Exclusive: Media Res, the company behind Apple’s The Morning Show, has paid 7-figures to secure rights to Adrian McKinty’s global bestselling novel The Chain. The plan is to turn the thriller into a TV series.
Writer/producer Shane Salerno (Avatar: The Way of Water) will be executive producer along with Media Res’ Michael Ellenberg and Lindsey Springer. McKinty will be a Co-ep. Media Res and Salerno will next enlist a showrunner and actress to play the lead role and shop that package.
The Chain is a conspiracy thriller page-turner about an ordinary mother facing every parent’s worst nightmare: Her child is taken on her way to school. To get her back, the people behind the kidnapping plot – they call themselves The Chain – demand she do the unimaginable in exchange. Neben einer Reihe weiterer, zum Teil fest erwarteter Titel bestätigt Variety, dass „Joker: Folie A Deux“ bereits fix ist für die diesjährige 81. Mostra in Venedig.
Mostra in Venedig findet vom 28.

The upcoming Venice Film Festival is shaping up to be a star-studded affair with Lady Gaga, Joaquin Phoenix, Angelina Jolie, Daniel Craig, Johnny Depp, George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Gal Gadot and Ana de Armas among top Hollywood talents likely to be launching high-profile titles from the Lido.
Though festival chief Alberto Barbera has yet to see several submitted works that are likely to make the cut, a clutch of globally buzzy movies have already secured a coveted Venice berth, though some of the more mainstream entries will probably be bowing out-of-competition.
“Joker 2: Folie à Deux,” Todd Phillips’ edgy musical sequel to his 2019 Golden Lion prizewinning “Joker,” starring Gaga and Phoenix, is a competition shoo-in, along with Pablo Larraín’s Maria Callas biopic “Maria,” starring Jolie in the title role.

For many New Yorkers on the Upper West Side, the Marlene Meyerson Jcc Manhattan is a spot to play pickleball, grab a cup of coffee, or dump your kid off for a ceramics class. From June 4 through June 10, however, it will be the nexus of current Israeli cinema, hosting the 12th Annual Israel Film Center Festival. And considering what has transpired lately at Columbia University just a few subway stops away, it could make for some particularly lively post-screening Q&As.
Jcc stands for Jewish Community Center, and while you don’t have to be Jewish to go and use their pool, the vast Amsterdam Avenue facility is not not connected to Israel. In its lobby you’ll find a wall boasting “Jerusalem stone,” no shortage of Hebrew classes, and various lectures and symposiums concerning the Middle East.

We're back with another MCU rumour roundup and, should these prove correct, the franchise's uncertain future may have come into focus.
Earlier this month, we shared the news that Hawkeye season 2 may be moving forward, with a story inspired by The Raid. In that, Clint Barton and Kate Bishop will reportedly square off with the Avenger's villainous brother, Barney (a.k.a. Trickshot).
Now, Murphy's Multiverse's has chimed in to reveal that "a second season of Hawkeye does indeed seem to be in development and could end up on Disney Plus much sooner than expected."
With the action set in one location, it's possible Marvel Studios can shoot this pretty quickly, with the show presumably eyeing a 2026 release if this report is anything to go by.
Elsewhere in the site's own rumour roundup, they reiterate plans for Robert Downey Jr. to return as Iron Man in the Multiverse Saga.

Marvel has been coming up with a lot of new strategies to fix the mistakes they have made these past few years. One of the most creative solutions has to be the concept of Marvel Spotlight. Many fans were upset with how every single project in Marvel had a level of continuity to another, which made casual watching impossible.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has always given us big bad villains who know how to put our beloved Avengers in the worst possible situations. While we have come to love some of them like Loki, it’s a little too difficult to do so with others like Thanos. And now, a report suggests that Dwayne Johnson could be taking on the responsibility for playing the MCU’s next big bad.
Dwayne Johnson in Red Notice (2021) | Seven Bucks Productions
We all had a lot of expectations with Kang the Conqueror but how things played out in Ant-Man 3 and everything regarding Jonathan Majors’ personal life seems to have dulled out our hopes. The villain Dwayne Johnson is rumored to be playing just might be what the MCU needs but not everyone is happy with the potential casting.

We've covered quite a few actors and actresses here at TV Fanatic, and while some of them have fallen into the "familiar face in the background" roles, none have snuck up on audiences like Olivia Munn.
One of her first acting gigs was that of "Claw Hostess" in the Steve Carell and Tina Fey comedy Date Night.
Although her part was small, the actress was one of the most memorable experiences of that movie—besides Mark Wahlberg shirtless, that is.
Though she looks like a model, Munn's career has focused solely on the small and big screen and live and scripted appearances.
In many ways, she's like that actor you notice when you rewatch movies from years ago, making you go, "Wait, isn't that what's her name from that thing?"
It's an extremely common occurrence with actors who turn into big names later in their careers. Don't believe me?...

Earlier this month, a pretty wild rumour started doing the rounds online suggesting Marvel Studios wants Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson to play Apocalypse in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
An X-Men reboot - hopefully titled "Uncanny X-Men" - will be released after Avengers: Secret Wars, but is the pro wrestler turned Hollywood A-Lister a good fit for the MCU? It's no secret that he attempted to exert creative control over the DC Extended Universe after attempting to turn it into the "DJ Extended Universe" with Black Adam!
That won't fly with Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige, but if The Rock is willing to play ball, then he could make for a suitably formidable En Sabah Nur in a future live-action X-Men movie.
In some new fan art, we get an idea of what he'll look like as the villainous Apocalypse and, honestly, it works. We still don't know how old the X-Men themselves will be,...

As far as the Marvel Cinematic Universe goes, "Moon Knight" occupies a strange place. Starring Oscar Isaac in the lead role, it involves a superhero with a personality disorder, with the whole show steeped in Egyptian lore. It's unique in and amongst the vast sea of other superhero stuff out there. That was made clear even from the show's opening moments, which see Ethan Hawke's villain Arthur Harrow pouring broken glass in his shoes before walking around in them somewhat casually. It was a twisted moment, particularly for the historically PG-13 MCU. It turns out this moment came from the mind of Hawke himself.
In a 2022 interview with Yahoo, the actor, known for his work in movies like "Training Day" and "Sinister," was asked about the moment in question. Hawke explained that it all stemmed from him trying to figure out the character. In the end, he ended up...

Disparage the Marvel Cinematic Universe all you want, but there's no denying that when it comes to casting, Kevin Feige and the McU's longtime casting director, Sarah Halley Finn, have the magic touch. It's all but impossible now to picture anyone other than Robert Downey Jr. lending his snarky wit to the self-declared "genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist" Tony Stark, or to imagine a different actor bringing the same spot-on mix of wholesomeness and New Yorker defiance like Chris Evans did as Steve Rogers. And let's not forget Thor and Loki, two Marvel Comics veterans who could've easily been dismissed as dorky C-listers, only to become the franchise's most long-lasting players thanks to Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston.

Despite Kevin Feigeʼs tireless efforts to keep the cogs of the megalomaniacal Marvel universe running, some of the products like the star-studded Eternals come out a bit worse for the wear and bear the brunt of the fans who remain dejected with the performance of the Phase Four era.
The quality of projects originating in the post-Endgame saga of the MCU have performed categorically worse in the recent past. Regardless, not many original projects coming out of that Phase have received the sequel treatment.
Tiamut in Eternals (2021) [Credit: Marvel Studios]With plenty of Marvel films and television projects now facing criticism over their deteriorating quality, it is only fair for audiences to feel nervous after receiving news about a sequel to a Phase Four film. Moreover, the studioʼs stagnating state of work neither shows improvement nor the desire to achieve it, making it difficult to accept Marvelʼs decision regarding a Phase Four film sequel.

Marvel Studios has been tasked by Disney CEO Bob Iger with getting back to quality over quantity. That's why, moving forward, we're getting three movies per year and only two Disney+ TV shows.
We'd bet on Kevin Feige appearing at both the San Diego Comic-Con and D23 to share an updated Multiverse Saga slate, but some updates come our way today courtesy of scooper Daniel Richtman.
We'll start with Spider-Man 4. That's supposedly set to begin shooting this fall, with the plan being for the movie to arrive in theaters as soon as fall 2025. It's a quick turnaround, but very much in line with the wall-crawler's previous solo outings.
Here's where things get really interesting: Richtman adds that the piece of Venom left on Earth-616 at the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home will play a role in the movie. Given what a dark place Peter Parker is likely to...

Their commitment to creating a platform for independent filmmaking feels refreshing in the glut of superhero and IP-driven releases. Amidst the pomp and circumstance surrounding the Imperium delegation’s arrival to the Atreides home world of Caladan, Duke Leto Atreides (Oscar Isaac), has a practical question. “How much did it cost them, traveling all this way for this formality?” he asks his Mentat Thufir Hawat at the start of Dune. And then Thufir, played by Stephen McKinley Henderson, does something weird. He doesn’t whip out a palm pilot or consult his calculator watch. He instead rolls his eyes into the back of his head for a couple of seconds and then produces an answer: “Three Guild Navigators, a total of one-point-four-six-million-sixty-two Solaris roundtrip.” Director Denis Villeneuve nor his co-writers Jon Spaihts and Eric Roth explain what any of those words mean in the script, or why Thufir does that weird thing with his eyes. And viewers easily chalk it up just another weird thing in this unfamiliar world.

Spoilers ahead for X-Men ’97.
Despite the raucous criticism that arose in the aftermath of Bryan Singerʼs atrocious fourth film (X-Men: Apocalypse) in his X-Men directorial biography, nothing seemed to go right in the mutant universe until Beau DeMayoʼs X-Men ʼ97.
Other than a few good scatterings here and there from Matthew Vaughn (X-Men: First Class) and James Mangold (The Wolverine), the Foxverse suffered and lagged under the curse of franchise sequels. Bryan Singerʼs exit after X2 took the life out of the X-Men universe until he appeared again in 2014 armed with the futuristic and brilliantly paced script of X-Men: Days of Future Past.
X-Men ʼ97 [Credit: Marvel Animation/Disney+]In hindsight, even though the 2014 film baked the already confusing timeline into an even greater mess, it was still a high point for the mutant universe considering what was to come soon after.

A year removed from the start of the WGA strike, we’re just starting to see what recovery looks like. It’s rough: TIFF and AFM were disappointing, and Berlin didn’t offer many appealing talent packages. Projects are taking a long time to come together, if they’re happening at all.
However, Cannes may offer a silver lining: The post-strike market may mean a decline in the annual onslaught of trade announcements for movie projects that go nowhere.
“There’s still a lag in the marketplace where stuff isn’t filming; that’s going to affect what’s going on in production right now,” said one domestic sales agent. “During the WGA strike, a lot of talent had taken a seat and said, ‘What is it we really want from the marketplace? We want a different kind of quality.’ You hear it a lot from actors: ‘We want better movies.

Last summer, Paul Schrader was about to start shooting “Oh, Canada,” his adaptation of Russell Banks’ novel about a troubled artist taking stock of his life, when the major actors union went on strike. For a second, it looked like all that hard work, passion and planning might be for nothing — with performers on the picket lines and major studios holding out on their contract demands, it was hard to see how cameras would ever roll on the low-budget indie.
“Everything shut down,” said Brian Beckmann, the CFO and COO of Arclight Films, which is selling international rights to the film. “We were in this position where we had spent all this money and secured all this talent and we weren’t sure we could move forward until the strikes were over.”

The (Extra Hot) Cannes Hot List: Nic Cage, Kristen Stewart and Paul Rudd Films to Heat up the Market
The Cannes Film Festival is bracing for what could be its most disruptive edition in decades, with freelance festival employees threatening strike action that could derail the opening night ceremony, and the entire French industry on tenterhooks ahead of an expected new wave of #MeToo allegations against some of the country’s biggest stars, including a few with films in competition this year.
Well, at least the market looks promising. Judging by the number and quality of projects pitching at the 2024 Cannes film market (May 14-22), this could be a banner year for the Marché du Film.

The Fantastic Four, meet your villain.
Ralph Ineson, the British actor whose three-decade career ranges from the Harry Potter movies to recent horror prequel The First Omen, has landed the plum part of Galactus, the antagonist in Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four.
The high-profile, big-budget outing, the Fantastic Four’s first under the Marvel Cinematic Universe umbrella, has been casting up in recent weeks ahead of a planned mid-summer shoot in England.
On the call sheet are Perdro Pascal as scientist Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as her hot-heated brother Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Richards’ friend with body issues, Ben Grimm/The Thing. Also cast are Julia Garner as a female Silver Surfer and Paul Walter Hauser in an undisclosed role, which some have theorized could be Mole Man or the robot H.E.R.B.I.E.

Marvel Studios has a slew of projects in the pipeline, despite Iger’s announcement of a significant reduction in output. One of the most eagerly awaited is undoubtedly a live-action reboot of ‘X-Men.’
The reboot has been on the cards since Disney acquired the rights to Fox properties like X-Men and Fantastic Four. While we can’t confirm if the rumor we have is directly linked to the X-Men reboot, it certainly seems likely.
Reportedly, Marvel Studios is eyeing Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson to portray the well-known X-Men villain, Apocalypse. Apocalypse was previously portrayed by Oscar Isaac in ‘X-Men: Apocalypse,’ and since Isaac is already cast as Moon Knight in the MCU, it makes sense they’re looking for a different actor.

Marvel Studios has plenty of projects in the making, even after it was announced by Iger that they plan on significantly reducing their output. One of the most anticipated projects it’s certainly an ‘X-Men’ live-action reboot.
The reboot has been in plans ever since Disney took control of Fox properties X-Men and Fantastic Four. Now we don’t know whether the rumor we have for you is tied specifically to the X-Men reboot but it certainly sounds like that.
Namely, according to MyTimeToShineHello Marvel Studios is looking to nab Dwayne The Rock Johnson to play notable X-Men villain, Apocalypse. Apocalypse has was already adapted to screen for ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ played by Oscar Isaac, and since he is already playing Moon Knight in the MCU, it’s understandable why they simply can’t rehash the actor.

Dwayne Johnson has been busy with his return to the WWE and seems to have taken a break from his acting career. While the actor will be next seen in this year’s Moana 2 in a voice role, Johnson has yet to announce a large-scale blockbuster as he has not seen a hit in the past few years.
Johnson’s last film role was in the Dceu film Black Adam, which turned out to be a box-office disaster. The film saw him finally enter the DC universe after years of speculation but the film ended up being a failure. However, the actor has now been rumored to have been offered a place in the MCU and if insider information is to be believed, he will be playing a popular X-Men villain.

5 Sexiest Characters in Star Wars Sequel Trilogy - Main Image
Just when we thought that Star Wars trilogies were over after the release of Episode VII – Revenge of the Sith in 2005, Lucasfilm once again brought the story of the galaxy far, far away to life with the sequel trilogy. It seems that the vampire genre is coming back in style! A once popular subgenre of horror and fantasy movies, the vampire genre became less popular after 2010 and not many filmmakers opted to make such movies anymore. But, it seems that we’re going to see a resurgence of vampire films in the near future. We have already reported on the upcoming vampire flick by Ryan Coogler, we’ve had several such movies recently, and there is another one coming up in 2025. Namely, Italian-Canadian filmmaker Panos Cosmatos is working on an original vampire thriller titled Flesh of the Gods, and it has been confirmed that the film will star Kristen Stewart and Oscar Isaac!

The movie is said to be set in “glittering ’80s L.A.,” where married couple Raoul (Isaac) and Alex (Stewart) each evening descend from their luxury skyscraper condo and head into the city’s electric nighttime realm. The project is written by Andrew Kevin Walker from a story he created with Cosmatos, and produced by Adam McKay and Betsy Koch of Hyperobject Industries. Isaac and Gena Konstantinakos also produce for Mad Gene Media.
