For the first time since 2019 BC (Before Covid), Christmas is starting to look like Christmas again. Employees will humiliate themselves at festive work parties. Boxing has always transferred well to the screen because it is an individual sport with individual stories. Boxers may have family, friends, managers, and a training corner, but aside from ringside yells of "cover-up!" and "go to the body!" these fighters are on their own. This isn't tennis or golf, and the stakes are higher than returning your opponent's serve or knocking a small white ball into a hole. This is boxing, a game of rules-based violence that sanitizes aggression into a test of speed, power, tactics, and strategy.
It is not just the ring that's fertile dramatic ground, either. Much of the intensity comes from these fighters' lives, which are often marked by crime, poverty, and hardship. It is no wonder that cinema has seen so many boxing films in its 120+ year history, producing a great deal of wheat but also a fair amount of chaff. To help you navigate this broad oeuvre,...

AMC has picked up hit BBC One drama “The Salisbury Poisonings,” based on the true story of the 2018 Novichok poisonings in the U.K.
The Fremantle-distributed drama stars Anne-Marie Duff (“His Dark Materials”), Rafe Spall (“Trying”), MyAnna Buring (“The Witcher”) and Jonny Harris (“Jawbone”). It tells the story of the British city of Salisbury, which became the epicentre of one of the country’s biggest political events of the century when former double agent and spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia were poisoned via a lethal nerve agent called Novichok, which can kill 20,000 people with just half a teaspoon.
Within four days, hundreds of traces were found across the city, and, when things were thought to be under control, a perfume bottle containing the nerve agent was discovered, throwing the investigation into disarray.
The four-part series, which enjoyed the biggest overnight launch of a new drama in the U.

It takes a lot to really impress me when it comes to television. It’s not that hard to get me to like a show, or I’d just be in the wrong business, but to truly get me to sit up and take notice (and want to binge something), you’ve got to be doing something very different, and you’ve got to be doing it well.
CBC‘s Still Standing is such an effort, and if there’s a cooler show on television, anywhere, I’d like someone to try to convince me of the fact.
If you only know Jonny Harris as Constable Crabtree on Murdoch Mysteries, you’re really missing out, because he’s a hell of a comedian, and he’s been all over the comedy circuit in Canada (including the Halifax and Winnipeg Comedy Festivals). Really, if you’re in Canada, I’m probably not talking to you.

Murdoch Mysteries is one of the best gems to come out of Canadian television in quite a while, and the fourth season is now available on Blu-Ray. Whether you’re a fan already, or new to the show, I have a great giveaway to go along with this release. The first season and the fourth season on Blu-Ray.
The show takes place in Toronto in 1895, and features William Murdoch as a detective/scientist who is keen on incorporating the latest techniques (including the “finger marks” he is so fond of) into his investigations.
Season 4 kicks off with Murdoch butting heads with the new pathologist who has taken Dr. Ogden’s place. A body has been dismembered, and Murdoch has to find some answers using only a couple of pieces of a body which have been encased in cement. It starts off the season well, and gives us the opportunity to miss Dr.

I don't know what's with Newfoundlanders, but they seem to not only enjoy making coming-of-age stories, but also excel in it. Obviously, Adriana Maggs's Grown Up Movie Star isn't perfect, but it sure has its charms.
Set in Newfoundland, a Canadian province in the Atlantic Ocean, the film is about coming out of the closet as much as it is about the transition from adolescence to adulthood. In fact, Shawn's wife (Maggie Meyer) left him in order to make it big in Hollywood.
