The latest documentary from Seth Breedlove and his Small Town Monsters production company, Bloodlines: The Jersey Devil Curse is a look at one of America’s lesser-known bits of folklore. Sure plenty of people have heard of it but unlike Bigfoot or even Mothman, few people seem to know anything about it. In fact, this is the first non-fiction film on the subject I can think of.
Directed by Breedlove and written by Jason Utes (Momo: The Missouri Monster), Bloodlines: The Jersey Devil Curse begins with several folklore experts giving a brief rundown on the creature. My favourite part of this is Dr. Brian Regal describing it as looking like “Pegasus at the end of a very bad meth addiction.”.

Saloon Media, a Blue Ant Media company, and Bullrush Pictures, are collaborating on half-hour workplace comedy “Hospital Show.” The series is an adaptation of the popular YouTube series of the same name, created by actor, writer and director Adam Greydon Reid, the founder of Bullrush Pictures.
“Hospital Show” is about the actors who play television’s most respected doctors on the fictional hit primetime medical drama “Critical Condition.” These actors may dispense miracle cures on television, but beneath the gleaming smiles and spotless white coats is a raging fire of high school politics, power trips and puerile shenanigans.
The web series won awards at Stareable Fest Australia’s Afin, the Florence Film Awards, the Canadian Cinematography Awards and the Leo Awards. The short form series has now been picked up by the Roku Channel where it’s streaming in the U.S., Canada and the U.K.

Steve Austin is quickly becoming this generation’s Steven Seagal. All of his movies are interchangeable, and if they didn’t have different titles, you’d probably think it was one continuous storyline spliced together by someone who doesn’t really understand how movies operate. Be that as it may, I’ve watched all of Austin’s flicks, including that hideous feel-good family drama “Knockout”. Maybe that’s why my cinematic radar twitched a bit when I saw the trailer for the upcoming direct-to-video actioner “Recoil”, which co-stars Danny Trejo, another actor who isn’t too discriminating when it comes to scripts. That’s no criticism, mind you, as I find Trejo to be endlessly entertaining, even when the movie he stars in is less than spectacular. Here’s a quick, one sentence synopsis: A cop turns vigilante after his family is murdered, exacting vengeance on the killers – and then...

The Vancouver International Film Festival is my baby. In its 29th year, this is the event I look forward to every year. The lists I've kept through the year come out and I eagerly look through the list of titles in search of those little gems and every year Viff responds with a huge assortment of titles. This year's festival is no different.
Some of the titles we're most eagerly anticipating include Tsumetai Nettaigyo’s Cold Fish (trailer), Gareth Edwards’ Monsters (trailer, review), Jo Sung-Hee’s apocalyptic road movie End of Animal, Carl Bessai’s Repeaters (trailer) and Xavier Dolan's Heartbeats (trailer, review).
There's loads more so be sure to check the titles (so far) after the break. Many more to be announced in the coming days.
