Last week, more than 400 TV creators and showrunners — all of them women — sent letters to top executives at Hollywood studios demanding that specific safety protocols be put in place for pregnant employees in states where abortion has been outlawed, or soon will be. Now, letters of support signed by 594 men — including J.J. Abrams, Jordan Peele, Greg Berlanti, Donald Glover, Aaron Sorkin, David E. Kelley, Taika Waititi and Ryan Murphy — have been sent to the same companies.
The text of the letter is short, simply saying the undersigned stand with their “female, trans & non-binary showrunner colleagues in demanding a response from our employers regarding the imminent crisis” at hand. It was delivered by replying-all to the first letter, and was sent to Disney, Netflix, Warner Bros. Discovery, Paramount, Apple, NBC Universal, Amazon, Lionsgate and AMC.
These activist correspondences have been instigated by the Supreme Court’s June 24 Dobbs decison, which overturned Roe v.

Spoiler Alert: The story includes details about the Season 17 finale of Grey’s Anatomy.
In a typical Grey’s Anatomy twist, when Meredith was discharged in Episode 15 after months of battling Covid, she did not get the clap-out all survivors get when leaving the hospital. She had a big one planned. But while all of her colleagues were out front waiting for her to come out, she snuck out through the back, aided by Jackson.
Instead, Meredith received an applause at the end of the Season 17 finale when she and Teddy completed a successful double lung transplant surgery in Meredith’s triumphant return to the Or — and the top of her game.
Meg Marinis, who co-wrote the season finale with Andy Reaser, explained the decision to have the clap-out in the finale, and not in Season 15 as they had originally planned.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched “Someone Saved My Life,” the Season 17 finale of “Grey’s Anatomy.”
“Grey’s Anatomy’s” Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) survived Covid-19 and returned to work within the 17th season of the ABC drama. But unlike every other patient on the show who received a congratulatory clap out when being discharged after surviving the virus, she avoided one. After months back in rotation at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, though, she finally completed her first surgery since having Covid — and was certainly deserving of praise.
“Someone Saved My Life,” the Season 17 finale of the ABC medical drama, began with Meredith stating that the main lesson she learned from having Covid-19 was, “It taught me that I’m still alive.” An allusion to her time in a Covid-induced coma, Meredith walks on an actual beach; it’s a moment of serenity as she sprinkles petals around the sand.

Krista Vernoff-run dramas will return for Season 18 and Season 5, respectively
“Grey’s Anatomy” and “Station 19” will each return for another season at ABC, the network announced Monday.
The long-running medical drama has been picked up for an 18th season to air in 2021-22, along with a fifth season of the firehouse spinoff. Both shows are run by showrunner Krista Vernoff.
“The writers, directors, casts and crews of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ and ‘Station 19’ worked so hard to bring these shows to life this past season,” Vernoff said. “Keeping each other safe on set while paying tribute to the front-line heroes and first responders has been a challenge and a privilege. I’ve been truly blown away — particularly by our tireless crews — as they reinvented the TV-making wheel. Thank you to ABC and ABC Signature for the support and extraordinary partnership through this unprecedented season. We are so grateful for the opportunity to tell more stories.

Meredith Grey is fighting for her life.
Grey's Anatomy Season 17 Episode 6 picked up with our titular surgeon in a better state than she's been in recent episodes.
Unfortunately, all of that came crashing down when she collapsed and, against her wishes, was put on a ventilator.
It was a wild conclusion for the 2020 run of episodes, but it also raises a lot of questions about whether Ellen Pompeo's alter ego will survive and if the series will continue beyond its current one.
Executive producers Andy Reaser and Meg Marinis spoke with Entertainment Tonight and opened up about some of the biggest developments.
Maranis admitted the writers have been "on fire" when it comes to pitching stories for the current season, which is taking place during the Covid-19 pandemic.

It is killing way too many patients and is now threatening to take away one of their own, Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo). Yet, through her illness, Meredith’s Covid dreams have provided light as, walking on a beach, she gets to meet some of her favorite people.
The beach motif kicked off in the season premiere with the jaw-dropping return of Grey’s original male lead Patrick Dempsey as Meredith’s late husband Derek Shepherd, who has appeared in her dreams ever since. It's the big day for Teddy and Owen, but it looks like it will not be going off without a hitch.
Grey's Anatomy Season 16 Episode 21 -- the premature season finale -- will attempt to bring things full circle for Teddy and Owen.
However, Tom seems like he doesn't want the wedding to go ahead. If you watch Grey's Anatomy online, you know that would make sense.
Tom is madly in love with Teddy and the pair have been having an affair of late.
However, Teddy decided on Grey's Anatomy Season 16 Episode 20 that Owen was the man for her, and asked him if they could rush the wedding.
In the latest sneak peek from ABC, Owen and Tom are bickering because Tom has yet to approve Owen's time off, claiming that he didn't think it was urgent.
Teddy tries to play the expedited wedding off as a small gathering of family in the backyard.

Well we certainly weren't expecting that casting stunt to turn out to be quite so...ridiculous. As part of ABC's Cast from the Past week, Grey's Anatomy welcomed Alyssa Milano and Holly Marie Combs, who starred together on Charmed, where Grey's executive producers Krista Vernoff and Andy Reaser were writers back in the day. They played sisters once again, and spent the entire episode bickering over what to do about their brain dead sister, who had fallen into a construction site and was now a patient at Pac-North under the care of Richard Webber. They argued forever and finally agreed to pull the plug, and then after a heartfelt moment where they said goodbye, and instructed Heather to go...

Tgit fans can breathe a sigh of relief, as ABC has renewed the Shonda Rhimes-produced “Grey’s Anatomy,” “How to Get Away With Murder” and “Station 19.”
While the “Grey’s” firefighter spinoff and Viola Davis-led “Htgawm” were picked up for a third and sixth year, respectively, “Grey’s” — the Ellen Pompeo-led medical drama that started it all — got a two-season renewal for Seasons 16 and 17.
“Grey’s Anatomy” showrunner Krista Vernoff will pull double duty running the upcoming season of “Station 19,” following the exit of former showrunner Stacy McKee.
“I’m thrilled to continue at the helm of ‘Grey’s Anatomy,’ and I’m honored and energized by the opportunity to run ‘Station 19,’ as well. To expand upon the world Stacy McKee created, and further merge it with the world of ‘Grey’s,’ is an exciting challenge,” Vernoff said.

ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy will definitely earn having the phrase “long-running” in front of it now. Thursday’s episode, “We Didn’t Start the Fire,” will be its 332nd, officially making the ABC Studios series, now in the midst of its 15th season, the longest-running primetime medical drama in TV history. It is passing NBC’s ER.
Grey’s, which had its season order increased in January to 25 episodes, remains a strong earner for ABC in ratings performance, popularity and longevity. It went into its winter hiatus averaging a 3.1 adults 18-49 rating (Live+7) to rank as the network’s No. 1 TV show of the 2018-2019 season in the demo. It also regularly ranks among the top most binged series on streaming.

Grey’s Anatomy will likely be back for a sixteenth season.
Karey Burke, President of ABC Entertainment, during her first TCA session after taking on her new role in November, discussed the status of the medical drama.
While it was widely presumed that the show, which is ABC’s highest rated series, would continue for season 16 after star Ellen Pompeo signed a two year-deal with ABC Studios, it had not been previously announced.
Burke told Deadline that she was “planning for more”.
“We’re thrilled with Grey’s performance; I was visiting the set earlier this week. I believe the status is that we’re in conversations about continuing the show,” she said.
Earlier this month, ABC ordered three additional episodes of Shonda Rhimes’ drama for the current 15th season, bringing the total season order to 25 episodes.

ABC has ordered three additional episodes of “Grey’s Anatomy,” bringing the drama’s 15th season to a total of 25 episodes.
The super-sized episode order is the show’s largest since its third season, which also ran for 25 episodes back in 2006-07. The show’s breakout second season, which included a hugely watched post-Super Bowl episode, boasted a whopping 27 episodes.
With a midseason return set for Jan. 17, “Grey’s” is on track to become the longest-running primetime medical drama in TV history later this year.

ABC has ordered three additional episodes of Shonda Rhimes’ Grey’s Anatomy for the current 15th season, bringing the total season order to 25 episodes.
This is a pretty remarkable achievement for a serialized drama series. While 7-10 episodes a year is the norm for such shows on cable and streaming these days, Grey’s Anatomy has aired 24 or more episodes in every full season it has had. That is 13 seasons and counting. As far as I can tell, that is a record for a primetime series in the past couple of decades, even edging procedurals like the venerable Law & Order dramas which have all produced less than 10 24-plus-episode seasons.
What’s more, doing so many episodes has not dented Grey’s Anatomy‘s performance, popularity or longevity. The series currently...

While the actors who portray our favorite characters get the majority of fan adoration, more and more, writers and show runners are rightfully getting their place in the spotlight. Sure, Ali Liebert brings Betty’s swagger on Bomb Girls, but writers dream up the lines that cut through us like a warm knife through maple butter. Paige McCullers would be just a footnote — a field hockey penalty — if Pretty Little Liars’ show runner hadn’t seen her potential and gone with her gut. Well, #BooRadleyVanCullen trended again last night — for the third time during season 3B. Just, you know, the most social media savvy show ever, the most tweeted about program of all time, and AfterEllen readers continuing to be the best thing about the best thing. And here's why:
*whispers "Paige McCullers" into the wind. #BooRadleyVanCullen #pll

Jesus Christ! Mona is a walking, talking Restricted Section of the Hogwarts Library and she's just taunting Hermione #BooRadleyVanCullen
— Lucy Hallowell (@lucyhallowell) March 6, 2013
Omg Mona you are essentially Spencer's evil angel. #booradleyvancullen
— Ryley Pogensky (@BoizeBite) March 6, 2013
Rewarding kindness? Like how you rewarded Hanna's kindness by mauling her over wiht a car? #booradleyvancullen

I bet Mona's favorite line of scripture is Hosea 8:7 -- "They shall reap the whirlwind." #booradleyvancullen

Remember when Pretty Little Liars was going to be an innocent summer diversion, a guilty little pleasure? And now it's a perpetual murder spree of psyche-bending proportions! Last night was probably the most terrified I have ever been watching this show; thank God I had your #BooRadleyVanCullen shenanigans to keep me safe!
Emily, how many more elevator shafts do you have to almost die in to realize there are no coincidences in Rosewood!?! #BooRadleyVanCullen
— Kelly Smith (@purplestreak13) February 27, 2013
It's okay, Ezria, you aren't the only couple in Rosewood who don't know how to parent. #booradleyvancullen
— Holly Gale (@h_f_gale) February 27, 2013
#Ppl:Spencer is going bonkers,Emily is meeting up with a creepy dude and Aria is on a completely different show. #BooRadleyVanCullen
— AaruShay (@aarushi_) February 27, 2013
Spencer's transformation into Mona is complete. She can now officially date Hanna. Sorry #teamsparia #booradleyvancullen

Previously on Pretty Little Liars, Spencer took away Mona's girlfriend and so Mona took away Spencer's boyfriend. Mona bested Spencer at her best thing (Academic Decathlon) and so Spencer bested Mona at her best thing (Adrenalized Hyperreality Olympics). Mona tried to kill Spencer, and so Spencer tried to kill Mona. Emily uncovered various clues, all of which pointed to Detective Wilden fathering a child with Ali, and the last of which very nearly ended in Jason getting crushed by a falling elevator. Hanna ordered a name badge that says, "Hello, My Name is Gaydar." And Aria kissed her boyfriend's brother due to poor self-control and Edna St. Vincent Millay.
The Liars figured there was no reason to stick around the hospital after Jason shrugged off his casts and neck brace and IVs and jumped out of the window,...

Did last night's Pretty Little Liars feel like a love letter? I think it felt like a love letter. Paily and Sparia and naked Spencer and Diane Fitzgerald and Ashley Marin fully, purposefully running under Detective Wilden with her car. Honestly, if someone had punched Byron in the face, my joy would have been complete. Like, in life. My life would have been complete.

And, of course, these #BooRadleyVanCullen tweets made me laugh so hard last night:
Random but how rich are the Hastings computerized showers and shit they livin' liek the Jetsons. #BooRadleyVanCullen
— Aj(@Lovefool92) February 20, 2013
"Mom, what's wrong?" "You may have heard, I killed a guy." #BooRadleyVanCullen
— Nicole Sam (@njnic23) February 20, 2013
Spencer killing for her girls? Gayyyyyyyy! #booradleyvancullen
— Shaye (@sillyshaye) February 20, 2013
I'd like to see A try to win me over with a flower wreath. (Broderick Bode at St. Mungo's. Never forget.

The biggest surprise on last night's Pretty Little Liars wasn't that Jason Dilaurentis fell down an elevator shaft and survived; it was that sweet, sweet Emily Fields is somehow even sexier when she gets mad.
Here are some of our favorite tweets of the night.
We gave AfterEllen fans Paige and Emily, and all they want is Spencer!
— Andy Reaser (@AndyReaser) February 13, 2013
Go for the eyes, Spence! Make Jennabot 2.0! #booradleyvancullen
— Jordan Durrett (@MissusFixIt) February 13, 2013
He may not be her type, but in a grey t-shirt and messy ponytail, Spencer you are freaking lesbian catnip, lady. #BooRadleyVanCullen
— Lucy Hallowell (@lucyhallowell) February 13, 2013
I would pay all the money to see Paige's Dark Knight duke it out with Spencer's Riddler. Hollywood, that one was free. #BooRadleyVanCullen
— Samantha Gurash (@SamanthaB_G) February 13, 2013
Spencer looks better smack in the middle of a mental breakdown than most people do on prom night.
