Last month, we learned that Paramount Home Entertainment would be releasing a five film 4K box set called Paramount Scares Vol. 1, which would include Rosemary’s Baby (1968) and Pet Sematary (1989), plus a pair of recent box office successes, Crawl (2019) and Smile (2022). Intriguingly, Paramount chose to keep the fifth film in the set a mystery… But now that we’ve reached the set’s October 24th release date, it has been revealed that the fifth movie in the set is Tim Burton’s 2007 film Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, making its 4K debut! If you’re interested in adding the Paramount Scares Vol. 1 set to your collection, copies can be purchased at This Link.
Directed by Burton from a screenplay by John Logan, Sweeney Todd is based on the stage musical by Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler. The stage musical was itself based on the play Sweeney Todd by Christopher Bond.

We reported earlier this week that Laura Michelle Kelly was headed back to Broadway in Finding Neverland, via a NY Times scoop. Today, producer Harvey Weinstein confirmed that Olivier Award winner Laura Michelle Kelly Mary Poppins and three-time Tony Award-nominee Carolee Carmello Parade, who played the roles of Sylvia Llewelyn Davis and Madame du Maurier, respectively, in Finding Neverland when it premiered at the American Repertory Theatre earlier this year, will reprise their roles on Broadway.

Not that there’s anything wrong with that. Well, a few things, maybe.
It’s not at all hard to understand why Harvey Weinstein turned to Diane Paulus to overhaul Finding Neverland, the musical based on Miramax’s 2004 movie starring Johnny Depp as Peter Pan creator J.M Barrie. Paulus brings a broad catholicity of taste to her work as artistic director of the non-profit American Repertory Theatre, and that wide-ranging sensibility has led to her own souped-up, physically dazzling revivals of Hair and Pippin, both of which moved to Broadway.
When a 2012 tryout in Leicester, England under the leadership of Rob Ashford was met with yawns, Weinstein sent Finding Neverland back to the drawing board. In addition to hiring Paulus, he replaced Allan Knee (who wrote The Man Who Was Peter Pan, the basis for the film) with James Graham as book writer. U.K. pop-music specialists Gary Barlow...

We're getting even more Peter Pan! The New York Times reports that Finding Neverland, a musical based on the 2004 film about Peter Pan author J.M. Barrie (played by Johnny Depp), will open for the first time on Broadway this March. The high-profile musical marks Harvey Weinstein's first time as lead producer on a theatrical project, and it has been in the works for some time: After a tryout production drew mixed reviews back in 2012, Weinstein scrapped an earlier version of the script and hired a new team, helmed by Tony-winning director Diane Paulus (Pippin, Hair), to rework it. This is the first time a firm Broadway date has been announced, although many were predicting it after Jennifer Hudson performed a song from the production at this year's Tony Awards. The cast for the Broadway production remains Tba, although a tryout production starring musical theater vets Laura Michelle Kelly and...

★★☆☆☆When done right, nothing gets people out of their seats and dancing down the aisles (or in their living rooms) than a well-executed sing-a-long. In recent years, thanks to the success of Mamma Mia!, the musical has had something of a renaissance. Mark Lamprell's Goddess (2013), an Australian-produced effort based on the stage show Sinksongs, is the latest to try to grab the hearts of musical lovers. In it, despondent housewife Elspeth (Laura Michelle Kelly) is fed up of life. She's been denied her dreams of becoming a due to her husband, James (former Boyzone star Ronan Keating), continuously called away in his job as a marine biologist (!?), leaving her to care for their twin sons.

Adapted from screenwriter Joanna Weinberg’s stage play Sinksongs, this Mark Lamprell musical Goddess begins with a swooping shot of our leading lady Elspeth Dickens, imitating The Sound of Music as she runs through the fields. A nod, instantly, to one of the films that illuminate the genre – though it also works as a slight reminder that this nonsensical piece merely pales in comparison.
Elspeth (Laura Michelle Kelly) is a dedicated stay-at-home mother to her two young boys, almost single-handedly raising the troublesome duo while her husband James (Ronan Keating) works away from home. To keep herself entertained, she sets up a webcam in her kitchen, broadcasting her when cooking, cleaning – and singing. As more and more visitors tune in, her reputation builds and career opportunities come her way. Suddenly the tables are turned, as she prepares to set off for work, and James returns home to look after the kids.

Stay-at-home mother-of-two Elspeth Dickens (Laura Michelle Kelly) escapes the monotony of living on a remote Australian farm by singing about her humdrum life on a kitchen web-cam. However, her internet laments about her sorry lot go viral, bringing her to the attention of advertising bigwig Cassandra (Magda Szubanksi). A bottom-flashing Ronan Keating brings aboard some twinkly-eyed Irish charm as Elspeth's absentee sea-going, whale-watching husband.
