“Grey’s Anatomy” viewers first saw E.R. Fightmaster in the role of Dr. Kai Bartley in the third episode of Season 18, as Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) was being wooed by a well-funded Minnesota hospital who wanted her to join their quest to cure Parkinson’s Disease. Meredith asked neurosurgeon Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) to join her there in order to help with the decision — which was when they both met Kai, who is part of the research team in Minnesota, and whose work Amelia clearly knew well.
Now, ABC has announced that Fightmaster — who is non-binary, as is Kai — has become a recurring member of the “Grey’s Anatomy” cast, the first time a non-binary actor has played a doctor on the show. (Trans actor Alex Blue Davis played surgical resident Casey Parker in Seasons 14-16.)
“Grey’s” isn’t on for the next two Thursdays, but Fightmaster’s Kai will be in the Nov.

I quickly want to preface this with saying I am not trying to diminish the amazing diversity brought on by Grey's Anatomy Season 15. I am merely trying to state an observation.
I too am a die-hard fan of the show!
With the very sad exit of many strong and diverse characters including Christina Yang, Callie Torres, Arizona Robins, April Kepner, etc. Grey's Anatomy was at the potential of losing its relevance to the current times.
To combat this, it seems they tried to pack a new diversity into these last two seasons in an unrealistic manner.
Beginning with Grey's Anatomy Season 14, the new class of interns brought on at Grey Sloan Memorial featured one of the most diverse groups since the beginning of the show.
Many of them offering "firsts" for Shondaland's portrayal of gay, trans, Muslim, and Southeast Asian characters.
In the harshest way possible, they almost act as...
