The big return of Dwayne Johnson to the WWE and then claiming the new gimmick The Final Boss as he turned heel, the big bad of WWE changed almost everything. On the other spectrum of the story, Cody Rhodes was on the rise— his story was being written as the making of a hero and his Royal Rumble win changed the dynamics of the narrative in WWE.

The original plan for The Rock to get into the feud for the Universal Title against the then champion and his cousin Roman Reigns seemed kind of a dream match. However, Rhodes was in the picture as well, and The Rock was heavily criticized by fans for snatching the match from the Royal Rumble winner. The Rock’s head writer, Brian Gewirtz revealed that the original plan for Rhodes at WrestleMania 40 would have been hated by fans.

Welcome to this review of this past Monday’s episode of WWE Raw, right here on Nerdly… Let’s see what went down on this week’s show!
Match #1: Drew McIntyre def. Jey Uso The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Following on from their intense war of words, The Scottish Warrior and “Main Event” Jey Uso reignited their rivalry in the ring. As the two battled back-and-forth, the top-rope turnbuckle got dislodged. The Scottish Warrior used this to his advantage, raking the eyes of Uso with the referees back turned. This allowed McIntyre to hit the Claymore, earning the win.
My Score: 3.5 out of 5 Match #2: Rhea Ripley def. Maxxine Dupri The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Dupri shocked Ripley by hitting with her a hurricanrana, but this only enraged The Nightmare. Ripley soon made quick work of Dupri, hitting the Riptide before locking in the Prism...

“The Suite Life of Zack & Cody” actor Kim Rhodes, who played the spunky mother of the titular twins on the hit Disney Channel series, revealed pre-teen stars Dylan and Cole Sprouse often defended her on the show’s set.
Speaking on the “Back to the Best” podcast last week, Rhodes recalled a particular moment when Dylan Sprouse refused to tell a “fat joke” at her expense.
“They defended me all the way through. I got pregnant when I was on the show, and of course the show dealt with it by making fat jokes,” Rhodes said. “One of my favorite memories is Dylan had a line that was a fat joke, and he just kept skipping over it. It was like in the middle of a chunk of dialogue, so he kept skipping this laugh line … And finally we get in front of the studio audience and he skips it,...

Actor Idris Elba made his feature directorial debut with the 2018 crime drama Yardie, and earlier this year we heard that he would be following that up with an action thriller called Infernus. That movie was supposed to get started filming in October, but appears to have been disrupted by the strikes. So while we wait to hear what’s going to happen with Infernus, The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that Elba is teaming up with Martin Owen (The Loneliest Boy in the World) to co-direct a survival thriller called Above the Below… and this one is already in production!
Above the Below started filming last week at Pinewood Studios, using two separate stages – including the studio’s underwater stage. In addition to co-directing, Elba also stars in the movie alongside Caitlin FitzGerald (Masters of Sex) and Hero Fiennes Tiffin (the After franchise).

Elba will helm Above the Below with Martin Owen (The Loneliest Boy in The World), and will star alongside actress and filmmaker Caitlin FitzGerald and Hero Fiennes Tiffin, who earlier worked with Owen on The Loneliest Boy in the World.

“Just think,” Sir Lancelot (Taran Killam) muses as he celebrates his gay wedding at the end of Monty Python’s Spamalot. “In a thousand-and-eighteen years time, this will still be controversial.” Killam puts special emphasis on the “eighteen,” an addition to the script that nods to the supposed ways in which Spamalot remains relevant nearly two decades after the Tony-winning musical adaptation of Terry Jones and Terry Gilliam’s 1975 film Monty Python and the Holy Grail tore up the 2004-2005 Broadway season.
The construction of the joke suggests that not much has changed—either for good or ill—in the past decades. That’s hardly true, because when Hank Azaria delivered the punchline in 2005, gay marriage wouldn’t be legalized in New York State for another six years. It’s surprising how much of Spamalot’s humor, especially the gay jokes, now feels rooted in an earlier time. Even peppered...

[This story contains spoilers from the series finale of Billions, “Admirals Fund.”]
“Bobbie Sue took the money and run” is not exactly the same as saying “Bobby and Chuck took the money and run,” though “Sue” is not a bad nickname for the crusading lawyer played for seven seasons by Paul Giamatti. Still, the vibes are very much on point as Steve Miller Band’s “Take the Money and Run” played viewers out in the opening and closing moments of the series finale of Billions, which ended a seven-season run with one last signature heist and one last big score for basically every single character — everyone, except for late-game antagonist Mike Prince (Corey Stoll).
As often is the case with Billions, the final episode, “Admirals Fund,” pulls the curtain back on events from previous episodes, only to reveal that they did not play out exactly as the audience thought. It looked like the holy alliance of Chuck Rhodes (Giamatti...

Josie in Bottoms is a tomboyish, lesbian, and introverted character played by Ayo Edebiri. The character is somewhat socially inept in comparison to her best friend, Pj. She has her eyes set on the attractive cheerleader, Isabel, who is supposedly the girlfriend of the popular football player Jeff, in their high school. She plays along with the mindless idea of Pj spreading lies, just to start a fight club. This brings to light that the character of Josie is gullible by nature and quite easy to manipulate. Directed by Emma Seligman, the comedy movie Bottoms is replete with queer content. The comic elements could definitely be compared to high-school comedies like Mean Girls and American Pie. However, placing queer characters as the central figures in the movie has set it apart from regular high-school comedies. What the character of Josie does to cope with all the high school drama can...

Duran Duran have shared their funky new song “Black Moonlight,” one of the band’s three originals from their upcoming Halloween-inspired, largely covers album Danse Macabre.
For the track, Duran Duran reunited with longtime collaborator Nile Rodgers, who previously produced the band’s 1986 LP Notorious, in addition to other contributions throughout the decades.
“‘Black Moonlight’ is this classic Duran Duran-Nile Rodgers collaboration,” Simon Le Bon said in a statement. “When Nile started playing his guitar in the studio, he really inspired everyone with his riff, and the song just kind of wrote itself.

Donald Trump told so many lies during his Meet the Press interview that aired Sunday that NBC released a lengthy fact check chronicling his numerous mistruths. He claimed that bacon prices have increased five fold (they have not), that the 2020 election was “rigged” (there is no evidence of this), and that “15 million” undocumented immigrants are “flooding” the U.S. (that figure is a massive overestimate).
During the course of the interview, Trump used the word “rigged” in reference to the election nineteen times. The election, of course, was not rigged.

Sky News, a division of Comcast-owned European media and technology giant Sky, wants its coverage to “set an agenda, not present one,” David Rhodes, executive chairman of the Sky News Group, said in London on Tuesday evening.
Speaking during a Sky News showcase at Somerset House in central London, he talked about the news brand’s approach. The event took place at a time when Sky News is preparing for what it has called “a pivotal year for U.K. and U.S. politics,” given big elections in both countries.
Rhodes also described Sky News’ goals as “challenging the powerful in equal measure, challenging the status quo” and being “an insurgent brand.”
He also promised that “we’ll be investing in our political coverage,” mentioning the weeknight 7-8 p.m. show Politics Hub with Sophy Ridge as an example. “We started the Politics Hub on television, it had been a digital brand.

Cody Rhodes is one of the leading figures in professional wrestling, but his path to the top has not been a straight one.
In the new Peacock documentary “American Nightmare: Becoming Cody Rhodes,” the WWE star delves deep into his past and sets his sights on the future. Welcome to this review of this past Monday’s episode of WWE Raw, right here on Nerdly… We’ve got the build to Backlash so let’s see what went down on this week’s show!
Match #1: The Bloodline def. Lwo The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Just days away from the WWE Draft and weeks away from WWE Backlash, The Lwo and The Bloodline threw down in a Six-Man Tag Team Match. With new music inspired by WWE Hall of Famer Eddie Guerrero, The Lwo confidently strode down to the ring. Their confidence paid off at the start when they stood tall to begin the match. The Lwo continued their dominance with Santos Escobar lighting up The Usos and Sikoa with jumping knee strikes and crossbodys. A superb Phoenix Splash by Del Toro almost gave The Lwo a resounding win, but The Bloodline were able to survive...

Some fans were excited when they heard that Terminator franchise creator James Cameron was going to be involved with the making of a new Terminator sequel after being absent from a few previous entries in the franchise. But when Terminator: Dark Fate (watch it Here) arrived in theatres back in 2019, it wasn’t met with much enthusiasm. It turned out to be another box office failure, continuing Terminator‘s three film losing streak. Speaking with Deadline, Cameron said he feels the casting was at least partly to blame for the movie’s failure, saying that having Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton in the lead roles make it look like a movie for granddads.
Directed by Tim Miller from a screenplay by David S. Goyer, Justin Rhodes, and Billy Ray, Terminator: Dark Fate only acknowledged the events of The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day, ignoring the other sequels. The film...

Terrence Malick first arrived on the scene as part of the New Hollywood movement in the 1970s with his directorial debut "Badlands" and its 1978 follow-up "Days of Heaven," and both are now listed in the National Film Registry for their historic significance. After making "Days of Heaven," however, Malick disappeared from show business for two full decades. It was only in 1998 that he finally returned to the big screen with his Oscar-nominated World War II movie, "The Thin Red Line."
That two-decade absence may have been partially rooted in Malick's experience on "Days of Heaven," which was a particularly daunting film for him and Billy Weber to edit. In an oral history of "Badlands" for GQ, Weber recalled that they spent two years editing "Days of Heaven" — an inordinately long time for a film to be in post-production. Paul Lee, a philosophy instructor at Harvard College and MIT, also recalled...

"Mike," which premiered on Hulu on Aug. 25, tells the story of Mike Tyson, played by Trevante Rhodes. The show separates Tyson's life into categories that also serve as episode titles: thief, monster, lover, jailbird, cannibal. Tyson has been associated, in so many words, with all of these labels during his lifetime, along with many others. To tell his story is to tangle with those contradictions - and to face off with a legacy that threatens to obscure the man at the heart of it all.
The real-life Tyson has often provoked strong emotions among the general public, from reverence to disdain. "Mike" doesn't try to frame Tyson's story through any particular lens, though. It's more interested in laying the character bare and in getting to the heart of what made him who he is. Rhodes's Tyson spends a lot of the show narrating his own life story, smiling and...

Sometimes there’s no better ratings boost for an unauthorized account of a celebrity’s life than that person speaking out against it. Or in the case of HBO’s “Winning Time,” several folks. Thanks to former world heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson’s documented displeasure with Hulu digging into his very public life, the eight-part limited series “Mike” has landed more eyeballs. The question, however, is will they be satisfied with what they see?
Initially, the answer is no. Unlike Tyson in his heyday, “Mike” takes a minute to heat up. Despite teasing Tyson shockingly biting rival Evander Holyfield’s ear to kick off the series, the first episode “Thief” travels back to Tyson’s rough Brooklyn upbringing as the youngest child being raised by a poor, single mother of three. It’s a bleak existence that’s truly hard to watch, mostly due to Zaiden James’ very effective performance as young Mike.

Trevante Rhodes wishes he could have gone at least one round with the champ. Rhodes plays embattled former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson in Hulu's Mike, premiering Aug. 25, and he laments the fact that he wasn't able to touch gloves with Tyson in order to prepare. "It would have been great for me to train with Mike, from just a feeling standpoint," Rhodes exclusively told E! News. "Just as energy, you know what I mean? You'd have the opportunity to feel that heat with somebody to be able to convey it just a little bit better. Maybe one day." As for what he would do if he did come face to face with Tyson? "I would like to give him a hug and ask him how...

Even if you don't know Mike Tyson there's a good chance you "know" Mike Tyson. Or rather, you know the bullet points of his strange life and career: his troubled childhood, his brutal boxing career that began at such a young age, his connection to Don King, his love of pigeons, his lisp, his rape conviction, the fight where he bit off a chunk of Evander Holyfield's ear, his face tattoo, his cameo in "The Hangover," and so on. These aren't the sum of an entire life, but trivia questions, and "Mike," the new Hulu series that covers Tyson's rise and fall, sure hopes you're familiar with them, because that's almost all you're going to get.
For most of its episode, "Mike" is a surface-level look at Tyson. Allow me to get a boxing metaphor out of the way nice and early and say this: "Mike" pulls its punches.

Mike Tyson is a figure with unusual voltage, a celebrity who fought for his spot in the firmament with a weaponized charisma. The champion boxer is relentless even by the standards of the sport, with the famous incident in which he bit the ear of Evander Holyfield casting a shadow over his achievements. Outside the ring, he’s simultaneously known for a surprising soft-spokenness that makes the listener want to lean in and for a tendency toward violence — including a 1992 conviction for the rape of Desiree Washington — that repels.
A serious reckoning with Tyson’s place in our culture, in the currently on-trend format of dramatized retelling via limited series, would deal with both sides of the Tyson image, and the complicated ways they feed each other — the fact that the allure of Tyson is bolstered by our sense of him as threatening. This is not the path that Hulu’s new series “Mike” takes.

Hulu’s “Mike” takes yet another look at the life of embattled boxing champion Mike Tyson, and series creator Steven Rogers told television reporters on Thursday he hopes the athlete, who has criticized the show, may change his opinion if he gets a chance to see it.
“I would hope that if he watches it, that he would change his opinion,” Rogers said during Thursday’s Television Critics Association summer tour panel for the upcoming show.
Shortly after the project, which stars “Moonlight” breakout Trevante Rhodes as the embattled boxer, was announced, Tyson slammed the series, calling it “a prime example of how Hulu’s corporate greed led to this tone-deaf cultural misappropriation of my life story” in a now-deleted Instagram post. He followed up a few days later with the announcement of another project about his life, in which Jamie Foxx will portray him, calling the biopic the “authorized” version.

Exclusive: Legacies alum Ben Levin and Kim Rhodes (Supernatural) have joined the upcoming third season of CW’s Kung Fu in heavily recurring roles.
Levin will play Bo, a barista/vigilante who lives across the Bay in Oakland. He’s cool, smart, and strong with a jack-of-all-trades fighting style. His extracurricular crime fighting leads to a collision with Nicky (Olivia Liang) and her siblings. New in town and far from home, Bo’s eager to pitch in with the Shen family’s adventures, and to fight by Nicky’s side.
