Exclusive: Sony Pictures Television has finalized a new licensing deal with Paramount Global for comedy series The King of Queens to continue to be available on Paramount linear cable networks. The new pact also includes for the first time streaming rights on Paramount+ for all nine seasons and on Pluto TV for some (currently Seasons 1-3).
Paramount Global would not specify which linear networks will be carrying The King Of Queens. The sitcom has been running on the company’s TV Land and CMT.
Sony TV took The King of Queens out a year ago, offering rights across all linear and digital platforms starting in April 2024. The new pact with Paramount Global kicked in at the start of the month, with the show already available on Paramount+ and Pluto TV.

When the House Energy & Commerce subcommittee meets on Wednesday for an oversight hearing titled “A Shot At Normalcy: Building Covid-19 Vaccine Confidence,” one of the witnesses will be none other than Nick Offerman, identified as an “actor and woodworker.”
The former Parks & Recreation star, who played Libertarian Ron Swanson, will have a unique perspective on reaching the vaccine resistant.
“Ignorance is an area in which I can claim some authority, and it is from that perch I would like to communicate why it’s extremely important that we all get vaccinated,” Offerman plans to say, according to prepared remarks, which otherwise are geared to his experience during the Covid-19 crisis.
It underscores a bit of a new front breaking through the media and misinformation clutter to reach the vaccine hesitant.

When Newsmax decided to do a segment on Elon Musk’s hosting gig on Saturday Night Live over the weekend, it booked comedy writer and speechwriter David Litt.
But Litt, who worked in the Obama White House, quickly tried to steer the interview into The Big Lie, or the unfounded claims that the 2020 presidential election was stolen by Donald Trump.
Rob Finnerty, anchor of Newsmax’s Wake Up America, started by asking, “What did you think of Elon Musk’s performance? This is the first time since 2015 that we’ve had a non athlete, non entertainer on the show. The last person to do that and do well with great ratings, our former president Donald Trump.”
Litt answered, “Well Rob, it’s a great question. What happened on SNL this weekend is that people made stuff up and then said it on television like it is true. And that happens pretty frequently in American TV.

Looking for a cheap space to get some work done? “Broad City” creators and actors Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson have a solution: “SheWork,” an outdoor urban work space not to be confused with real-life workplace company WeWork.
In a season five episode of “Broad City,” Glazer’s character devised “SheWork” as a smoker-friendly outdoor office that she charges people to use.
On the streets of Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood, Glazer and Jacobson on Tuesday hosted a mock-up “SheWork” event using “Broad City” props to bring the vision to life. Glazer and Jacobson used the pop-up to campaign for Emmy noms and to connect with fans of the show, which completed its final season on March 28. The event was complete with snacks, free WiFi, complementary selfies and even a little late-spring rain.
When asked about WeWork’s reaction to the spoof, Jacobson and Glazer said they haven’t heard anything.

Ten years ago, Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer wrote themselves a web series about their close friendship and the glorious paradox of being dirtbag ladies in New York City. With Jacobson playing the game Mary Tyler Moore character to Glazer’s wilder Rhoda, “Broad City” was frank, incisive and, most of all, funny as hell. But it still took years for the idea of a TV version to catch on at a network that understood their vision and the apparently confusing concept that there could be more than one show about women on TV — or per broadcaster.
“We were forever compared to ‘Girls,’ which is understandable if you haven’t seen either show,” Jacobson deadpanned recently over breakfast in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, tucked in a booth alongside Glazer. “At Fox, it was like, ‘We already have “New Girl.”’ That was a real sentence!”
But the two knew they had something special.

Perhaps you’re already aware, but the main pair of best friends on “Broad City” sure do run a lot. In announcing the release date for the start of Season 5 early next year, Comedy Central whipped up a montage of Abbi and Ilana jogging, sprinting, and otherwise hitching on the back of moving vehicles across New York over the course of the show’s first 40 episodes.
Even though it cuts off right before the greatest poultry kick in television history, it’s still a solid overview of the energy that’s run through what became a cornerstone show for the network. To help commemorate the occasion, Abbi Jacobson, Ilana Glazer, and assorted fan favorites from the show’s ensemble took to Instagram to help deliver the news that the show’s final season will be arriving in the new year on January 24.

“Broad City” will end after its fifth season next year, Comedy Central said Thursday.
The network also announced a first-look deal with the comedy’s creators, Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson, both together and independently. The deal extends to Comedy Central’s parent company Viacom’s television networks. There are three projects currently in development under this deal: “Mall Town USA,” “Platinum Status,” and “Young Professionals.”
“‘Broad City’s Abbi and Ilana may appear to be aimless and full of hair-brained schemes, but Abbi and Ilana Irl have proven to be stellar creator/writer/performer/director/producers,” said Comedy Central’s president Kent Alterman. “Their supreme focus on telling new stories, in new worlds, with new talent is nearly scary.”

“‘Broad City’ has been our baby and first love for almost ten years, since we started as a web series. It’s been a phenomenal experience, and we’ve put ourselves into it completely,” said Glazer and Jacobson. “‘Broad City’s always had a spontaneous pace and feeling, and ending after season five honors that spirit. We are very excited to bring new voices and points of view to Comedy Central and continue our collaboration together in new ways.”
See Comedy Central’s description of the three new projects below.
Mall Town USA: Mall Town USA is an animated comedy that follows the afterschool misadventures of a 13-year-old girl navigating the complexities of life in the classic microcosm of American culture that is The Mall. Mall Town USA is written and created by Gabe Liedman (Broad City, Brooklyn Nine-Nine) and executive produced by Jacobson and Glazer.

Platinum Status: Set in the hipster-heavy east side of Los Angeles, Platinum Status tells the story of professional back-up singer Noah (Eliot Glazer), a gay guy who’s always felt left out of the “community.” And after he’s dumped by his boyfriend of ten years, Noah rebounds in the least likely way: by hooking up with a girl. With help from his friends Kevin and Mimi and guidance from his kinda-sorta-girlfriend Alexa, Noah tries to evolve both in the bedroom and the recording studio. Eliot Glazer will write and executive produce and Ilana Glazer will also executive produce along with Principato Young’s Peter Principato and Brian Steinberg and Electric Avenue’s Will Arnett and Marc Forman.
Young Professionals: At age twenty-four, David Litt became one of the youngest White House speechwriters in history. Described as the “comic muse for the president,” Litt served as the lead writer for many of President Obama’s most memorable comedic moments, and his recent memoir, Thanks, Obama, is a New York Times best seller. Inspired by Litt’s coming-of-age in our nation’s capital, Young Professionals follows five housemates growing up – personally, politically, and professionally – in the hopelessly absurd world of Washington, D.C. Young Professionals is written by and executive produced by Litt, with Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer also serving as executive producers.

“Broad City” is coming to an end, but Comedy Central is keeping its creators and stars in the fold.

The renewal is part of a new first-look agreement that will keep the Viacom-owned cable channel in business with the comedy duo as they draw the show that elevated their careers to a close and well after.

With an election year upon us, Funny or Die is positioning itself as a prime source of political comedy. The studio has hired David Litt, a former speechwriter for President Barack Obama, as the head writer for its Washington, D.C. team.
Don’t let the serious nature of Litt’s former position fool you--Litt has a lot of comedy chops. He has previously written for The Onion and McSweeney’s, and the speeches he wrote for Obama included the President’s last four addresses at the annual White House Correspondent’s Dinner. At the 2015 dinner, Obama’s remarks included a sketch based around Keegan-Michael Key’s Luther the Anger Translator character, with Key himself showing up and playing along.
From Funny or Die’s D.C. office, which opened last April, Litt will spearhead both branded and unbranded projects. From now until November, viewers can expect a plethora of videos targeted at politically-conscious audiences.

Meera Rohit Kumbhani got a series lead on Fox’s upcoming “Weird Loners” after submitting a self-taped audition. The New York-based actor had been working in indie film, off-Broadway theater and in regional play productions like “The Who & the What” at southern California’s La Jolla Playhouse. “We weren’t specifically looking for stage experience,” Michael Weithorn, the show’s creator, told Backstage. In fact, they considered casting Priyanka Chopra, a Bollywood actor and former Miss World for the role of Zara. Instead they chose Kumbhani on the strength of an audition that looked like “she taped it in her agent’s office,” said Weithorn, who has a history of handing actor’s a break. He gave comedian Patton Oswalt his network debut on “King of Queens,” a series he co-created with David Litt, and was also a writer on “Family Ties,” which was Michael J. Well, that dream deferred is ostensibly occurring: Arnold is set to star in Cmt's untitled David Litt comedy about a hardware store owner and family man who is a "salt-of-the-earth kind of guy, good-hearted, eager-to-please, optimistic, but sometimes overwhelmed by the chaos around him." Exclusive: Cmt is getting another familiar name from its roster of unscripted series hosts to headline one of its first four scripted pilot presentations. Tom Arnold has been tapped to star in the untitled David Litt multi-camera comedy, a multi-generational show about a man (Arnold) seeking the empty nest and his family who is unwilling to let him have it. Arnold’s character Joe Herman, the owner of a hardware store, is described as “salt-of-the-earth kind of guy, good-hearted, eager-to-please, optimistic, but sometimes overwhelmed by the chaos around him.” Litt wrote the script and is executive producing with Gene Stein and Nina Wass. Exclusive: Cmt (Country Music Television) is making a big push in scripted comedy with four pilot presentation orders. Producer-director Barry Sonnenfeld is setting shop at ABC, closing in on a two-year, first-look deal with the network and ABC Studios.
Under the pact, Sonnenfeld will develop projects for ABC and will direct a pilot for the network during pilot season, while being available to helm pilots for other nets off-cycle.
Under the ABC/ABC Studios deal, Sonnenfeld already has teamed with former ABC executive-turned-producer Stu Bloomberg for a high-concept multicamera project.
The untitled comedy, from writer Laura House, has received a script commitment. It centers on a harried mom who finds a suit that turns her into a "supermom" when she puts it on.
Bloomberg and Sonnenfeld are executive producing, with Sonnenfeld also attached to direct.
One of ABC's new fall comedy series, "The Middle," stars Patricia Heaton as a harried mom who, in the pilot, dons a Super Woman costume for a school show-and-tell.
