- Nephew of ROOTS Author Alex Haley who connected his family to Kunta Kinte, an African who landed in Annapolis, Maryland in 1767. Since 2004, Chris has held the position Director of the Study of the Legacy of Slavery in Maryland. This office is located in the Maryland State Archives in Annapolis, Maryland.
- Delivered Washington's Birthday Ceremony address to Maryland State Senate on February 17th, 2014, noting that in this building where the first president of the United States had resigned his military commission in 1783, he had gifted a signed copy of his ancestor's story, Roots, to the first lady of the nation's first African American president, Mrs. Obama in 2010.
- Is featured in Roots: The American Story Continues (New Featurette) produced for Roots (mini-series): 'The Complete Original Series: 40th Anniversary' Blu-ray Disc released in June 2016.
- Has had three books of poetry published since 2021: Obsessions (first released in 1998); Until The Right One Comes Along; and in 2022, Fists and Rainbows, which ranked #1 African Poetry and Top 10 LGBT Poetry among Amazon Best Sellers New Releases.
