“The Crown” could well bow out in style on home soil, with the final outing of the show leading the list of nominees for the 2024 BAFTA TV and TV Craft awards, announced Wednesday.
Netflix’s hit royal drama — which came to an end last year after six seasons — landed eight nominations in total, including for Dominic West, Elizabeth Debecki, Lesley Manville and Salim Daw in the performance categories. However, it missed out for drama series (an award it has been nominated for three times previously).
Just behind “The Crown” and also a Netflix production, the apocalyptic “Black Mirror” episode “Demon 79” earned seven nominations, including limited drama and leading actress for Anjana Vasan.
Further down in a tight group of frontrunners, BBC dramas “Happy Valley” and “The Sixth Commandment and Apple TV+’s “Slow Horses” each have six nominations. Sarah Lancashire’s leading actress nomination for “Happy Valley” could see...

The Crown’s swansong season has dominated the BAFTA TV nominations, picking up eight in a record year for Netflix.
Although it missed out in the coveted Drama Series category, four of the Netflix royal smash’s actors were handed nods today including Dominic West, who played Prince Charles, and Elizabeth Debicki, who was Princess Diana. Salim Daw and Lesley Manville are the other two nominated actors and actresses, while The Crown also received nominations in the likes of costume design, make up and sound.
Netflix achieved a record haul and was second only to the BBC with nominations, comfortably eclipsing stalwarts ITV and Channel 4 as Top Boy and Black Mirror were also rewarded.
Although not its most critically-rated season, Peter Morgan’s royal saga ended late last year with a bang and plenty controversy, and the noms come amid the ongoing Kate Middleton saga.

Apple TV+ is shifting up its rollout strategy for Slow Horses Season 3, and it means we'll be getting new episodes sooner.
As revealed Tuesday morning, the highly-anticipated next chapter of the Gary Oldman drama will now premiere on Wednesday, November 29, 2023.
It was previously revealed that new episodes would air beginning December 1, 2023, so we're getting them two days earlier.
Apple TV+ has been experimenting with rolling out shows earlier in the week, and it worked very well for Ted Lasso Season 3, so we're inclined to believe this will be a good thing for this hit drama series.
We also got our first look at Slow Horses Season 3 today, with Apple TV+ sharing the official trailer.
If there's one thing we know about Slow Horses, it's that the series features a lot of talented individuals, and that will continue.
The next chapter is adapted from "Real Tigers," the third novel in...

When Catherine Standish (Saskia Reeves) is kidnapped by rogue MI5 agents, it’s up to her fellow Slow Horse agents to save her in the first trailer for Season 3 of “Slow Horses.”
Apple TV+ released the preview on Tuesday for the British spy show, which returns with the first two episodes of Season 3 on Nov. 29. A new episode premieres every Wednesday through Dec. 27.
“I need a team of good agents, but I just have the Slow Horses,” laments slovenly senior agent Jackson Lamb (Gary Oldman), who never misses a chance to crack wise, even when lives are on the line.
Later in the clip, River Cartwright (Jack Lowden) calls from a besieged warehouse to tell Lamb, “There are men outside with guns. Some backup might be handy.”
Lamb’s nonchalant reply, “Well, I’m busy.”
Responds a frustrated Cartwright, “Ok, thanks, I’m sure the situation will resolve itself.”

Gary Oldman's thrilling drama Slow Horses will be back on the air before the end of the year.
The next chapter is adapted from "Real Tigers," the third novel in the Cwa Gold Dagger Award-winning Mick Herron spy series "Slough House."
The six-episode third season of Slow Horses will premiere globally on Friday, December 1, with the first two episodes followed by one new episode weekly, every Friday through December 29, on Apple TV+.

In the third instalment of Herron’s literary series, titled “Real Tigers,” Donovan is also revealed to have a romantic link to one of the main ensemble, although it’s unknown how closely the screen adaptation will follow the books.

Principal photography is getting underway Monday on Studiocanal and Heyday Films’ The Secret Garden with Colin Firth and Julie Walters starring. As Deadline revealed in January, Marc Munden is directing the new take on the classic children’s novel.
Jack Thorne adapted the book for the big screen and has moved the story to a slightly later period, removing it from the Edwardian era to 1947, on the eve of Partition in India, and in the aftermath of WW2 in Britain.
Set in England and based on Frances Hodgson Burnett’s 1911 book, The Secret Garden tells the story of Mary Lennox (Dixie Egerickx — Genius), a prickly and unloved 10-year-old girl, born in India to wealthy British parents who never wanted her. When her parents suddenly die, she is sent back to England to live with her uncle, Archibald Craven (Firth), on his remote country estate deep in the Yorkshire moors. There,...

Check out the official trailer for Amma Asante’s Belle starring Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Sam Reid, Tom Wilkinson, Emily Watson, Tom Felton, Miranda Richardson and Matthew Goode.
Scheduled for a May 2014 release, the film was shown at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival to positive reviews.
Justin Chang (Variety): “The pleasures of Jane Austen and the horrors of the British slave trade make a surprisingly elegant fit in Amma Asante’s handsome period piece.” John Oursler (Sound on Sight): “Amma Asante’s Belle, a new entrant in the genre, strikes all the right notes.” John DeFore (The Hollywood Reporter): “Moviegoers should respond well when Fox Searchlight brings it to theaters next spring.”
I can’t wait to see this. Being a fan of period-piece dramas, Belle looks to be the perfect blend of courage, love and history.

December of 1984, AIDS was ravaging New York’s artistic community. When stage manager Jane Neufeld bumped into actor Arne Gundersen on a street corner that month, the conversation quickly, naturally turned to the epidemic that was stealing the lives of so many of their friends—and that the American mainstream had yet to embrace as a force worth fighting. The two theater professionals also happened to be members of Actors’ Equity Association’s executive council. They wondered what, if anything, their union could do to advance the cause of combating the disease. Then, like good union officers, they formed a committee. Neufeld and Gundersen joined with actors Patrick Quinn and Judy Rice and stage manager Jane Robertson to begin laying the groundwork for what would become Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. Since its formal founding in 1988, the organization has raised more than $225 million to provide services to the critically ill.
