On Tuesday, former New York Rep. George Santos (R-New York) announced that he had terminated his independent campaign for a congressional seat.
Santos, expelled from the House last year, had expressed his intention to run as an independent candidate for New York’s First Congressional District just last month.
A recent campaign filing showed that he had raised $0 in the first quarter.
In a statement released on X, Santos explained his withdrawal. He cited concerns over potential vote-splitting with Rep. Nick Lalota (R-New York), which could ultimately result in the Democrats securing the seat. Lalota was among the Republicans who voted to expel Santos in December after the revelation of federal criminal charges against him. Santos pleaded not guilty to the fraud charges and is scheduled to trial in September.

Disgraced former congressman George Santos appeared in federal court Thursday afternoon, but for once he wasn’t the defendant. That honor went to Jimmy Kimmel.
The pretrial conference, which Kimmel did not attend, offered a preview of what’s come when/if the case actually goes to trial.
Santos is suing Kimmel, ABC, and Disney for fraud, alleging that Kimmel misrepresented himself when he commissioned over a dozen Cameo videos from Santos in December.
The videos, purchased for $500 a piece, saw Santos reading from outlandish scripts and were aired on Jimmy Kimmel Live! under the rubric of a feature Kimmel dubbed “Will Santos Say It?”
Santos alleges that Kimmel’s on-air use of the videos violated his copyright, and broke Cameo’s terms of service. Santos also argues that Kimmel committed fraud when he used aliases to commission the videos “for the sole purpose of capitalizing on and ridiculing” Santos.

Pepe.In 2009, a male hippopotamus was killed in Colombia by German hunters under authorization of the local authorities. Nicknamed Pepe by the press—after Los Pepes, a paramilitary group that opposed Pablo Escobar—the hippo was part of a small herd of pachyderms originally brought to the country from southern Africa in the late 1970s by the notorious drug lord. Escobar kept the hippos on his estate until 1993 when he was gunned down by US and Colombian special forces, whereupon they were left to wander free from the property. Today, there are over 100 of these so-called “cocaine hippos” living in Colombia’s Magdalena River Valley.Pepe (2024), the fourth feature by Dominican director Nelson Carlo de los Santos Arias, takes this stranger-than-fiction story as the jumping-off point for reimagining Pepe’s journey from the frontiers of South West Africa to the tropics of Estación Cocorná, where a pair of fishermen attempt...

Former President Donald Trump is still upset about the joke Jimmy Kimmel made at the 96th Academy Awards at his expense.
On March 10, Oscar host Kimmel responded to Trump after he made a post about him on Truth Social during the ceremony.
“Has there Ever been a Worse Host than Jimmy Kimmel at The Oscars,” the former president wrote. “His opening was that of a less than average person trying too hard to be something which he is not, and never can be.”
“Get rid of Kimmel and perhaps replace him with another washed up, but cheap, ABC ‘talent,’ George Slopanopoulos [Stephanopoulos],” he added. “He would make everybody on stage look bigger, stronger, and more glamorous.”
“Also a really bad politically correct show tonight, and for years – Disjointed, boring, and very unfair,” Trump claimed. “Why don’t they just give the Oscars to those that deserve them. Maybe that way their...

We were introduced to New Jersey resident Arianna Santos in the “Auditions: Day Two” episode of “So You Think You Can Dance.” “My mother was a dancer when she was younger, and she actually started teaching me salsa. That’s how I got into Latin ballroom,” Santos explained. She also has an older sister who was recently diagnosed with ovarian cancer, and “having her push in her life has helped me push in my life.” Was she able to come through with a worthy performance and advance to the next round of the competition? No … then yes.

Pedro Pascal has been acting professionally since the 1990s, but there's no denying he's been exploding in popularity over the last few years. Not only is he the titular star of "The Mandalorian," but he's also Joel Miller on "The Last Of Us," the new Reed Richards in Marvel's reboot of "Fantastic Four," and will also appear in Ridley Scott's highly-anticipated "Gladiator 2." But what makes Pascal such an endearing performer is that he's not limited to just playing huge roles — he also loves popping up into random movies and TV shows to have a little fun. One of the latest examples is in Tricia Cooke and Ethan Coen's "Drive-Away Dolls," where trailers depicted Pedro Pascal as Santos, a mysterious man carrying a briefcase who winds up as a "suave head in a hatbox."

Genre movies have a well-earned reputation for being exploitative. Since the dawn of the "B" movie, genre films have been marketed with their exploitation elements up front, the better to entice people to stay in the theater or attend in the first place.
The more genre movies have been reappraised, studied, and eventually raised to the level of revered classics themselves, the more audiences and academics have realized that these films serve numerous important causes within the culture. They often provide the discussion of and investigation into thorny social and political issues that a straightforward drama would have trouble dealing with. They also can be utilized as a powerfully rich tool for normalization, where the marginalized can be the protagonists without having to justify or apologize for themselves, thereby bringing that group closer to the majority.

Director Ethan Coen – collaborating with wife Tricia Cooke instead of brother Joel – delivers a disposable but not entirely unentertaining lesbian-centered crime caper comedy in Drive-Away Dolls. With its raunchy sex and vivid violence, the film is more an affectionate tribute to hard R drive-in B movies that more resembles something from the mind of Russ Meyer than anything resembling smart, Oscar-y movies like the Coen Brothers’ No Country For Old Men, Big Lebowski, Barton Fink, Fargo, Blood Simple etc.
Drive-Away Dolls definitely retains the quirkiness of the Coen brand, but key inspirations this time were Meyers’ Motorpsycho, Bad Girls Go To Hell and even something really good like ’50s noir Kiss Me Deadly, with which it shares some plot details.
But “plot” doesn’t really matter much here. Coen and Cooke throw everything against the wall to see what sticks. If it makes narrative sense, it likely is an accident.

Jimmy Kimmel appeared mighty offended about being sued by serial fabulist George Santos for alleged fraud, judging by his comedy routine on Tuesday night.
“Did anyone else get sued by George Santos this weekend? I am currently embroiled in what may be the most preposterous lawsuit of all time,” Kimmel declared. He was reacting to the former congressman bringing a lawsuit with a request for $750,000 plus damages against Kimmel for alleged fraud.
Kimmel said Santos brought the legal action against the late night TV host, his company and the Walt Disney company because “we did a nice thing, because we supported him by ordering his Cameo videos.”
Since Santos was expelled from the U.S. House of Representatives, he has filmed Cameo videos for people that have appeared on social media. In December, Kimmel joined in and anonymously made his own requests to Santos’ Cameo account, asking for personalized videos...

Expelled former Rep. George Santos (R-New York) is suing television host Jimmy Kimmel over the use of his Cameo clips.
Cameo is an online platform where users, typically well-known public figures, are paid to produce videos by fans to say something on camera. According to Santos, Kimmel paid Santos to make dozens of videos without knowing they would be featured on his talk show. The claim was stated in a complaint filed on Saturday to the Manhattan federal court.
Santos was unaware that the videos, priced at $500 each, were requested by Kimmel who allegedly used an alias. The suit against Kimmel cites violations of Cameo’s terms of service, Santos’ copyright and potential fraud.

Former Rep. George Santos has filed a civil lawsuit against Jimmy Kimmel, claiming that the late-night television host used fake names to request Cameo videos from the ex-congressman and then misused the clips on his talk show.
Santos sued Kimmel on Saturday for copyright infringement, fraud, breach of contract and unjust enrichment, and is seeking at least $750,000 in damages, The Hill reports. Last night on Long Island a relatively inoffensive, centrist establishment Democrat triumphed over the charismatic political newcomer in a swingy suburban district in a race that was dominated by a debate over immigration. Tom Suozzi’s victory in New York’s 3rd Congressional District over Republican Mazi Melesa Pilip is a balm for voters anxious about Joe Biden’s anemic approval ratings and his performance in head-to-heads polls against former President Donald Trump in a general election race poised to be a referendum on border policy.

Democrats flipped George Santos’ former congressional seat tonight, narrowing Republicans’ House majority in a special election that got an unusual amount of attention from national media.
Thomas Suozzi, who formerly held the seat, defeated Republican Mazi Pilip, the Associated Press projected.
Some cable news networks covered the special election as a bellwether for the November election. Republicans elevated the issue of immigration and the border as the top concern in the race, something that they are doing at the national level. The district covers Queens and Nassau counties.
News network coverage of the results as if it were another night of the presidential primary. CNN dispatched correspondents to local precincts and carried live the results of the counting from individual ballot machines. MSNBC also provided comprehensive coverage with Steve Kornacki’s voter breakdown, and Fox News’ Hannity featured a box telling viewers that they were monitoring the results.

To the extent that anything “news-y” came out of the 18-minute “exposé,” you could maybe look to Santos’ insistence of rampant fraud in the halls of Congress. “If you were to put them all under the same scrutiny I was put under, you’d fucking vacate the whole goddamn building,” he said.

George Santos Talks Donald Trump, Hermès and Political Future in Interview With Ziwe: “I’ll Be Back”
George Santos may have been expelled from the U.S. Congress, but he’s not going anywhere, the disgraced politician told comedian and interviewer Ziwe on Monday.
“I’ll be back. I’m 35. They’re all in their 50s. I’ll outlive them, each and every one of them,” the disgraced Republican politician told Ziwe during a sit-down interview on her YouTube channel about his political future. Santos added he’ll remain in the media spotlight, whatever his future, “because people want the content.”
When asked about possibly going away to prison, given criminal charges he faces, Santos shot back: “That’s a below the belt.” He faces trial next year in New York after being indicted on 23 counts of stealing from his campaign and lying to Congress. Santos pleaded not guilty, but is reportedly in talks on a possible plea deal.
He was expelled Dec. 1 as a U.S.

Ziwe has found her latest iconic guest: George Santos.
After teasing a collab with the expelled congressman, comedian and celebrity interviewer Ziwe released her sit-down interview with Santos on YouTube on Monday morning.
Ziwe’s “Znn” interview, a CNN spoof with her own Ziwe News Network, began with onscreen text saying “No congressman were paid in the making of this interview even though George asked three times.” She then listed civil rights icons and asked Santos to say what they meant to him. The list included Marsha P. Johnson, James Baldwin, Harvey Milk and Bowen Yang’s “SNL” impression of Santos — which he said deserves an Egot.
When asked if he would want Yang to play him in HBO’s movie about him, Santos said “that movie is not ever going to happen. That book has no perspective of me or anybody close to me. It’s fucking fiction,” referring...

Forget Cameo requests, disgraced former Congressman George Santos is now asking for more, according to Jimmy Kimmel.
The Jimmy Kimmel Live! host shared on Monday night’s episode that Santos has demanded Kimmel pay him $20,000 for playing several of his Cameos on the late night talk show.
“[George Santos] has claimed he’s made more money in seven days than he did in Congress for a year, and part of that money came from me. I sent him a bunch of crazy video requests because I wanted to see what he would read and what he wouldn’t read,” Kimmel said. “I showed some of them on the air on Thursday, and now he’s demanding $20,000 from me to be paid a commercial rate.”
The host added, “Can you imagine if I get sued by George Santos for fraud? How good would that be? It would be like a dream come true.

Earlier this month, comedian Ziwe reached out to George Santos on X (formerly known as Twitter) to ask the disgraced ex-congressman if he would be interested in a pay-per-view interview? “You’d be an iconic guest,” she said in a Dec. 2 post. Santos seemed into the idea, responding a day later with what seemed like an official confirmation, “Let’s do it Ziwe.”
Consider it done.
Ziwe took to Instagram on Monday to share a photo of her on a set with Santos while he holds a tan Hermes Birkin bag with cash spilling out of the top and a copy of her new book, Black Friend: Essays. In response to a follower who asked “where do I send my cash,” Ziwe replied that the interview special would be posted on YouTube where it will available “free for The People.”

During his time as a congressman, George Santos‘ yearly salary was $174,000. However, even after becoming the first person in two decades to be expelled from Congress, he seems to have discovered a more profitable career as a Cameo user.
The video platform Cameo allows its customers to pay celebrities of different levels of infamy to create personalized video messages for their friends.
The platform allows celebrities to make millions of dollars with minimal work, which seems perfect for Santos.
Santos’ videos were originally underpriced at $75 and since then he has continued to raise the price.
Despite having raised the price to $300 per video, he continues to receive hundreds of requests.
The former congressman is currently on his way to making a lot more money than he did as a congressman.

John Oliver celebrated the expulsion of George Santos from Congress this week and suggested he was better suited for Bravo.
On the latest episode of HBO’s Last Week Tonight, Oliver was giddy that “they finally kicked George Santos out” of the House of Representatives.
“I say finally because it was their third attempt at doing that,” Oliver joked. “Apparently it takes three times to get rid of him — a sort of reverse Beetlejuice situation, if you will.”
Oliver says that what pushed Congress to kick Santos out of his position finally was due to the “scathing” ethics committee report that concluded the former U.S. representative used campaign funds to pay for luxuries.
“The truth is, this man never belonged in Congress, he belongs on Bravo,” Oliver later said.

Much of America breathed a sigh of relief as former U.S. Representative George Santos was expelled from Congress this week. As the list of alleged crimes grew to the point that not even a slim GOP majority was worth keeping him around for, there’s only one person who lost more than Santos himself: Bowen Yang. Because Saturday Night Live‘s cold open this week might be the last time Yang gets to play the cartoonishly dishonest congressperson.
The sketch opens with Wolf Blitzer as played by Sarah Sherman, who gets some sharp digs in at Elon Musk before throwing to a press conference.
