Celebrities know how important it is to have a good relationship with their fans, but sometimes they need a bit of a reminder. Jane Fonda recently revealed that 9 to 5 co-star Dolly Parton taught her an important lesson about fans while they worked on the beloved movie together.
Dolly Parton and Jane Fonda worked together on ‘9 to 5’ alongside Lily Tomlin
In 1980, 9 to 5 premiered and starred Fonda, Parton, and Lily Tomlin. The movie follows the trio as they work under a horrible misogynistic boss, Franklin Hart. After some hijinks, including mistakenly thinking they killed Franklin and kidnapping him, Fonda, Parton, and Tomlin create a perfect work environment. Things are working out great, but how long can they keep up the ruse that Franklin is still in charge?

Director Robert Benton and Paul Newman come through with an extremely pleasing small town story. Snowy North Bath New York would seem a pit of failures big and small, until we begin to appreciate its social web of ‘support relationships’ that fill in for broken family connections. Newman’s injured laborer can’t get a fair shake, but he begins to realize the importance of his neighbors and his grandson. The comic conflicts are wholly believable, with Jessica Tandy, Bruce Willis, Melanie Griffith, Pruitt Taylor Vince and Philip Seymour Hoffman on board: this one is Mellow and Mature (and a little racy) without succumbing to Hallmark TV drama sentimentality.

A pair of Oscar winners have recently undergone new restorations ahead of theatrical releases. While one can’t get much better than The Criterion Collection edition of The Graduate, a new 50th anniversary 4K restoration will be coming to U.K. cinemas this month and a new trailer has landed for Mike Nichols‘ coming-of-age masterpiece led by Dustin Hoffman.
Following that, there’s a new trailer for Clint Eastwood‘s Best Picture-winning western Unforgiven, which turns 25 this summer. With the restoration premiering as part of the Cannes Classics line-up, it’ll fittingly come to France first. The new restoration of The Graduate hits U.K. theaters starting June 23 while Unforgiven returns to theaters in France two days prior. Stay tuned for updates on U.S. releases and check out both trailers below.

"This is Benjamin. He's a little worried about his future." Studiocanal in the UK has debuted a new trailer for the upcoming re-released of Mike Nichols' classic The Graduate, starring Dustin Hoffman in one of his early breakout roles. The film, first released in America in 1967, is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a re-release in the UK at the BFI Southbank in London as part of its Dustin Hoffman season of screenings. The Criterion Collection already made their own fresh new version (on Blu-ray!) from the 35mm negatives, and those same negatives have been used for this brand new 4K Dcp. The film also stars Anne Bancroft, Katharine Ross, William Daniels, Murray Hamilton, and Elizabeth Wilson. This film had a huge impact on Hollywood in the late 1960s, and is still considered a true classic by many movie lovers. Have fun. Here's the new trailer for the UK re-release...

What can you say to such success? Mike Nichols and Buck Henry's sex satire defined 'the generation gap' for the sixties. Dustin Hoffman sprang forward from obscurity and Katharine Ross was the object of California desire. Anne Bancroft's Mrs. Robinson freed the image of the 'complicated woman' from the clutches of the Production Code Stone Age. I’m a big fan of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. I try to read it every Christmas, I watch multiple versions of it during the holiday season (including a half hour animated version starring Mister Magoo), and in my acting days I performed in the annual theater production of it at Chicago’s Goodman Theater. For the record, I played in the all-important parts of Mr. Lean, Fred’s friend number 3, dancing man, and ensemble.
Coming across a mystery called The Humbug Murders – An Ebenezer Scrooge Mystery by L.J. Oliver, I was quickly drawn in. Not without some hesitation; the notion of Dickens’ notorious miser acting as a detective rattled my chains a bit. Still, I decided to give it a chance.
For the most part, it works. L.J. Oliver is a pen name for Scott Ciencin and Elizabeth Wilson, both of whom are experienced authors. Sadly,...

Distinguished stage and screen actor best known for her role as the shallow and materialistic mother in the hit 1967 film The Graduate
It is a show business axiom that a small role in a hit Hollywood film is worth much more in the currency of fame than dozens of longer, meatier parts in the theatre. Thus Elizabeth Wilson, who has died aged 94, is primarily acknowledged as having played Dustin Hoffman’s shallow and materialistic mother in The Graduate (1967) rather than for her critically acclaimed stage performances in plays by Anton Chekhov (Uncle Vanya), Oscar Wilde (The Importance of Being Earnest), Eugene O’Neill (Ah Wilderness!), Bertolt Brecht (The Good Woman of Szechuan, The Threepenny Opera) and Edward Albee (A Delicate Balance).
Nevertheless, Wilson was admirable in Mike Nichols’s The Graduate, initially displaying maternal pride at her son’s achievements at college, reading from the yearbook to a houseful of...

Teresa Wright and Matt Damon in 'The Rainmaker' Teresa Wright: From Marlon Brando to Matt Damon (See preceding post: "Teresa Wright vs. Samuel Goldwyn: Nasty Falling Out.") "I'd rather have luck than brains!" Teresa Wright was quoted as saying in the early 1950s. That's understandable, considering her post-Samuel Goldwyn choice of movie roles, some of which may have seemed promising on paper.[1] Wright was Marlon Brando's first Hollywood leading lady, but that didn't help her to bounce back following the very public spat with her former boss. After all, The Men was released before Elia Kazan's film version of A Streetcar Named Desire turned Brando into a major international star. Chances are that good film offers were scarce. After Wright's brief 1950 comeback, for the third time in less than a decade she would be gone from the big screen for more than a year.

Protect sharks or they face possible extinction in a generation, scientists warn as they gather in Bangkok for Cites meeting
Almost 100 million sharks are being killed each year, with fishing rates outstripping the ability of populations to recover, scientists have estimated.
Sharks need better protection to prevent possible extinction of many species within coming decades, the researchers warned ahead of latest global meeting to discuss the trade in threatened species.
The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (Cites) meeting, starting on Monday in Bangkok, will consider greater protection of vulnerable sharks, including porbeagles, oceanic whitetip and three types of hammerhead to prevent unsustainable international trade in them.
Sharks are targeted for their fins for use in shark fin soup, a delicacy in Asia.
But as they are slow-growing and slow to reproduce, they are vulnerable to overfishing. The researchers estimated that global reported catches, unreported landings, discards and sharks...

Abraham Lincoln’s not the only former president to get a little cinema love this year. Hyde Park On The Hudson gives us another look at the man who spent the most time in the oval office: Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Like Abe, Fdr served during one of the country’s most difficult periods. With the former it was the Civil War, while the latter dealt with the Great Depression and the second World War. And both men inspired extreme passion from their countrymen, either admiration or condemnation. Oddly both films concentrate on a single incident instead of the standard “rags to riches” movie bio. Lincoln centers on his efforts to get Congress to ratify the 14th Amendment in 1865. Hyde concerns the visit by the British royal couple to the upstate New York home of Fdr’s mother in 1939. While Spielberg stays out of the boudoir for the most part, director...

One wikend would unite two great nations. After cocktails, of course! Hyde Park On Hudson wasn’t exactly my favourite project, but after watching the first TV spot and a completely new featurette, I definitely have to say – the movie looks great! I mean – just imagine (or, even better – watch!) Bill Murray as Franklin D. Roosevelt, who would say no to an offer like this? Check it out and let us know what you think!
As usual, at the beginning of the report, I will remind you that this project comes from director Roger Michell, while Richard Nelson stands behind the movie script which centers on the weekend in 1939 when the King and Queen of the United Kingdom visited upstate New York.
The movie has an awesome cast on board which, beside the extraordinary Murray also includes Laura Linney, Olivia Colman, Samuel West, Elizabeth Marvel, Elizabeth Wilson, Eleanor Bron and Olivia Williams.

If you have viewed all eight seasons of Foyle's War on Netflix, as any responsible TV aficionado should have done by now, you'll know how peeved the Brits were about America's late entry into World War II.
Well, Hyde Park on Hudson chronicles how King George VI (Samuel West) and Queen Elizabeth (Olivia Colman) of England traipsed across the Atlantic to convince Fdr and the American public to set aside their beloved isolationist stances and come to the aid of the free world and help beat up the Nazis. This, as you will learn, was accomplished with the aid of hot dogs and mustard.
But before everyone gets down to munching on America's favorite sausage, screenwriter Richard Nelson recounts what led up to this pivotal historic moment by focusing upon the "romance" Fdr (a first-rate Bill Murray) had with his sixth cousin and neighbor Margaret Suckley (Laura Linney), better known as Daisy.

Michael C here with my first dispatch from the 50th New York Film Festival. First up is one of the Fall's two big president-starring prestige pictures.
Roger Michell’s Hyde Park on Hudson is a perfect example of that particular type of high-end, finely crafted period piece that hits theaters every autumn on its way to an Oscar nomination for Costume Design. These titles exist to provide awards voters with two hours of comfort food nostalgia wrapped in a thin packaging of historical significance. In recent years this subgenre has provided us with films like Finding Neverland, Mrs. Henderson Presents, and My Week With Marilyn. This year it’s Hyde Park on the Hudson, a film on the low end of this particular style. To call it a dud would be too harsh - kinder to say that it’s a missed opportunity.

I have no idea where to even begin with Hyde Park on Hudson. I don't even know why it's called Hyde Park on Hudson. It should be called Roosevelt's Love Shack or Fdr's Gettin' Some. I say this because, despite initial appearances, the point of the film seems to be a justification for infidelity as we learn of President Franklin Roosevelt's intimate transgressions over a period of time spent with his sixth generation cousin. Confusion surrounds the film as we're initially led to believe it's going to focus on the visit from the King and Queen of England to Roosevelt's titular, upstate New York getaway in June of 1939. That visit, however, turns into a hot dog-eating sideshow compared to the exploration of Fdr's sexual exploits. All considered, I have no idea what I'm supposed to take away from any of this, and after this review I won't likely ever consider it again.
