Scream VII is now moving forward without the previous movie's leads, Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega, and while plot details are still under wraps, rumors have claimed that the story will revolve around Sidney (Neve Campbell), Gale (Courteney Cox) and some new characters defending Sid's family from some kind of Ghostface cult.
There have been conflicting reports about exactly how many masked maniacs will be targetting our returning heroes, but thanks to insider Daniel Richtman, we may have a little more to go on regarding the "younger leads" that are currently being cast.
Apparently, there will be a "big time jump" following the events of the last movie, presumably to allow for Sidney's children to have grown to appropriate slasher movie age. Richtman has also heard that this film will be at least partially set in a new town, and is being developed as the first instalment in a new trilogy.

After many controversies surrounding the production of the upcoming Scream movie, tentatively titled Scream 7, the fans managed to calm themselves down when it was announced that some major stars would be returning to the movie, despite Jenna Ortega’s exit following Melissa Barrera’s controversial dismissal. Franchise legend Kevin Williamson confirmed his return as director, with Neve Campbell also confirming the return of Sydney Prescott. Courtney Cox was confirmed to be in talks for a return, while several other names are also rumored, but nothing has been confirmed on that front. Now, some early reports have surfaced that the film’s production is moving fast, with filming supposedly scheduled to begin in September 2024.
Several industry-focused Twitter profiles have confirmed this piece of information, and Neve Campbell is listed as the source, as the actress seemingly confirmed that the movie’s production will begin later this year.

Yellowjackets fans will be eating good soon as season 3 will be on its way to your screens with production officially starting. The third year of our favorite schoolgirls was one of the victims of a great delay due to the dual union strikes in Hollywood last year. However, there would be a bonus episode in between the second and third season that would whet viewers’ appetites before the true continuation occurred.
The official Yellowjackets account on social media has just dropped an announcement that filming on season 3 has officially taken off. The announcement is followed by some teaser photos of the camp with one picture showcasing the script for the premiere episode. The post reads, “We know you’re starving… #Yellowjackets Season 3 is officially in production.” Which is then followed by a clapperboard emoji and a bee yellowjacket emoji. In 2022, Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Media revived the Scream franchise with a new entry (the fifth) that was a box office hit, earning almost $139 million at the global box office. Fourteen months later, Scream VI came along – and became an even bigger hit, pulling in almost $169 million at the global box office, a number that was up there with the series’ heyday, when the first Scream and Scream 2 made just over $170 million. (Scream 3 also made over $160 million – only Scream 4 failed to crack $100 million.) So, of course, the companies are moving full steam ahead with Scream 7. While the movie seemed, initially, to be on the fast-track to success, the track it’s on has turned out to be a shockingly bumpy ride.

Radio Silence Talk ‘Abigail,’ Their ‘Scream’ Exit and Trying to Make ‘The Shining’ Elevators Jealous
Abigail has been a long time coming for Radio Silence, the filmmaking collective consisting of co-directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin/Tyler Gillett and producer Chad Villella.
Coming off of their successful relaunch of the Scream franchise in 2022, the team strived to make another film before they returned to Ghostface. One idea was a feature now known as Abigail, but they ultimately ended up shooting Scream VI instead, as Scream rights holder Spyglass Media was eager to keep the momentum going. And together, they did just that, as Scream VI went on to set domestic box office records for the franchise.
Still, Abigail never left Radio Silence’s minds. As they were making Scream VI, the team was also preparing to do the ballerina vampire pic immediately after they finished promoting Scream VI’s March 2023 release. After all, they’d just put out two Scream movies within a 14-month period, so it’s...

A few months ago, the Scream franchise seemed dead and buried.
Despite a seventh installment getting the official greenlight last year, Melissa Barrera was let go from the franchise due to social media posts about the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
Jenna Ortega later left the flick due to her commitments to Wednesday Season 2.
After losing its two leads, the movie then lost director Christopher Landon.
In a surprising twist in the tale, Sidney Prescott is returning as the main attraction.
Neve Campbell took to social media Tuesday to reveal that she had closed a deal to return for the seventh installment of the slasher movie franchise.

The news is shocking because she famously walked away from the franchise ahead of Scream 6 following a pay dispute.

After what feels like months of bad news about the Scream franchise, there is finally something positive to report. Neve Campbell – who turned down the chance to reprise her iconic central role of Sidney Prescott in the most recent (sixth) entry because of an insultingly low pay offer, has hit social media to reveal that she'll be back for the seventh film — and that longtime franchise producer (and original writer) Kevin Williamson is stepping up to direct for the first time.
The otherwise yet to be officially titled Scream VII has been beset by issues. Following 2022's Scream and last year's Scream VI, directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett opting to move onto other projects (vampire pic Abigail is due in cinemas next month), the film series also saw star Melissa Barrera fired after outspoken comments on the Israel-Gaza conflict and fellow actor Jenna Ortega bow out for suspiciously convenient scheduling reasons.

In a dramatic turn of events, Neve Campbell is returning to the world of Scream, the latest twist for a franchise that just several months ago appeared to be on the ropes. Campbell’s return is particularly noteworthy, as she sat out Scream VI over a salary dispute with producer Spyglass.
Campbell announced on Instagram that in addition to her return, franchise godfather Kevin Williamson will direct. Williamson is the creator of the franchise, penning the script to Wes Craven’s original, as well as Scream 2 and Scream 4. Guy Busick, who wrote 2022’s Scream and Scream VI, will take over writing duties from James Vanderbilt, who is busy directing the feature Nuremberg.
The seventh installment of Scream has faced multiple setbacks, including losing star Jenna Ortega, the high profile firing of star Melissa Barrera, and the exit of director Christopher Landon.

Within the reality of the Scream films, the murders committed by various maniacs wearing Ghostface costumes have inspired a franchise of movies called Stab – and in Scream (2022), we saw a glimpse of a moment in Stab 8 that showed a different sort of Ghostface. This one worn a metallic mask, had short sleeves on their costume, and was blasting away at someone with a flamethrower. Now the collectible makers at Neca have taken to social media to reveal that their latest Ghostface action figure is inspired by that moment in Scream (2022) / Stab 8! This thing is called the Ultimate Ghostface Inferno action figure, and you can see images of it at the bottom of this article.

The Core Four is no more. Although Scream (2022) and Scream VI set up the characters of Samantha Carpenter, Tara Carpenter, Mindy Meeks-Martin, and Chad Meeks-Martin as the new leads of the Scream franchise, that group is not going to end up being in Scream 7, whenever that film goes into production. Jenna Ortega allegedly wanted a substantial pay raise to reprise the role of Tara… and as we saw when Neve Campbell dropped out of Scream VI due to a pay dispute, these pay issues don’t tend to work out. So Ortega was out, but Melissa Barrera was on board to come back as Tara’s sister Samantha. Until she was fired from the project after comments she made about the Israel-Hamas war didn’t go over well with executives at Spyglass. Mindy may or not be in the movie; we can’t be sure yet, because Jasmin Savoy Brown...

We still have no idea what’s going on with Scream 7, if anything at all, but the near future of the film franchise is definitely hanging in the balance at this moment in time.
Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega are no longer starring and Christopher Landon is no longer directing, while Neve Campbell is waiting on the “right circumstances” to return.
It’s safe to say the “core four” – Barrera, Ortega, Jasmin Savoy Brown & Mason Gooding – is no more, but will the “core two” (Savoy Brown & Gooding) return in Scream 7?
Speaking with Variety this week, Mason Gooding – who plays Chad Meeks-Martin, the nephew of Jamie Kennedy’s Randy Meeks – shared his thoughts on the franchise’s future.
“If it could make money, I guarantee you, they’ll make it,” Gooding says. “It’s one of those things where you wait to hear from the people that make the big decisions.

In a recent interview, Scream series actress Hayden Panettiere called the firing of the films’ franchise star Melissa Barrera last month “very unfair and upsetting.”
Barrera was dropped from Scream VII following social media posts commenting on the Israel-Hamas conflict. At the time, Spyglass Media cut Barrera, saying in a statement, “We have zero tolerance for antisemitism or the incitement of hate in any form, including false references to genocide, ethnic cleansing, Holocaust distortion, or anything that flagrantly crosses the line into hate speech.”
Panettiere said she thought her co-star was singled out.
“After she [spoke out], then a whole bunch of other actors and people in the industry started to do the same thing, right? It was almost like she just did it earlier than everyone else.”
Barrera later called dismissal was “shocking,” since she’d been playing the lead role of Sam Carpenter since 2022’s Scream V.

Melissa Barrera says her firing from the Scream franchise, which followed social media posts about the Israel-Gaza conflict, was part of a “big awakening” for the actress she’s “grateful” for.
Speaking to Te Associated Press on Thursday night at the Sundance Film Festival, the Carmen and Vida star said that after Spyglass Media fired her over what they deemed were antisemitic posts, she’s had time to reflect on how her support of Palestinians and calls for a ceasefire in the region has helped her realize more about herself.

Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega helped to usher in the Scream franchise for a new generation of audiences. While Scream V brought back the legacy characters from the 1996 original, Barrera and Ortega were able to take the baton and run with it, especially when Neve Campbell would not return for Scream VI. After the two previous films revitalized the franchise, Spyglass Media would obviously put in motion plans for another. However, nearly every notable name would encounter trouble with the planned sequel. Barrera, in particular, would be let go from the film after the actress made a social media post addressing the Israel-Hamas conflict, which the studio deemed to be anti-Semitic.
Barrera harbors no ill feelings toward the franchise, however. The actress would speak with Deadline at Sundance about her connection with the cast and how grateful she is for those films. Barrera remarked, “I’m just so grateful on...

Melissa Barrera has no ill feelings after being axed from the 'Scream' franchise over her pro-Palestinian social media posts. The 33-year-old Mexican actress played Sam Carpenter - the illegitimate daughter of original Ghostface killer Billy Loomis and survivor of the Woodsboro murders - in the fifth and sixth instalments in the slasher franchise, but she was dropped from 'Scream VII' by production company Spyglass who deemed her posts on Instagram calling for an end to Israel's bombing of Gaza and reference to Israel as a "colonised country" to be antisemitic.Melissa insists she will forever grateful to be part of the 'Scream' films - which late director Wes Craven started back in 1996 - and is now ready to move on.She told Deadline: "I’m just so grateful on what I got to infuse in the franchise, and that’s something I’ll be proud of forever.

Melissa Barrera is keeping things positive after being removed from the Scream movie franchise. In November, Spyglass Media Group — the production company behind the films — fired Barrera following her social media posts in support of Palestine amid the Israel-Hamas war, claiming they have “zero tolerance” for antisemitism.
Speaking to Deadline at Sundance Film Festival last night, Barrera said, “I’m just so grateful on what I got to infuse in the franchise, and that’s also something I’ll be proud of forever.”

“I’m just so grateful on what I got to infuse in the franchise, and that’s something I’ll be proud of forever,” Melissa Barrera told Deadline at Sundance tonight, indicating no bad blood after being severed from the Scream series by Spyglass Media last month.
Barrera has clearly moved on, and she has a new horror movie here in Park City in the Midnight section, Your Monster from Caroline Lindy. In the pic, Barrera plays a soft-spoken actress, who finds her voice again after she meets a terrifying, yet weirdly charming Monster living in her closet.
Spyglass dropped Barrera from Scream VII after she reignited the franchise with Jenna Ortega in Scream V and Scream VI (the latter the highest grossing stateside in the horror series at $108M) due to remarks on social media about the Israel-Hamas conflict. Jasmin Savoy Brown’s future in the Scream franchise is up in the air after the actress said the movies’ studio, Spyglass, hasn’t been in touch about her potentially returning.
The Yellowjackets actress, who appeared in 2022’s Scream and 2023’s Scream VI, spoke to Entertainment Tonight recently about her time with the franchise and the cast’s most recent — and unplanned — reunion.
When asked about whether she’d return for the next installment, which lost leads Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega as well as director Christopher Landon late last year, Brown shared no one had reached out to her. “I haven’t gotten a call, so I think if you want to ask Spyglass what they’re doing, you can,” she said. “I haven’t gotten a call.”
The Hollywood Reporter has reached out to Spyglass for comment.
Brown’s statement follows the departure of Landon, who revealed on Dec.

At one point, Spyglass Media and Paramount Pictures were wanting to move Scream 7 into production so quickly, they couldn’t even wait for Scream (2022) and Scream VI directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett to finish working on their Universal Monsters movie Abigail (formerly known as Dracula’s Daughter). With returning writers James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick working on the script, the companies hired Freaky and Happy Death Day director Christopher Landon to direct the film and started reaching out to actors. Then everything fell apart. Jenna Ortega allegedly wanted a substantial pay raise to reprise the role of Tara Carpenter… and as we saw when Neve Campbell dropped out of Scream VI due to a pay dispute, these pay issues don’t tend to work out. So Ortega was out, but Melissa Barrera was on board to come back as Tara’s sister Samantha. Until she was fired from the...

What the hell is going on with Scream 7? It’s impossible to know at this point in time, but it seems any and all original plans for the franchise’s next installment have been scrapped.
Speaking with Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet at the Emmy Awards over the weekend, franchise star Jasmin Savoy Brown revealed she hasn’t yet gotten any calls.
Savoy Brown tells Et, “I haven’t gotten a call. So I think if you want to ask Spyglass what they’re doing, you can. I haven’t gotten a call.

While fans of the Showtime series Yellowjackets (read our review of season 2 Here) patiently wait to see the bonus episode that’s going to air sometime between the second and third seasons, showrunners Ashley Lyle, Bart Nickerson, and Jonathan Lisco have let it be known that season 3 – which was, of course, greatly delayed by the strikes that hit the entertainment industry last year – is finally going to start filming in May, aiming for an early 2025 premiere!
Christina Ricci and Juliette Lewis star in Yellowjackets, which is is described as “equal parts survival epic, horror story, and coming-of-age drama.” The story centers on a team of wildly talented high school girls soccer players who become the (un)lucky survivors of a plane crash deep in the Ontario wilderness. Fans of supernatural cannibal drama Yellowjackets are facing a long wait for season 3 which won’t grace our screens until 2025 now.
In 2023, Hollywood came to a standstill for several months while writers and actors went on strike for better terms and conditions. The effects of those strikes are still being felt.
Yellowjackets is one of the many shows that faces a long delay in getting a new season out. Showtime’s drama aired its second season earlier in 2023, which ended on a pretty shocking note – you’ll have to watch the series to find out exactly what that note was.
Deadline now reports that Yellowjackets season 3 is looking at a 2025 release. The pre-production of the new season was interrupted by the writers’ strike just one day in, and writing only got back underway in September 2023.
The series follows a girls football team that find themselves stranded in the woods after a plane crash.

The third season of Yellowjackets will not be premiering until 2025, Yellowjackets executive producers Ashley Lyle, Jonathan Lisco and Bart Nickerson told Deadline on the red carpet at the Emmy Awards on Monday night.
Following the writers and actors strikes that delayed production for most scripted series, the writers room for the Showtime psychological thriller reopened in September. Pre-production for the series was shut down just one day after the WGA strike began last May.

Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega reunited with the Scream cast at MPTF’s 17th Annual Evening Before Gala.
Barrera and Ortega reassembled the “Core 4” that included Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding, who have been together since the film franchise’s reboot with 2022’s Scream V and 2023’s Scream VI.
The reunion also included cast members Liana Liberato, Tony Revolori, Jack Quaid and Barrera’s on-screen father and Og Ghostface Skeet Ulrich. See the video below.
Barrera was dropped from Scream VII after the star shared a social media post about the Israel-Hamas conflict. Spyglass Media believed Barrera’s stance on the conflict was antisemitic and said in a statement, “We have zero tolerance for antisemitism or the incitement of hate in any form, including false references to genocide, ethnic cleansing, Holocaust distortion or anything that flagrantly crosses the line into hate speech.”

The hits keep coming on Scream 7. Weeks after Melissa Barrera was let go from the upcoming sequel, followed close behind by news that Jenna Ortega also left, director Christopher Landon announced via Twitter today that he formally exited the project weeks ago.
The filmmaker said, “I guess now is as good a time as any to announce I formally exited Scream 7 weeks ago. This will disappoint some and delight others. It was a dream job that turned into a nightmare. And my heart did break for everyone involved. Everyone. But it’s time to move on. I have nothing more to add to the conversation other than I hope Wes’ legacy thrives and lifts above the din of a divided world. What he and Kevin created is something amazing and I was honored to have even the briefest moment basking in their glow.”

The Yellowjackets will probably be literally hungry for quite some time, but the people who play them may not be for much longer, figuratively. After being overlooked twice in a row, “Yellowjackets” is predicted to cook up its first drama ensemble nomination at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, according to our combined odds, in which it currently sits in fifth place.
Unlike the last two times it was eligible — for the first seven episodes of its debut season at the 2022 awards and for the final three at the 2023 awards — the Showtime hit is now competing for a full season as all nine episodes of its second installment aired during the current calendar year. Not just that, as a two-time Best Drama Series Emmy nominee, it’s now an established awards player than could benefit from SAG-AFTRA voters trying to play catch-up, as they have done with many buzzy titles in...

It’s been a fraught week for the production of Scream 7. First, it was announced that star Melissa Barrera was fired due to social media posts that were perceived as anti-semitic (an accusation she denies). Then, breakout star Jenna Ortega was also taken off the cast list due to conflicts with her hit Netflix series, Wednesday. Faced with the two biggest stars of the newly-rebooted franchise no longer being part of the sequel, Variety is reporting that a significant “creative reset” is underway, with the hope that original franchise star Neve Campbell will return as Sidney Prescott.
Campbell has long been open to returning to the series after skipping the sixth film due to a pay dispute. Many, including original franchise mastermind Kevin Williamson, shamed the studio, saying Campbell should be paid what she’s worth. Melissa Barrera has broken her silence after being fired from the “Scream” franchise. The actress is condemning antisemitism and Islamaphobia after the film’s studio Spyglass said her recent social media posts prompted them to drop her from “Scream 7.”

In the wake of the news that "Scream" star Melissa Barrera had been removed from "Scream VII" by Spyglass Media Group over social media comments that the company deemed antisemitic, it was announced today that another member of the "core four" would not be returning for the slasher sequel, albeit under different circumstances. According to Deadline, Jenna Ortega, who played Barrera's younger sister in the franchise, is not expected to return for the next installment of the franchise. Deadline reports that Ortega's departure is unrelated to Barrera's firing and that her exit had been discussed prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike. This was also confirmed by sources to The Hollywood Reporter.

Jenna Ortega may be a fan of scary movies, but she’s no longer a part of the “Scream 7.”
Following rumors that Ortega was looking to part ways with the Spyglassfilms after her breakout role in Netflix series “Wednesday,” the actress confirmed she will not appear in “Scream 7,” sources tell IndieWire. Deadline first reported the news, citing that Ortega’s contract was being reevaluated prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike. Ortega is set to film “Wednesday” Season 2 in Ireland from April 2024 into the summer, and that “Scream 7” has a scheduling conflict.
Ortega starred in the fifth “Scream” film as Tara Carpenter, which served as a franchise reboot (meta-ly deemed “requel” in the movie). She reprised the role for “Scream VI.”
Ortega’s announcement comes on the heels of co-star Melissa Barrera, who plays Ortega’s onscreen half-sister, being fired for antisemitic comments that production company Spyglass Entertainment deemed antisemitic.

Scream 7 is going to be a very different movie than we were expecting it to be when it was first announced. Although the 2022 Scream film introduced new lead characters Samantha and Tara Carpenter, played by Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega, and Scream VI saw the Carpenter sisters solidifying their connection with the Meeks-Martin twins (Jasmin Savoy Brown as Mindy and Mason Gooding as Chad) to call themselves the new “core four” characters of the franchise… at least half of the core four as going to be absent from Scream 7. The website also notes, “We understand that Ortega’s exit from the next Scream was discussed before the actors strike. Neve Campbell is sharing her thoughts on the current Scream franchise and opening up about Scream VI and the Scream V storyline that left her disappointed.
During an appearance at Monster-Mania Con earlier this month, Campbell talked about Scream VI, the film she walked away from after not coming to terms over her pay.
Ahead of her appearance at the convention, Campbell said she had watched Scream Vi recently adding, “It took me a minute, I don’t know why.”
“I actually thought they did a really good job. I think the cast are really powerful, wonderful actors,” Campbell told the crowd in attendance of her panel.
“I don’t wish these movies ill will. I wanted the movie to be good. It’s not like I’m sitting in my house going, ‘I hope it sucks, I hope it doesn’t do well.’ I care about all the people involved.

The fifth installment of the "Scream" franchise was a huge shakeup, with the filmmaking collective known as Radio Silence ("Ready or Not") taking the reins from the legendary Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson. Directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett had an impossible task ahead of them — marrying the previous four films featuring Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell), Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox), and Dewey Reilly (David Arquette) with a brand new cast of characters now known as the "Core Four," comprised of Sam Carpenter (Melissa Barrera), Tara Carpenter (Jenna Ortega), Mindy Meeks-Martin (Jasmin Savoy Brown), and Chad Meeks-Martin (Mason Gooding).

Although her character, franchise heroine Sidney Prescott, was originally included in the script for Scream VI (watch it Here), Neve Campbell ended up passing on the offer to reprise the role for that film due to a pay dispute. Soon after the film was released, her Scream co-star Skeet Ulrich (who makes brief appearances in the 2022 Scream and Scream VI) said Campbell loved what they did with the latest sequel… but while doing a Q&a at the 2023 Monster-Mania Con, Campbell revealed that she only recently watched the film. It took her longer than we thought to see it, but her reaction was a positive one in the end.
Campbell told the Monster-Mania crowd (with thanks to Coming Soon for the transcription), “I hadn’t watched it until two weeks ago. It took me a minute, I don’t know why. I actually thought they did a really good job.

The more we head into this new generation of "Scream" films, the more we see the parallels to the original trilogy. Like "Scream 2," "Scream 6" was rushed into production immediately after the success of its predecessor, with mixed results. Both Screams 2 and 6 gave us some of the most exciting and suspenseful chase sequences of the whole series, but they also gave us two messy final acts, both of which probably could've been polished over script-wise if the production had been given a little more time.
The parallels don't stop there: Just like the longer gap between Screams 2 and 3, "Scream 7" is also set to take much longer to release in theaters than its predecessor. It'll also experience a few creative changes behind the scenes, as well as some uncertainty over which major cast members are coming back. In the third movie's case, this ended up in one of...
