Charlie Cale is bringing her “bullshit” meter to the Super Bowl.
In a spot that will air during the 2023 Super Bowl, Natasha Lyonne’s character from Peacock’s Poker Face is riffing on some of the ads that precede her big game debut. Designed to make it seem like Charlie is weighing in on the ads in real time, the Poker Face ad, directed by by Dan Opsal Of Hungry Man Productions, partnered with M&Ms and Google Pixel for what is being debuted as a “meta” spin on advertising.
The ad features Charlie in a bar watching the game, along with another patron, who is curious about her special ability to be able to call out when someone isn’t telling the truth. He asks her about a beer ad, along with the Pixel and M&m ads, that will air before the spot during the match-up between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles.

The 2017 Golden Globe Awards broke new ground tonight, featuring the trophy show’s first ever cold open. Here are some fun facts: The cold open video was written and directed by Dan Opsal, an Emmy and WGA-nominated writer for The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Opsal was also a writer for Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Kit Harington’s cameo was directed by Opsal via Skype. Harington was in England. La La Land choreographer Mandy Moore was the choreographer. The 74th Golden Globe Awards kicked off with an extended “La La Land” parody that featured host Jimmy Fallon’s take on the opening number “Another Day of Sun,” “City of Stars” and the swooning “Planetarium.” The video included appearances by Justin Timberlake, Ryan Reynolds, Tina Fey, Nicole Kidman, Amy Adams, John Travolta, Kit Harington, Rami Malek, Evan Rachel Wood, Sarah Paulson, Sterling K. Brown, Courtney B. Vance and the kids from the “Stranger Things” cast performing a brief rap. It was written and directed by Dan Opsal, an Emmy and WGA-nominated writer for “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.”
The monologue proper was brief, but it took shots at President-Elect Donald Trump, O.J. Simpson and “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.” Live from The Beverly Hilton in California, Fallon initially stumbled when the teleprompter supposedly went down, deeming it the night’s “first Golden Globes moment,” before diving right...

To appreciate how much work goes into writing a show like “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” ask a writer how many jokes they must write on any given day for any given segment. The answer is easily dozens, and that doesn’t include comedy pitches for celebrity guests and big sketch ideas like the show’s famed TV show parodies.
Gerard Bradford, a supervising writer for “Tonight Show,” broke down for IndieWire just how intense the production process can be. He also revealed some of his favorite sketches from the past year, and their more unusual inspirations.
What does having a regular schedule for specific desk bits like “Thank You Notes” mean for the rhythm of writing the show?
It definitely helps – especially on a show like ours where we’re doing five hour-long shows a week, and each show can be very different content-wise on any given day.

The Writers Guild of America has just announced the nominations for their annual awards for Best Screenplays (by writers who are guild signatories). That’s right, before you get nervous thinking that your favorite may have been left off the list, you must remember that the WGA is the group that is not all-inclusive and leaves out several of the top contenders each year due to them not being part of the guild or not following their very specific rules. For this reason, you won’t see Inside Out, The Hateful Eight, and Ex Machina in the Original Screenplay category or Room, Brooklyn, or Anomalisa in the Adapted screenplay category.
Taking a look at what’s left over for the nominations, we find many that were expected to make a showing, including Spotlight and Bridge of Spies for Original Screenplay, though they apparently had to sink to really low depths...

Are you afraid of Kung Fu Mom? Why the hell not? She'll totally kick your ass, and might even tear off your nipples and throw them in the river just because she damn feels like it.
The first episode of the Jimmy Fallon-produced "Sugarboy," which features a kid hopped up on sweets telling breakneck stories from his own imagination, tells the lore of Kung Fu Mom. The '70s were a gritty time for New York City, but with Kung Fu Mom roaming the street, citizens were kept in check.
We're happy to see Ilana Glazer (of the Amy Poehler-approved "Broad City") in the starring role, and are looking forward to more of Sugarboy's breathless stories. If the exploitation feel of the video feels like it would fit in on Fallon's NBC show, you're right -- the web series, distributed through Lorne Michaels' Above Average network, is...

Jimmy Fallon revisited his "discovered" '80s dating service, "Cupid's Arrow," on Monday night's episode of "Late Night." As Fallon explains, the show's studio was once used for a video dating service. What's a video dating service, you may ask? Imagine your parents hooking up through this before Ok Cupid was invented. (On second thought, don't imagine your parents hooking up at all.)
Once again, we hear testimonials from the colorfully-named James Spadge, Chiz Dippler, Brustin Pauch, Albert Manfield, Gary Chutch and the first-name-only Latin heartthrob Jose, the lead singer of the band Crisp. Any resemblance to Fallon or other "Late Night" usual suspects Steve Higgins, A.D. Miles and Bashir Salahuddin are purely coincidental.
The "Cupid's Arrow" videos are directed by Fallon writer Dan Opsal, and they always impress us with their excellent recreation of the '80s VHS aesthetic. If NBC is going to live in the past, Fallon's...
