Before he went on to make HBO’s hit series The White Lotus, Mike White would partner with Jack Black for the charmingly funny music-themed comedy School of Rock. The movie drew on Black’s affinity for the music genre as he would previously play as one-half of the rock duo Tenacious D with Kyle Glass. While he’s currently obsessed with Minecraft after his time filming the movie adaptation, The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Black’s eager to return to the School of Rock for another movie.
According to THR, Black would recently speak with the publication Joe, when he said, “I wish there’d be a School of Rock 2 Electric Boogaloo.” Black would also love to see White return to write the movie, “You know Mike White wrote the first one and he’s a genius. And we’d have to have Mike White back in the saddle,...

Jack Black has been in his fair share of hit movies over the years, from "School of Rock" to "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" and everything in between. The man has been a bonafide movie star for decades. But even the biggest stars have to suffer a misfire every once in a while and, for Black, one of his biggest misfires was also a very personal endeavor. 2006's "Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny" brought the rock duo of Jack Black and Kyle Gass to the big screen with initially disastrous results. Yet, time has been kind to the film as it has become a true cult favorite.
Black recently spoke about the film's legacy in the latest issue of Total Film magazine. The actor described "Pick of Destiny" as his baby. Not only because it's the only movie he wrote personally, but because it was based on an emotional truth,...

Before Jack Black took the pop culture world by storm with a breakout role in 2000's "High Fidelity," the actor, musician, and comedian had his doubts about the movie. In the latest issue of Total Film magazine, Black reflects back on his decades-long career and admits that he initially passed on the role of music junkie Barry over fears that it might negatively impact his own real-life music career.
"My friend, John Cusack, was like, 'You would be perfect for this role, Barry, in 'High Fidelity,'" Black recalled (Cusack starred in and co-wrote the movie). "I was hesitant because I was like, I don't know if I want to make a movie about rock and roll, and someone who is a critic of rock and roll." Though "High Fidelity" is a music-lovers' classic now, the film based on a Nick Hornby book features some painfully authentic music snobbery,...

A funny thing happened on the way to the presumed two-horse awards-season race between 2023 toon feature juggernauts. Netflix’s Nimona picked a fight today with Gkids’ Hayao Miyazaki hit The Boy and the Heron and Sony’s global smash Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, scoring a leading nine Annie Awards nominations. The others managed seven noms apiece.
All three are up for the marquee Best Feature prize along with Toho’s anime Suzume, which also landed seven Annie noms, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem from Paramount and Nickelodeon Film, which got six.
Notably missing from the top toon feature race is Disney/Pixar’s Elemental, which also scooped six nominations from Asifa-Hollywood. Meanwhile, Universal/Illumination The Super Mario Bros. Movie — the No. 2 film of 2023, which plumbed $1.36 billion worldwide — was clogged up with just a single Annie nom for Jack Black’s voice work as the villainous Bowser.

Anya Taylor-Joy was “super starstruck” over meeting her “Super Mario Bros. Movie” co-star Jack Black.
The “Queen’s Gambit” Golden Globe winner admitted that her childhood love of “School of Rock” made Black a real-life rockstar to her, especially as a fan of his band Tenacious D.
“At the school I went to when I first moved to London they would play ‘School of Rock’ every Friday,” Taylor-Joy told Buzzfeed UK. “At that time, I didn’t really speak much English, if any, so that and ‘Harry Potter’ and ‘Jumanji’ are like how I learned English!”
Taylor-Joy was born in Florida, raised in Argentina, and later moved to the U.K. at age six. She now stars alongside “School of Rock” icon Black in “The Super Mario Bros.” animated movie, but they did not meet until the press tour.

Bob Odenkirk is a lucky guy. For starters, he’s managed to cultivate a career path that spans multiple genres. His cult Nineties sketch series Mr Show arguably kickstarted modern alternative comedy, an area Odenkirk has subtly shaped in the years since by giving creative breaks to the likes of Tenacious D and Tim and Eric. Then a successful rebrand as a dramatic actor led to his unforgettable conman-turned-lawyer Saul Goodman in Breaking Bad and its prequel series Better Call Saul, and his surprise turn as an unassuming neighbourhood hardman in 2021 punch-a-thon Nobody. As if that wasn’t enough, he’s also cheated death.
He was partway through filming the final season of Saul when it happened. As production paused and the crew began setting up a new shot, Odenkirk returned to the exercise bike he often used while watching Chicago Cubs baseball games between scenes. Suddenly he fell to his knees,...

Tenacious D will release a new album and a new animated web show, both titled Post-Apocalypto, this fall. The six-part series will premiere on YouTube September 28th, while the album arrives November 2nd via Columbia Records.
The band shared a teaser for the Post-Apocalypto show, which opens with a nod to the infamous Indiana Jones “nuke the fridge” moment, with Jack Black and Kyle Gass emerging from a refrigerator to discover the world has been transformed into an apocalyptic wasteland. “What have we done to Mother Earth?” Black asks with plenty of melodramatic gravitas.
