There’s a reason So You Think You Can Dance‘s Cat Deely gets an Emmy nomination every year as Outstanding Reality-Competition Host — just don’t get me ranting about her lack of an actual win in the category — and she proved it tonight by referencing Edvard Munch’s “Scream” and Calvin Klein’s ad campaigns while praising Edson and Megz’s stunning contemporary routine.

It is time for the most stressful part of the So You Think You Can Dance competition, in my opinion: Vegas callbacks. A total of 114 dancers join Travis on Team Stage while 105 dancers join tWitch on Team Street when they hit the stage in Las Vegas.
I must admit that I wasn't sure about the Stage versus Street twist, but I like it because it really does level the playing field. Team Stage will work with their captain, Travis Wall, and choreographers Josh Bergasse and the formidable Sonya Tayeh. Team Street will work with their captain, tWitch, and Jamal Sims, Dave Scott, and Tabitha and Napoleon D'umo. Travis and tWitch will also help the judges whittle down the contestants to reveal the top 10 dancers on each team.

Spolier alert: I’m not going to complain about Nigel Lythgoe taketh-ing away So You Think You Can Dance‘s crucial “fight for your existence” solo round during tonight’s Top 20 performance episode (Part Deux).

The So You Think You Can Dance All-Stars returned to dance with the Top 10 contestants Wednesday night — and look who we have here! Season 7 standout Alex Freaking Wong, who exited early because of an Achilles tendon injury and had to sit out last summer, after being invited back as an All-Star, because he’d hurt the Other Achilles tendon. I would guess that Alex Wong’s abs positively loathe his Achilles tendons for denying them their rightful opportunity to glisten on national television whenever possible.

Any which way you slice it, this week’s So You Think You Can Dance results show was a trying one. Four of the Top 20 dancers — or 20 percent of the field — felt the cold grip of elimination icily massage their necks, and when it was all said and done, two early favorites, a World Champion, and one of Nigel’s certified lady beasts had fallen by the wayside.
But looking on the bright side, perhaps America’s loss will be Debbie Reynolds’ gain. Indeed, on Wednesday night’s performance show, the screen legend and bawdy guest judge jokingly offered to...

Adam Rose/Fox Cat Deeley hosts “So You Think You Can Dance.”
Cat’s in a one-shoulder dress, looking very goddess like as she introduces the show. The dancers do a group number, choreographed by Dave Scott, to Nina Simone’s “Sinnerman.” They all have bowlers and black and white knee length shorts. I guess they are meant to represent sinners who can’t run.

We haven’t even reached the voting stage for the current installment of So You Think You Can Dance, and I’m about to do something profoundly presumptuous and undeniably stupid: In the wake of Thursday night’s telecast announcing the Season 8 Top 20 — a closely matched group that at first glance appears to be extraordinarily talented — I’ve decided to rest my neck on the guillotine and rank the contestants in order from least- to most-likely to win.
“It’s too early,” you say, and you are probably right. What’s more, a Top 20 ranking flies in the face of...

We've been through cross-country auditions and Las Vegas week, but 20 dancers walked the "So You Think You Can Dance" green mile to make it to the finals of our favorite dance competition. And, lucky for them and us, no one went home this week and the dancers got to show off their skills in their native genres.
The first four dancers to make it into the top 20 performed (in front of a live studio audience, no less) the first routine of the night to The Irrepressibles' harmony-heavy "In This Shirt." The Stacey Tookey-choreographed routine was modern and floaty -- all pale folds of flowing fabric and fog machines obscuring the dancers' feet.
Our first four were all from the contemporary end of the spectrum: Rickey Jaime, an 18-year-old from Tampa, Fla.; Miranda Maleski, a 19-year-old from North Hollywood, Calif. (who told Zap2it she danced on stage behind Kanye West at Coachella); Melanie Moore,...

Wednesday night's (June 30) "So You Think You Can Dance" was probably one of the more entertaining episodes of this still-young season. There were wardrobe malfunctions, contestant testimonies of their dance inspiration, new choreographers, solos from each of the dancers, standing ovations, yelling fans, more over-the-top statements from Adam and the first male-partnered routine on the show ever.
Adechike kicked the night off partnered with Lauren in a Dave Scott hip-hop routine. This was the first time we really got to see his personality shine through his dancing, and the judges were grateful. It was hard to tell if it was because of the talent of the (new) choreographer or because Adechike was so charmed by Lauren and was finally showing that chemistry that was so lacking in his previous performances.
Ashley has been impressing the judges week after week, and last night was no exception. Yet again she danced a contemporary routine,...

So You Think You Can Dance continued tonight as the Top 9 dancers took the stage with their all-star partners in hopes of becoming 'America's Favorite Dancer'. Here's what the judges said: Adechike and Lauren - Hip Hop (choreographer: Dave Scott) Nigel: Thinks that it brought out a new energy in him and that it showcased his natural swagger and personality. "Confidence is there!" he adds. Mia: Says that it turned him into "Mr Personality". Doesn't know what brought about the change, but is happy to see "sunshine" in his dancing. Calls it a solid performance and solid choreography. Adam: Gives the performance a standing ovation and says that he is proud of Adechike. Tells him to keep it up and thanks him for taking the judges' advice.

This week's episode of "So You Think You Can Dance?" kicked off with a fantastic dance routine to a song called "Warrior". The routine was choreographed by Dave Scott. Now for the bad news. Nigel said he was disappointed by all the girls' solo performances and the decision was unanimous. At that point, he revealed that Pauline would be heading home. Next, he stated that the decision for the male dancers was unanimous as well. Shortly after, he revealed that Peter would be going home as well. Neither of the eliminations were surprising to me. Both dancers' peformances kind of sucked, but I didn't think they were the worst of the bunch. If I had to guess, I'd say Ryan and Ellenore will be the next to go.

What up Doc!! First and foremost -- Wow, what a great night to be a fan of dance! A very strong opening show indeed. The lighting and space of the new stage also worked a lot better than I thought they would, allowing the dancers to really get into every performance. I'm very proud of the hip-hoppers for committing to whatever style they were given. Russell reminds me of Joshua Allen in a way -- no matter what he has been given so far, every step of the way, he has given 100 percent commitment. The passion he showed in his solo was amazing. I love Adam Shankman as a judge; he’s very informative and personable and one of my favorite people in the industry. I also love what Adam said about Jakob Karr: "God put him here to spread the gospel of dance.” A powerful statement, and a testament to Jakob’s amazing ability.

Next week's MTV Video Music Awards is shaping up to be a So You Think You Can Dance affair. Season 3's Travis Wall (and new, triumphant Sytycd choreographer) will be choreographing the evening's opening number, Season 4's Mark Kanemura will be a back-up dancer for Lady Gaga, and fellow Season 4 alumni Kherington King's music video for Fame will also be show during the Vma's.
But that's not all folks, while So You Think You Can Dance wasn't able to swing a Michael Jackson tribute dance/show, MTV is. According to Wade Robson's Myspace, for that Mj tribute MTV will be bringing in a handful of So You Think You Can Dance choreographers including Wade, Mia Michaels, Brian Friedman, Tyce Diorio, Dave Scott, and Laurie Anne Gibson. The best of So You Think You Can Dance's choreographers will be performing along side Janet Jackson, in what is sure to be an emotional tribute.

Screen Gems has tapped Benson Lee to adapt his award-winning breakdancing documentary "Planet B-Boy" into a feature to be produced by Beau Flynn and Tripp Vinson of Contrafilm.
The 2007 documentary focused on the international world of B-boying, commonly known in the U.S. as breakdancing. Although the urban dance waned in popularity stateside after peaking in the 1980s, it has evolved and thrived in countries including Japan, South Korea, France and Germany, where in underground form it became more aggressive and athletic. "Bionic b-boying" is how Lee described it.
The doc followed dancers from several continents, culminating in a competition between crews from 18 nations vying for title of world champion at the annual Battle of the Year finals in Berlin.
The new "B-Boy" will tell the story of a legendary b-boy crew that must return to its roots to reclaim the world championship by competing against the top international breakdancing teams.
