Daisy Ridley stars as a woman harboring a terrible secret in the feature film adaptation of Karen Dionne’s bestselling novel The Marsh King’s Daughter. The gripping trailer teases a little too much of the plot, so if you want to go in completely unaware of Ridley’s character’s past, don’t click play.
In addition to Daisy Ridley (the Star Wars franchise), the adaptation stars Emmy Award-winner Ben Mendelsohn (Bloodline), Screen Actors Guild nominee Garrett Hedlund (Mudbound), Caren Pistorius (Unhinged), Brooklynn Prince (The Florida Project), and Gil Birmingham (Yellowstone).
Elle Smith and Mark L. Smith adapted Dionne’s novel and Neil Burger directed. Black Bear’s Teddy Schwarzman, Anonymous Content’s Keith Redmon, and Mark L. Smith served as producers. Michael Heimler, Charles Miller, Cliff Roberts, Robert Simonds, Adam Fogelson, John Friedberg, and Samuel J. Brown executive produced. Black Bear provided the finacing.

The first film to be released under the new deal is “The Marsh King’s Daughter,” a thriller starring Daisy Ridley and directed by Neil Burger. Lionsgate will now jointly release the film with Roadside Attractions on October 6.

It’s official: San Andreas 2 has been given the go-ahead at New Line.
That’s according to The Hollywood Reporter, announcing today that the studio has drafted in Neil Widener and Gavin James to pen the sequel, which looks set to send Dwayne Johnson’s grizzled search-and-rescue pilot to the infamous Ring of Fire. Indeed, New Line has secured much of the original team to return, including director Brad Peyton – who will also helm Rampage with Johnson – and producer Beau Flynn.
After grossing upwards of $470 million worldwide, news of a San Andreas sequel shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. With the vast majority of America’s west coast now lying in ruins, THR notes that Peyton’s follow-up will take the disaster porn to a global scale and, in particular, the perimeter of Earth’s gargantuan Pacific plate. Warner Bros. Pictures has released the brand new trailer for next summer’s disaster-suspense film San Andreas.
The film stars Dwayne Johnson, Carla Gugino, Alexandra Daddario, Ioan Gruffudd, Archie Panjabi, Hugo Johnstone-Burt, Art Parkinson and Paul Giamatti.
Shot on location in The Gold Coast and Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, and in Los Angeles and San Francisco, San Andreas is slated to open in theatres in both 3D and 2D format on Friday, May 29, 2015.
This isn’t the first film where Southern California has been destroyed on the silver screen. San Francisco (1936) is based on the April 18, 1906 San Francisco earthquake. Directed by Woody Van Dyke, the drama stars Clark Gable, Jeanette MacDonald, and Spencer Tracy.
Airport originated the 1970s disaster film genre and audiences were deluged with a series of movies including the original Earthquake (1974). These films always included a huge cast, where many of the actors usually perished by the climax.

The actor brought the idea to 21 Laps and developed it with them and writers Evan Susser and Van Robichaux, the scribes behind the 2011 Black List script Chewi. Greenfield also will serve as a producer on the film. Shawn Levy will produce with Billy Rosenberg and Dan Cohen. New Line’s Richard Brener, Sam Brown and Dave Neustadter will referee. The exact plot is being kept quiet, but the aspiration is a Horrible Bosses tone for a comedy that follows an epic fistfight between two high school teachers set against the backdrop of the broken-down school system. Wme reps Levy, Greenfield, Susser, and Robichaux; Greenfield is managed by Greenlight Management. Levy and Greenfield are repped by Ziffren Brittenham, and the scribes by McKuin Frankel.

As the year draws to a close, Warner Bros. is beginning to look forward, as they’ve provided a few new images and synopses for choice options in their 2012 slate. This crop, only a small portion of their offerings for the next twelve months, consists of Bullet to the Head, Rock of Ages, Project X, and The Apparition. Nothing exhibited here is a big revelation for those who’ve been following the films for a few months — although I did learn that a movie titled “The Apparition” is coming out — but a new picture or two never hurt anybody. Now, let’s get down to business.

Paul Motian passed away at age 80 yesterday after complications from the bone-marrow disorder myelodisplastic syndrome. In a career that exceeded five decades, Motian was one of the most respected drummers in jazz history as well as a superb composer and adept bandleader. Critic Art Lange called him "that rare commodity, an intimate drummer." And here's a bit of trivia: Motian played at Woodstock, in Arlo Guthrie's band.
Even music lovers largely unfamiliar with jazz have heard his work with pianist Bill Evans, whose trio Motian played in from 1959 to 1964. Other piano greats who availed themselves of Motian's subtly swinging sense of rhythm included Thelonious Monk, Herbie Nichols, Keith Jarrett, Paul Bley, Carla Bley, Lennie Tristano, Mose Allison, Martial Solal, Enrico Pieranunzi, and Marilyn Crispell.
On his own records (perhaps to avoid comparisons?) he favored guitarists instead, most notably Bill Frisell. After graduating from their '80s apprenticeships in Motian's trio and quintet,...

An All-star cast puts a comedy spin on workplace woes in upcoming movie Horrible Bosses, released in UK cinemas on July 22.
For Nick, Kurt and Dale, the only thing that would make the daily grind more tolerable would be to grind their intolerable managers into dust.
Quitting is not an option, so, with the benefit of a few-too-many drinks and some dubious advice from a hustling ex-con, the three friends devise a convoluted and seemingly foolproof plan to rid themselves of their respective employers...permanently.
There's only one problem: even the best-laid plans are only as foolproof as the brains behind them.
Jason Bateman (Couples Retreat), Charlie Day (Going the Distance) and Jason Sudeikis (Hall Pass) star as the three hapless workers, with Jennifer Aniston (He's Just Not That Into You), Colin Farrell (Crazy Heart) and two-time Oscar-winner Kevin Spacey (American Beauty, The Usual Suspects), as their unbearable bosses.

For Nick, Kurt and Dale, the only thing that would make the daily grind more tolerable would be to grind their intolerable bosses into dust. Quitting is not an option, so, with the benefit of a few-too-many drinks and some dubious advice from a hustling ex-con, the three friends devise a convoluted and seemingly foolproof plan to rid themselves of their respective employers…permanently. There’s only one problem: even the best laid plans are only as foolproof as the brains behind them. Jason Bateman (“Couples Retreat”), Charlie Day (“Going the Distance”) and Jason Sudeikis (“Hall Pass”) star as the three hapless workers, with Jennifer Aniston (“He’s Just Not That Into You”), Colin Farrell (“Crazy Heart”) and two-time Oscar® winner Kevin Spacey (“American Beauty,” “The Usual Suspects”), as their unbearable bosses. Oscar® winner Jamie Foxx (“Ray”) stars as the plotters’ unlikely mentor, whose street cred is priced on a sliding scale.
