A partnership with Melissa McCarthy — one of the defining comic talents of the past 10-plus years — might seem like the sort of thing a streamer would want to spotlight and celebrate. So it’s surprising that “God’s Favorite Idiot,” a new comedy series on Netflix, dropped without ever been having made available to critics in advance.
Surprising, that is, to those without familiarity with the breadth of McCarthy’s oeuvre. In addition to highs like “Bridesmaids,” “Spy,” and “Can You Ever Forgive Me?,” the performer has made an escalatingly disastrous series of movies directed by her husband Ben Falcone, including “The Boss,” “Life of the Party,” and “Superintelligence.” Falcone and McCarthy’s creative partnership makes a crystalline case for allowing someone from outside the family into the making of art; together, their work is slackly paced and meagerly plotted. “God’s Favorite Idiot,” created by Falcone (with both spouses credited as...

You're going to be craving a hot cup of coffee from Luke's Diner after this news! Gilmore Girls alums Melissa McCarthy and Yanic Truesdale star alongside each other in Netflix's new series, God's Favorite Idiot. And while we're happy we got this mini Sookie and Michel on-screen reunion, we couldn't help but wonder which former cast member they'd like to see in a potential second season of the comedy. So which Stars Hallow resident would they pick? None other than the Gilmore matriarch herself, Kelly Bishop. "A cast member I'd like to come in season two," Yanic said in an E! News exclusive interview. "Kelly Bishop." And Melissa agrees,...

What if the fate of the world depended on a mid-level tech support employee? That’s the question of Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone’s new Netflix comedy, God’s Favorite Idiot. Falcone’s Clark realizes that God has bigger plans for him once he starts glowing. Along with his crush Amily (McCarthy), their coworkers, and angelic allies, he must outwit Satan herself (Leslie Bibb). The series also serves as a Gilmore Girls reunion of sorts as Yanic Truesdale (Michel Gerard!) stars alongside his former Dragonfly Inn coworker McCarthy, playing of those angels, Chamuel. Here, he introduces his character and talks about that reunion. I love your character’s entrance. Talk about reading that in the script. Yanic Truesdale: I have to say, my manager, when he saw the thing, said, “I believe this is one of the greatest entrances in Hollywood history.” [Laughs] It is a good one. I cannot lie.

"I can feel you flowing through!!" Netflix has revealed the first official trailer for a new comedy series titled God's Favorite Idiot, the latest creation from the husband-wife comedy duo Melissa McCarthy & Ben Falcone. Usually Falcone directs McCarthy in Hollywood comedies but this time he stars as the main character in this workplace comedy about what would happen if he suddenly started glowing after being struck by lightning. In God's Favorite Idiot, Mid level Tech support employee Clark Thompson finds love with co-worker Amily Luck at exactly the same time he becomes the unwitting messenger of God. There's also roller skating, a lake of fire and an apocalypse, too. This looks like they went all out with the religious imagery. Falcone stars with McCarthy, and an ensemble cast including Leslie Bibb as Satan, Kevin Dunn, Usman Ally, Steve Mallory, Chris Sandiford, Ana Scotney, and Yanic Truesdale. This seems extra quirky...

Heaven, hell, and office romances: real-life couple and comedy duo Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone lead Netflix comedy “God’s Favorite Idiot,” premiering on the streamer June 15.
McCarthy and Falcone co-founded On the Day Productions, and have written and produced films like “Tammy,” “The Boss” and “Life of the Party” together with Falcone directing. Now, the creative partners lead “God’s Favorite Idiot,” which is part “Bruce Almighty” and part workplace comedy.
Falcone stars as unassuming tech support employee Clark Thompson who pines after his co-worker Amily Luck (McCarthy). After being struck by lightning, Clark begins to glow — and not just because his crush is reciprocated. Turns out, Clark is now anointed, and must battle Satan (Leslie Bibb) with the help of Amily.
The eight-episode series also stars Kevin Dunn, Usman Ally, Steve Mallory, Chris Sandiford, Ana Scotney, and Yanic Truesdale. “God’s Favorite Idiot” is Oscar nominee McCarthy’s follow-up TV role...

What could be a “reasonable explanation” for a person to glow? That’s one of the questions posed in the God’s Favorite Idiot trailer. Netflix has unveiled a new look at its upcoming comedy starring Ben Falcone and Melissa McCarthy, and the world’s least likely hero is about to become God’s Favorite Idiot. “I saw something crazy last night, and I do want to just be completely open and honest: Yes, I did cocaine twice last week, but I did zero cocaine preceding the event I’m about to describe,” Amily (McCarthy) says when she walks into work. Clark (Falcone) was glowing, she reveals, adding, “I also accidentally roofied myself last night, too, but I don’t know if that’s really relevant.” Watch the trailer below for more, including the Gilmore Girls reunion with McCarthy and Yanic Truesdale and the four horsemen — or rather, horsepeople — of the apocalypse.

A higher power is calling upon Ben Falcone to do some good in God’s Favorite Idiot, the latest comedy from the actor-creator and Melissa McCarthy that drops June 15 on Netflix. The streamer has unveiled the first trailer for the series (see above).
Here’s the logline for the comedy: “Clark Thompson (Falcone) is a mid-level tech support employee, who takes saunas with his dad, Gene (Kevin Dunn), pines after his co-worker Amily (McCarthy), and loves his cats. When he starts to glow, he begins to realize this isn’t an average day at the office and God has bigger plans for him. Clark can’t save mankind by himself, he must gather his flock of mismatched co-workers, his longtime crush Amily and angelic allies to outwit Satan herself (Leslie Bibb). Together, they’re just a bunch of average humans coming together for the greater good because, after all, you can’t save the world alone.
