- Murray Louis was born on November 4, 1926 in Brooklyn, New York, USA. He was an actor, known for Totem (1963), Los Cuentos de Cri Cri (1984) and Camera Three (1955). He died on February 1, 2016 in New York City, New York, USA.
- He received two Guggenheim fellowships, and grants from the Rockefeller, Mellon, and Ford foundations. He was a Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters of the French government.
- During WWII, he worked for the Office of Naval Intelligence in San Francisco. After the war, he stayed in San Francisco and studied dance. He eventually danced in productions of choreographer Alwin Nikolais in New York. He found time to study speech and theater at New York University. He moved into choreography, and in 1953 he established his own dance company.
- He staged works for the Royal Danish Ballet, the Hamburg Ballet, the Scottish Ballet, the Limón Dance Company, and the Batsheva Dance Company.
