Since the days of Walter Payton, Franco Harris, and Barry Sanders, the Running Back has evolved into one of the best if not the best athlete on the field today. A combination of speed, power, and agility are characteristics of the best running backs on the professional and college level today. Some of the most prolific players in football history excelled as Heisman Trophy winners and NFL MVPs, without them, football would be a much different sport than we know it as today.
Here are five of the best Running Backs in College Football who will leave defenses in the dust in 2014:
Honorable Mentions:
Travis Greene, Bowling Green (279 carries, 1,594 yards, 11 TDs)
-The former Wide Receiver found his calling in the backfield for the Falcons in 2013, rushing for 1,594 yards, good for 11th nationally and 2nd in the Mid American Conference this year.

It used to be easy to get away with hating a popular movie, but marketing and spoilers have made it harder than ever to escape
We've all been there. Saturday night at the movies. You're in your favorite seat. Miraculously, you didn't eat all your chocolate raisins during the trailers. The audience around you are having the time of their life: whoops and hollers fill the air.
But for some reason – the dialogue, the bad CGI, the way the hero keeps developing the exact superpowers he needs to get him out of the particular mess he happens to find himself in – you're not enjoying yourself.
Afterwards, you dissect the movie with your friends only to find, to your horror, that they liked it, too. In fact, they loved it. They thought it was the best thing to happen to them since Trinity ran up a wall and scissor-kicked that cop in The Matrix.

It's not exactly breaking news that Nickelback tend to elicit a certain level of, uh, acrimony from music fans (perhaps they've never heard "Bottoms Up"?), but up until now, we thought they were pretty cool with fans of the Detroit Lions.
Apparently not. For years, the dulcet tones of Hank Williams Jr.'s "All My Rowdy Friends" welcomed America to another Monday night of football. In fact, the theme song became one of those iconic pairings of TV and music, a la "Cheers" or "Saved by the Bell." It was re-recorded year after year and probably made Williams Jr. a truckload of money. We all thought it would never end, and life was good.
But then Hank Williams Jr. just had to talk politics (he's a right-winger. Surprise!) and compare Obama to Hitler. And thus, the dream was instantly dead. So who would Mnf get to replace the iconic singer? Garth Brooks? U2? The Black Eyed Peas?
Nah. They got former Detroit Lions running back Barry Sanders.
Thankfully, Barry Sanders won't be doing some strange remix of the "Super Bowl Shuffle." According to reports, he'll be featured in a video segment that previews the game.

Acclaimed director Steven Soderbergh is set to make a movie about male strippers starring Channing Tatum. Ordinarily, this, in and of itself, would be the noteworthy element of the story, but considering the helmer went on Rich Eisen's podcast a few months back and claimed he was retiring, this little double talk wrinkle probably takes precedence. The original claim, made in January, was widely questioned at the time, despite the fact that it came from the director himself. People not named Barry Sanders just don't really up and retire when they still have more to give, at least not usually, but at the end of the day, I'll take some contradictions from a great director if it means at least one more wonderful film, even if it's about male strippers. Titled Magic Mike, it draws on Channing Tatum's own history as a male stripper, though unlike in real life,...

For the moment, they have Will Ferrell hired for a multiepisode arc as Deangelo Vickers, the new Dunder Mifflin (Sabre) branch manager. Other names in the final episode, and possible contenders for the permanent gig, include Jim Carrey, Ricky Gervais, Will Arnett, James Spader, Ray Romano and Catherine Tate. (Time starts from when she starts saying “Brave” until her the note ends. If she says the full word twice wagers will be No Action.) Over 6 seconds: -140 Under 6 seconds: Even Bet: Under. This is a classic prop bet where the odds are clearly titled towards the more fun/ridiculous option to bet; it’s amusing to bet money that Christina Aguilera will hold a note for a stupidly long amount of time, but is anyone actually...

Out of all the video game to movie adaptations we've been seeing as of late, this has got to be one of the weirdest. In fact, if we weren't in the middle of December, I would probably assume this was an early April Fool's joke. According to The Wrap [1], EA is planning a movie based on their long running, wildly successful Madden football game franchise. While that might not be so weird in itself, the premise is not about an underdog football team that wins a championship thanks to the coaching of John Madden. Instead, it will be a comedy about the "Madden Curse", the so-called jinx that brings misfortune to the athlete who adorns the cover of each year's game. Don't believe in the curse? Check out this complete list of Madden cover athletes and the accidents that have befallen them: 1999: Garrison Hearst -- Broke his fibula in...

Electronic Arts is developing "Madden Curse," a sports comedy based on the curse that many believe strikes NFL players who appear on the cover of the company's popular "Madden" video game. The story will follow a former "Madden" video game champion who is forced out of retirement just as he finds himself on the corner of the game's cover -- and subject to the curse. Here is a recap of the curse: * In 1999, the cover featured Garrison Hearst, who broke his fibula in the Nfc divisional playoffs. * In 2000, the cover featured Barry Sanders, who retired before the season. A new cover was then released with Dorsey Levens, who then injured his knee and never returned as a starter. * In 2001, the cover featured Eddie George, whose career ended a year later. * In 2002, the cover featured Dante Culpepper, who then suffered a season-ending knee injury. * In 2003, the cover featured Marshall Faulk, who...

Each and every year, the Madden NFL series is one of the top selling video games. The highly realistic football simulator has been been a console staple for the better part of two decades and is the closest a gamer can get to actually being on the gridiron, both as a player or a coach. Over the decades though, while gamers took control of their favorite NFL teams virtually, the actual players on the cover of the game were getting injured in reality. This strange phenomenon became known as the Madden Curse and while it hasn't taken its toll on Madden NFL 2011 cover boy quarterback Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints (above), it still has an impressive, and eerie, track record. Several athletes have acknowledged the curse and now the company behind the Madden NFL series, Electronic Arts, are doing more than acknowledging it. They're hoping to profit from it.

He's not had the chance to moonwalk out of his grave before Kenny Ortega has decided to once again agitate the corpse of Michael Jackson for some more cinematic dollars. Apparently, they've come up with the plan to turn the video for "Thriller" into a feature film. It's supposed to be written by Jeremy Garelick, who wrote The Hangover, and according to Deadline, it's going to deal with "Vincent Price and the folklore around the song." Stick with the dick jokes and baby masturbation, Jg.
A Michael Jackson video was always a cinematic unveiling. They were always fifteen hours long and involved sequences that had nothing to do with the song. Do you remember the video for "Thriller"? He turned into a werewolf and tackled his fiancee/steady girlfriend, but it all turned out to be a Vincent Price movie and then he chased her down and turned into a breakdancing zombie,...

The Twilight Of The Festival by Barry A. Sanders The final notes of Gotterdammerung sounded on Saturday evening. Fittingly, the Wagner Society of Southern California presented the final Ring Festival La symposium on Sunday at the Goethe Institute while Highways Performance Space in Santa Monica closed the Festival with collision/theory in a new multi-media performance of The Nibelungenlied. The Opera's performances were as beautiful and exciting as we had hoped during all the years of their preparation. People went repeatedly. Ticket sales, which had lagged before the performances began, burgeoned on the word of mouth from the audiences at the first of the three cycles. The Festival engaged the entire city and met our expectations by tearing down the walls that have separated the abundance of cultural and educational institutions in Los Angeles, and inviting everyone in the city to participate in...

Gerard Butler's tongue will not be denied -- and last night, it penetrated yet another oral cavity ... in record time. With rumors swirling that he's dating his "Bounty Hunters" co-star Jennifer Aniston, Butler hit the streets of Venice Beach yesterday and exercised his legendary chick-pulling-skills on someone who clearly wasn't Jennifer ... someone with a violin. Mere moments after he stopped to chat to her -- Butler was in full-on makeout mode. Then, like a...

Aspiring new media content producers, irreverent auteurs, fans of laughing, and sun-deprived online video junkies (like me!) who need a compelling reason to get out of the apartment and socially interact, this Wednesday’s Channel 101 screening in New York is the event for you. The monthly, five-minute film festival where the unfunny shows get voted off the island will be screening in front of a live, evocative audience from its fancy pants new digs at the 92YTribeca. As if the opportunity to meet the creators of some of online video’s most wonderfully obscure programs and watch their wares isn’t reason enough to attend, this screening is extra-super special. Both the perennial classic The Defenders of Stan and high-octane, shears-toting, law enforcement thrill ride Scissor Cop are scheduled to self-cancel. That means that after a respective 19 months and 6 months atop Channel 101 NY’s Prime Time, both series will air an extra-awesome,...
