at least six -- and possibly as many as a dozen -- of the movies theatrically each year, beginning with Michael Landon Jr.'s Love's Abiding Joy, based on the fourth novel in Janette Oke's Love Comes Softly series about a 19th century frontier family. Joy will be released Oct. 6 on 230-240 screens in 90 markets through such circuits as Carmike Theatres, AMC and some regional chains. While the films will be supported with $5 million marketing campaigns that will encompass local TV, newspapers, direct mail and grass-roots efforts, they will not be distributed through 20th Century Fox's theatrical apparatus but will be released through the Bigger Picture, a subsidiary of Woodland Hills-based Sabella Dern Entertainment, which specializes in the digital delivery of alternative content.
