The Royal Opera, London Philharmonic Orchestra and Curve present the world premiere of Ravi Shankar’s only opera Sukanya which tours venues across the UK in May 2017. With a libretto by Amit Chaudhuri, the semi-staged opera is directed by Suba Das and conducted by David Murphy, with soprano Susanna Hurrell in the title role, bass-baritone Keel Watson, Brazilian baritone Michel de Souza, the BBC Singers and the full force of a 60-strong London Philharmonic Orchestra. The Orchestra is supplemented with Indian classical instruments including the sitar, shennai, tabla, mridangam and ghatam. The innovative Aakash Odedra Company provide the choreography and dancers and Tony Award-winning 59 Productions are providing production design.
Shankar was composing his pioneering opera Sukanya at the time of his passing, an opera exploring the common ground between the music, dance and theatrical traditions of India and the West. Conductor and collaborator David Murphy – who worked with Shankar for many years,...

A popular casting director workshop run by David Murphy abruptly closed this week, leaving actors fretting over refunds for prepaid classes. The Bridge, which dubs itself “the Los Angeles area's premier new casting director workshop,” had events scheduled as recently as Monday. But the event was canceled at the last minute and students were informed by email late that night that the school had closed permanently. Murphy promised to issue refunds to students. “After several years of operation, we've unfortunately decided that we need to close our doors,” Murphy said in the email. “As such, our August workshops were our last. To receive a refund for your remaining credit (only credit you've paid for—credits received as referral or other bonuses will not be refunded), please email.” The workshop had been a moveable feast before settling into its most recent Burbank location in April. It received high marks on Yelp...

The first trailer for the long-gestating RoboCop reboot has arrived. The film, from director Jose Padilha, stars Joel Kinnaman as police officer Alex James Murphy, who is turned into a mostly machine crime fighter after being injured by a car bomb. Unlike in the 1987 Paul Verhoeven original, Murphy is still alive when he's turned into RoboCop, though he's suffered burns over 85 percent of his body. In addition to RoboCop blowing stuff up and fighting crime, the trailer also shows him interacting with his wife (Abbie Cornish) and son (David Murphy), and features plenty of co-stars (Michael

Volkswagen has unveiled its most important product launch of the year with a campaign for the small car, Volkswagen Up!.
Created by Ddb Sydney, a TV campaign will be supported by street furniture, print executions, a microsite and web banners which will run nationally.
Nick Pringle, creative director at Ddb Sydney commented: “Working on the launch of the up! was a huge opportunity but also a challenge, because small cars have such a negative perception in Australia. The phrase ʻtin can on wheelsʼ springs to mind. Who better to tell our story than a lovable old-timer who believes that heʼs being driven in a big car, such is the quality of the new up!.”
Jutta Friese, Gm Marketing of Volkswagen, said: “The launch of the Volkswagen up! is our most important product launch for the year as it marks our entry into the sub-light category. The up! sets a new...

Here are the top Feats of Strength accomplished in Major League Baseball on Thursday, June 14:
Kirk Nieuwenhuis: Mets rookie outfielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis homered twice and drove in three as the Mets completed an impressive sweep over the Tampa Bay Rays. The Rays had entered the series ten games over .500, the Mets three games over. But the Mets surprising start just keeps on going. Johan Santana was good enough over five innings to get the win, but it was the Mets sturdy bullpen that really got the job done, as it has all year long.
If the starting trio of Santana (4-3, 3.23 Era), R.A. Dickey (10-1, 2.20) and John Niese (4-2, 3.69) can keep it up, the Mets are getting contributions from so many young guys like Nieuwenhuis and David Murphy that they may just go ahead and keep contending deep into the summer.

Ddb has released a new ad for Arnott’s brand Tim Tam, which shows consumers picking the famous chocolate bars from trees at Martin Place.
The ad is based on an experiential event the Tim Tam “orchard”, which was erected a fortnight ago. The ad ends with the tag line ‘Truly, Madly Tim Tam’.
The campaign comes the week after Arnott’s parted ways with agency Gpy&R, awarding Ddb the entire account.
Leif Stromnes, MD for strategy and innovation at Ddb Group Sydney said: “The idea behind this first execution of Truly, Madly Tim Tam came straight from our Facebook community and we really wanted to give back to these fans who gave us such a great idea to work with. What better way to come full circle than to create personalised ads which feature the names of individual Tim Tam fans and actually run across both TV and...

Ddb has launched a press and poster campaign for its oldest client, Volkswagen.
The idea behind the ads is that any parking spot, no matter how precarious it may seem, is easy to negotiate with Vw’s Park Assist technology.
The ad series, entitled Nightmare Spots, was by creative team Steve Wakelam and Nick Pringle.
The ads will break from 18 April.
The Ecd behind the campaign was Dylan Harrison, who is responsible for Vw’s most awarded press campaign of all time – Cops – which he co-created while at Ddb London, with recent Ddb Sydney departee Simon Veksner.
Harrison told Mumbrella: “All good Vw ads are about how a product truth is translated into a human truth. Cops was about how the build rigidity of a Vw translated into how people behave around it. These ads are about how Vw’s automotive technology make people think differently about parking.”
He added:...

Birmingham City welcome Chelsea to St. Andrew’s tonight for the Fa Cup fifth-round replay where a winner must be decided on the night, extra time and penalties available if needed. Kick-off is at 7.45pm.
Birmingham manager Chris Hughton is facing a striker crisis with several key members of the squad unavailable for tonight’s cup match.
Defenders Stephen Carr (knee), David Murphy (hips), Steve Caldwell (ribs) are all sidelined, with Curtis Davies out with an illness. Peter Ramage is cup-tied for the match leaving Pablo Ibanez as the only fit senior centre-half.
In midfield it doesn’t get much easier with Keith Fahey (groin) injured and Andros Townsend cup-tied. Up front Erik Huseklepp is also cup-tied whilst Caleb Folan is ineligible to face his parent club Chelsea.
For Roberto Di Matteo’s first match in charge of Chelsea, defender Ashley Cole is a doubt after coming off in the weekend defeat at the Hawthorns.

David Murphy had an odd run on "Survivor: Redemption Island" this season. Described by many of his Zapatera teammates as a master of puzzles, we never saw him actually solve a puzzle. And although he wasn't a part of the Russell alliance, David became most passionate when waging an ill-fated campaign to save Stephanie (a teammate he'd previously vocally criticized when she was given puzzle-solving duties instead of him on a key task). And after weeks of seemingly unmotivated on-camera criticism for his job as a lawyer, it was maybe appropriate that David wound up being the first...

On the first "Good Wife" episode back from hiatus, Cary is the sneakiest sneak who ever sneaked (snuck?) and we love it. Also -- we knew Leelee Sobieski rocked and this just reaffirms it.
Case of the Week
Jonathan Murphy, son of a big client in the Murphy-Gomez case, got picked up for prescription stimulants. And so did his girlfriend of six months, Alexis, who can't afford a lawyer. Cary is the Asa assigned to it and he needs an ID of the drug dealer (who killed a pharmacist and is a lieutenant of recurring drug kingpin Lamont Bishop) and he'll cut a deal.
But it turns out there's no dealer, it's all a ploy to get Jonathan and Alexis to talk because they're actually the suspects in the pharmacist's murder. That sneaky Cary and the Da's office.
Speaking of sneaky Cary, the couple ID'd one of Lamont's crew ... who is already dead.

"Survivor: Redemption Island" reveals 16 out of 18 people who have joined the latest quest to win the title and a million dollar prize. Beside going with a new rule, this season has a number of stereotypes and "everybody you can imagine" as contestants.
Two castaways are still kept a secret but they are from the show's past seasons. Rumor has it, they would be Boston Rob Mariano ("Survivor: Marquesas", "Survivor: All-Stars" and "Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains") and Russell Hantz ("Survivor: Samoa" and "Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains"). The show traditionally has equal number between women and men, so with 9 women already revealed, it is most probable that the mystery castaways are of male.
"Survivor: Redemption Island" premieres Wednesday, February 16 at 8 P.M. Et/Pt on CBS. The voted off contestant won't immediately go home but is banished to redemption island where he or she would live alone until the next one is voted out.

Are Survivor favorites Rob Mariano and Russell Hantz headed back to the show... again?
Speculation about the inclusion of these veteran players has increased because CBS released the name of 16 cast members today for Survivor: Redemption Island. The mystery? There are 18 spots, and the two unfilled ones will go to men in order to balance out the genders.
While you ponder the possibility of another go-around with Rob and Russell, check out the confirmed cast members below. The new season kicks off on February 16.

"Survivor: Redemption Island" has just fueled the fire that Boston Rob Mariano and Russell Hantz are joining the cast this season. CBS has said that there are 18 cast members, but there are only 16 revealed so far on their site.
Furthermore, the show is always gender-equal and nine of the 16 are women, meaning if they add two surprise guests who are both male, there will be nine of each gender.
The Rob-Russell rumors started when both were featured at the finale for the last "Survivor," which was when CBS announced the "Redemption Island" twist.
Are you excited at the prospect of Rob and Russell facing off (or perhaps joining forces) on "Survivor"? We aren't sure how we feel about it. Their rivalry during "Heroes vs. Villains" wasn't that fun to watch, to be honest. But it sure would be fun to see them work together.

July 3, 2010: Indian sitar maestro Pt Ravi Shankar has presented his first ever symphony for a Western symphony orchestra, which is said to be his most ambitious work. It was performed by his daughter Anoushka Shankar and the London Philharmonic at the Royal Albert Hall, in London.
Written in Indian notation in 2010, the symphony has been interpreted by David Murphy, his student and conductor. The symphony is mostly inspired by the Indian classical music.
Shankar said, “I have transferred the spirit of the traditional Indian instruments to the Western instruments.”
Earlier, the sitar.

While there were talks that there will be at least eight "Saw" films, Patrick Melton believes the franchise will meet its end soon. Speaking to Matt Horn and David Murphy from U.K. radio show Demon FM, the screenwriter of "Saw IV", "Saw V", "Saw VI" and "Saw VII" says the upcoming seventh movie will mark the end of the franchise.
"I think it's going to end with 'Saw VII'. I have a very strong feeling its going to end with 'Saw VII'. That's something we're debating now," Melton states. He later reveals that the upcoming sequel will be known as "Endgame", saying "I don't own the franchise, nor do I run the studio, but I have a feeling, a strong feeling that it's going to be 'Saw VII' which will be also known as 'Endgame'. And nothing's official yet, but that's where we're hoping things will go.

I'm a big fan of the franchise, seeking the films out at every midnight opening and despite the fact that they focus on sadistic torture, I feel they are more character oriented than people realize. But the series has got progressively stale and with each new film you get the feeling the studio is robbing us blind and wants to run this franchise forever. Latest: A man has been charged for the murder of Ashton Kutcher's ex-girlfriend Ashley Ellerin - seven years after her death.
Michael Gargiulo, 32 - who has been behind bars since July after being arrested for an April knife attack - was formally charged with the murder of Ellerin and another woman on Thursday.
The 22-year-old's body was found in her Hollywood Hills home in February 2001.
Kutcher told police at the time of the incident that he had gone to pick up the fashion student/model from her home to attend a post-Grammy Awards party, but she failed to answer the door.
He said he left the property after checking a back window and spotting what he thought to be red wine stains on the carpet. Ellerin was found dead the following day by a friend.
Santa Monica police Lieutenant Darrell Lowe revealed last week (ends29Aug08) that DNA evidence collected from a crime scene earlier this year indicated that Gargiulo was responsible for the stabbings of women in Chicago, Illinois, Los Angeles, and Monterey Park, California. The Illinois murder dates back to 1993.
Garguilo has been held on $1.1 million (GBP628,571) bail for the last two months on attempted murder and burglary charges.
But Garguilo insists he is not guilty.
His attorneys Elana Goldstein and David Murphy tell website TMZ.com, "Our client vehemently denies all allegations against him and any involvement in any of these murders."
Kutcher, who is now married to Demi Moore, has so far refused to comment on the new developments.

Lionsgate has just acquired the rights to the novel Severance Package written by Duane Swierczynski and has hired Brett Simon to adapt. Simon will handle both the writing and directing duties, which is a great break for him. Why should you care about this? Simon also wrote and directed the greatest film no one has seen yet - Assassination of a High School President. Unfortunately the distributor pushed the release back until early next year, but it's one of the best films I saw at Sundance (and at SXSW after a second screening) and it has remained in my mind ever since. And when you hear the details of the story for this action comedy, you might be interested despite not being familiar with Simon's work anyway. "David Murphy, the CEO of a Philadelphia financial company, summons his seven staffers for an important Saturday meeting, where he informs them that...
