Even before the release of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, Dceu’s aspirations of building a cohesive, interconnected universe had come to an abrupt end with the prospect of a big-scale reboot spanning through upcoming live-action and animated ventures. For fans who grew up in the late 1990s, when DC’s diversified animated ventures dominated the pop culture scene, or even earlier than that, when in printed comics DC exemplified absolute dominance in sheer variety and quality of titles, it was inconceivable that its first attempt at live-action world-building would meet a disastrous end—let alone not even come close to replicating the success of the aforementioned mediums. However, even amidst the haphazard, clueless continuity problems, poor reception, and mismanagement, there were silver linings in the form of some iconic moments scattered across sixteen movies and a TV series, which fans will surely remember in years to come. As we bid farewell to Dceu,...

2023 will go down as the year that the superhero movie bubble finally popped. Dating back to Sam Raimi's "Spider-Man" in 2002, Hollywood has been chasing the comic book movie dragon and, particularly since 2008 when the Marvel Cinematic Universe launched with "Iron Man," these movies have been the meat and potatoes of the box office. But this year's only outright successful live-action superhero film was "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" ($845 million worldwide). That narrative is not going to change with the release of "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom," sad to say.
The final entry in the Dceu, which launched in 2013 with Zack Snyder's "Man of Steel," was the big holiday release this year heading into the Christmas weekend. While the original "Aquaman" was the highest-grossing DC movie in history (making $1.15 billion worldwide in 2018), the sequel is not going to repeat that success. "Justice League Unlimited" is a pinnacle of superhero cartoons. Had its airing not intersected with my childhood, my fascination with comics probably wouldn't have blossomed the way it did.
The terrific final product wasn't a sign of the creators always working under ideal conditions, however. In the 2000s, Warner Bros. was quite particular about letting DC Comics characters appear in more than one show at a time, apparently out of concern that audiences would be confused by multiple versions of the same character -- hence the infamous "Bat-Embargo." 2004, the year that "Justice League Unlimited" began, also saw the premiere of "The Batman," a solo cartoon about, well, Batman, but set in a different continuity. Batman's villains and supporting cast were therefore off-limits to the "Justice League" team.

Gal Gadot‘s portrayal of Wonder Woman made her the leading lady of the Dceu, but she faced some stiff competition to book the part.
The actress joined the DC Comics franchise alongside Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill and was lauded as one of the brightest lights for her portrayal of Diana Prince in 2016′s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Since then, Gal has reprised the role in several projects, including two solo movies. There have been ongoing questions about her future in the franchise.
She’s synonymous with the character, but Gal had to audition for it alongside several other stars.
In fact, we can say for a fact that she faced off against at least three actresses to land the part. Of them, two opened up about their experience auditioning. One of them even explained why they knew that they “never” had a chance to land it.

In December 2018, Aquaman arrived with the amount of fanfare appropriate for the moment. It was the height of comic book culture, and one of its reigning kings, Jason Momoa, arrived at the movie’s blue carpet premiere with a golden trident. Full to the brim with bluster, he performed a ceremonial dance with members of the Maori community while wife Lisa Bonet and the couple’s kids stood in the wings. Stars Nicole Kidman and Amber Heard brought the glam and the shouts from photographers. After a raucous screening, the festivities then moved from the Chinese Theatre to the poolside afterparty at the Roosevelt Hotel.
The film would ultimately top $1 billion and stood as part of a zenith for comic book movies, in a year that included Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

The final chapter of the Dceu is coming to a close with “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” opening in theaters this holiday weekend.
At one point Michael Keaton shot a cameo scene for the movie, and then Ben Affleck shot a scene as well that even “Aquaman” headliner Jason Momoa posted on his social media back in July 2022.
“Reunited bruce and arthur. love u and miss u Ben WB studio tours just explored the backlot alright. busted on set all great things coming Aquaman 2 all my aloha j”

The Dceu (the DC Extended Universe) is coming to an end this week with “Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom” (read our review). From there, it’s being rebooted as the Dcu by DC Studios and its co-ceo filmmakers James Gunn and Peter Safran. From what we can all glean, about 95% of the old era—the Zack Snyder age of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, and Jason Momoa as Aquaman is being scrapped, and it seems Gunn has elected to keep elements of his “The Suicide Squad” like Peacemaker (John Cena) and Amanda Waller (Viola Davis).

Despite sporadic efforts to repair the disastrous and confusing continuity of DC Extended Universe, it was doomed to fail thanks to multiple problems which plagued the shared universe ranging from misinterpretation of source material, interference in creative vision to controversy surrounding actors. The early signs of mismanagement under the contemporary WB regime were apparent during the divisive reception of the first phase of Dceu, and as a result, the universe almost crash-landed after the poor reception of Justice League (Joss Whedon version) back in 2017. However, the one movie that almost single-handedly turned the proverbial tide in the favor of Dceu was James Wan’s Aquaman, which to date stands as the franchise’s most entertaining and highest-grossing entry. In a franchise where a crossover movie of three premier characters couldn’t meet expectations, Aquaman, formerly known as the bottom of ‘Merman’ jokes, became its savior.

DC Entertainment has some of the most iconic superheroes in modern fiction, including Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. These characters have been adapted and reimagined for the silver screen and small screen for decades, often boasting some of Hollywood's biggest names in front of and behind the camera. However, not every actor who's appeared in a DC movie has had a completely satisfying production experience or fully enjoy the final films that they star in. These sentiments are often attached to specific scenes, striking a negative chord for the actor involved for a myriad of reasons.
From intense creative disagreements on how their characters should be portrayed to thoroughly uncomfortable behind-the-scenes ordeals, certain DC Comics movie scenes leave negative impressions on the actors in them. These raw feelings exist for some actors even years after the movie itself has since been released. Here are some of the DC movie scenes...

Bryce Dallas Howard (Jurassic World franchise) is Elly Conway, the reclusive author of a series of best-selling espionage novels, whose idea of bliss is a night at home with her computer and her cat, Alfie. But when the plots of Elly’s fictional books—which center on secret agent Argylle and his mission to unravel a global spy syndicate—begin to mirror the covert actions of a real-life spy organization, quiet evenings at home become a thing of the past.

Dceu is counting its last days as the prime cinematic universe of DC comic characters. With the release of ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,’ that era will be over, and the new thing, under the leadership of Gunn and Safran, is taking over. Dceu had its good moments, ‘Wonder Woman,’ ‘Aquaman,’ and the first ‘Shazam’ were all box office successes, and the general public genuinely liked them. What Dceu never got right was sequels and the overall flow of the story.
‘Shazam’ released in 2019, was a hit out of nowhere. It was a B-list character brought to the big screen that almost nobody except for the fans of the comics has heard of. Sadly, the sequel will go down in notoriety as one of the lowest-grossing Dceu movies ever. It wasn’t because of Levi’s performance, however, as the general consensus was that the guy was born to play Shazam.

When a filmmaker takes on a story based on the crimes committed by a real serial killer, they have to walk a fine line. If they cross that line, it can feel disrespectful to the victims… and can even seem like they’re glorifying the killer. That’s not something Devanny Pinn intends to do with her feature directorial debut a 1970s serial killer tale called Black Mass. Speaking with Rue Morgue, she revealed that Black Mass focuses on the victims rather than the killer.
Inspired by real events, Black Mass is set over a 24-hour period in Florida during the winter of 1978 when college girls were being stalked by a serial killer. Eric Pereira and Brandon Slagle wrote the screenplay. Cast members include Lew Temple (The Devil’s Rejects), Jeremy London (Mallrats), Lisa Wilcox (A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master), Michelle Romano (Escape From Ensenada), Kathleen Kinmont...

Helen Mirren recently made her DC Extended Universe debut in Shazam! Fury of The Gods. The actor said she did a few of her stunts in the movie, resulting in a painful injury. However, Mirren refused to tell anyone on the set of Shazam! 2 that she had gotten hurt.

"As a surgeon, we don't arm ourselves during battle." But of course he must defend himself! Saban Films has revealed an official trailer for a military action film titled Battle for Saipan, based on the true story of the actual "Battle of Saipan" during World War II. The film is set to open later in November, if anyone is curious to watch. The Battle of Saipan was a battle of the Pacific campaign fought on the island of Saipan in the Mariana Islands in 1944. The US had invaded the island in June, taking over to use it as a strategic point in progressing towards Japan. But the Japanese on the island pushed back. The film involves an attack on the American soldiers in early July, following a surgeon who defends a hospital from the Japanese soldiers. The film's cast includes Casper Van Dien, Jeff Fahey, Louis Mandylor, Jennifer Wenger, Devanny Pinn,...

Zack Snyder remains one of fandom's most divisive directors, best known for his hyper-stylized takes on comic-book worlds. To his haters, he's a grimdark objectivist who just likes to make things look cool with no real understanding of his subjects. To his fans, he's the one guy who gets them, representing their favorite heroes the way they want to see them while indulging in the same power fantasies that draw outsider kids to comics in the first place. He can be surprisingly progressive, casting Polynesian Jason Momoa as Aquaman and nonbinary Ezra Miller as the Flash. He can also seem weirdly retrograde: ask any Persian how they feel about "300."
For most of his career, Snyder has adapted other people's works, a phase he appears ready to step out of as he attempts to create new franchises for Netflix. Whether they come from his mind or his memories of enjoying source material,...

Women are a force to be reckoned with both in real-life and in reel-life. Over the decades, strong women have permeated cinema from its infancy — remember Pearl White in the 1914 serial “The Perils of Pauline”? Viola Davis plays the title role in Gina Prince-Bythewood’s hit film “The Woman King.” The Oscar Emmy and Tony winner’s character leads a group of women warriors called the Agojie who protected the West African Kingdom of Dahomey from the 17th-19th centuries.

Alia Bhatt took to Instagram on Saturday night to share the first teaser of the spy action thriller ‘Heart of Stone’, helmed by the British director Tom Harper (‘Peaky Blinders’ and ‘War and Peace’).
Gal ‘Wonder Woman’ Gadot plays the lead character, CIA Agent Rachel Stone, with Jamie Dornan, an actor and musician from North Ireland who first got noticed in ‘Fifty Shades of Gray’, ‘Hotel Rwanda’ and ‘Criminal Justice’ star Sophie Okonedo, and Alia, who essays the part of Stone’s understudy, Keya Dhawan.
The teaser is loaded with high-adrenaline action showing Gadot doing what she’s best at — kick some hostile ass. “Rachel Stone lives off the adrenaline she’s addicted to,” says Gadot in the teaser.

Netflix is really keen on developing the next big James Bond/ Mission: Impossible-style franchise. The Grey Man apparently did pretty big business, as did Red Notice and Extraction, and now the streamer is again stepping into the espionage game with Heart of Stone. The film stars Gal Gadot as secret agent Rachel Stone, who, according to the official synopsis, “is the only woman who stands between her powerful, global, peace-keeping organization and the loss of its most valuable — and dangerous — asset.”

This post contains light spoilers for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Loki season one.
After much speculation, we finally know the name of the next two Avengers movies! Scheduled for release in 2025, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars will cap off Phase Six of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which begins with Fantastic Four in 2024. We’ve known for some time that Kang the Conqueror, played by Jonathan Majors, will be the prime villain of the next MCU arc, now titled the Multiverse Saga.
But Secret Wars is something of a surprise, in part because it could refer to four very different storylines. It’s pretty unlikely that the movie will integrate parts of Secret War from 2004 – 2005, a black-ops story involving Nick Fury and Shield. But the other three are all real candidates for adaptation, so let’s take a look at the storylines and what they offer.

The actor’s legal troubles are yet another problem for Warner Bros’ floundering franchise. Time to wipe the slate clean?
So, Warner Bros wants to “reset” the DC superhero universe … again. According to the Hollywood Reporter, chief executive David Zaslav recently told investors that the studio (now Warner Bros Discovery after mergers) has a new 10-year plan for the comic book mega-saga that it hoped would ape the success of Marvel. All of which, the recent cancellation of Batgirl aside, sounds more fantabulous than Harley Quinn executing a backflip – until we recall how many times we’ve been here before.
The original plan for DC was to build a universe of interconnected films around Zack Snyder’s 2017 Justice League movie, featuring Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman and the Flash, among others. How could this go wrong? Well, the movie flopped after Snyder left midway through development and was replaced by Joss Whedon as director.

Add DC’s Strange Adventures to the list of HBO Max projects that have recently been placed on the chopping block following the Warner Bros. Discovery merger.
Writer and director Kevin Smith first shared on his Hollywood Babble-On podcast that the DC Comics series will not be moving forward at the streaming service. Sources have confirmed to Deadline that that is, in fact, the case.
Strange Adventures was given a green light for development, along with a Green Lantern-inspired show, in 2019. Green Lantern appears to still remain on track.
Smith, who was set to direct and co-write an episode of the series, said on the podcast that the episode was to have revolved around Bizarro and Jimmy Olsen.
“[Axing Strange Adventures] kind of made sense to me — nobody necessarily knows these characters, and it sounded like an expensive show,” Smith said on the podcast.

John Oliver took aim at his network’s parent company’s decision to shelve Batgirl.
The Last Week Tonight host chided Warner Bros. Discovery for its controversial decision last week to dump the 90 million dollar project as a tax write-off.
During a segment on unused Covid-19 vaccines, Oliver said, “We let the vaccine sit unused on a shelf in our reserves like an expired Chobani or a 90 million movie on HBO Max. By the way: Hi there, new business daddy. Seems like you’re doing a really great job. I do get the vague sense that you’re burning down my network for the insurance money, but I’m sure that that will all pass.”

While interested in the project still, Paramount was not prepared to meet the timeline that the creative elements necessitated.
Deadline first told you about the project being set up at Paramount with Gadot, Jenkins and Skogland. No deals are in place at Universal.
The package is produced by Atlas Entertainment’s Charles Roven, Gal Gadot and her Pilot Wave Motion Pictures partner Jaron Varsano. Laeta Kalogridis wrote the screenplay and is serving as EP. Wonder Woman filmmaker Patty Jenkins is also an EP.
Uni’s potential interest here is no coincidence given how Roven is currently working with the studio on the Christopher Nolan WWII feature, Oppenheimer.

Stars: Casper Van Dien, Zachary Mooren, Linara Washington, Peter Mayer, Ford Fanter, Jennifer Wenger, James Packard, Aerial Nicole, Matt Connor, Vanessa Leinani, Megan Goldthrite, Timeka Little | Written and Directed by Andrew P. Jones

Age: 2018
Appearance: Found footage horror featuring some surprisingly effective gory flourishes, a few creepy moments and an ageless Casper Van Dien (he of Starship Troopers).
Darkness Reigns. Demon Pains.

Now, hang about. This one isn’t too bad. For a start, it has a plot and it doesn’t look as if it was filmed on a dodgy iPhone by a group of hysterical students. Cult comedy Baroness von Sketch Show may already be on its second season in its native Canada, but U.S. audiences are getting the chance to catch up on all the laughs now that the show is airing on IFC.
With shows like Portlandia, The Birthday Boys and Comedy Bang! Bang!, the network has been a haven for quirky, creative sketch comedy, but Baroness is a welcome niche in the crowded field: four women over 40 skewering the absurdities of everyday life. Where many other sketch shows are wildly over-the-top or lean towards bonkers scenarios, actor-writers Carolyn Taylor, Aurora Browne, Jennifer Whalen and Meredith MacNeill take things far enough to be hilarious, but not so insane that scenes are unrelatable.

The Merc with a Mouth shows off his vocal skills in this amusing fan-made Deadpool musical that also parodies the classic Beauty and the Beast song "Gaston." It's actually really well done, and it features some fun cameos. I think a lot of you will enjoy the madness. It was created by the team at Deadpool Said, and it's definitely Nsfw. Here's the synopsis that came along with it:
