The Dark Knight trilogy saw Gary Oldman step into the role of a good guy. This was a change of pace for the actor, who was used to playing villains throughout his career.
But when he looked at Heath Ledger’s performance as The Joker, Oldman felt it wasn’t too unlike the characters he used to play himself in his younger years.

Out of all the roles he played, Oldman once admitted that he found portraying Commissioner Jim Gordon among his most difficult. Commissioner Gordon was as moral as they came in Christopher Nolan’s Batman series. But Oldman confided that playing someone so good was harder than it looked.
“The good guy, the incorruptible, straight as an arrow Jim Gordon,” Oldman once reflected on BBC Radio 1.

2017’s “War For The Planet Of The Apes” marked the end of Matt Reeves’ “Planet Of The Apes” reboot trilogy (started by filmmaker director Rupert Wyatt). That series was originally conceived of by screenwriters Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, who remained exec producers on all three films, and they are back as central players in the next installment of this series, “Kingdom Of The Planet of the Apes” which takes place nearly 300 years after the events of “War For The Planet Of The Apes.”

Oppenheimer Maker Christopher Nolan On Robert Downey Jr As Iron Man ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
Christopher Nolan has given us some mind-boggling films over the years, such as Interstellar, Inception, The Prestige, and Oppenheimer last year. Like Nolan, known for his excellent cinematic work, his actor Robert Downey Jr. is also a global star. Appreciated for his Batman trilogy, the director recently praised Rdj for portraying Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Keep scrolling for more.
A few days back, Rdj revealed going to Nolan for the role of Scarecrow in Batman Begins but got rejected. The role eventually went to Cillian Murphy, who has been integral to Nolan’s filmography. The trio has been ruling the Hollywood awards this year, and fans hope they will also bag the Oscars.
Christopher Nolan has often spoken highly of Robert Downey Jr, and he truly admires the actor in Iron Man’s role in the MCU.

With his outstanding performance in "Saltburn," Barry Keoghan has solidified himself as one of the most exciting and sought-after up-and-coming stars — and it's not just because of that provocative final shot. Sure, the TikTokers were all over "Saltburn" because of its generous helping of full-frontal Keoghan nudity, but the Irish star also delivered a truly unsettling performance as a disturbed student who becomes obsessed with Jacob Elordi's Felix and his upper-class family.
Anyone who followed Keoghan's career prior to "Saltburn" knew he was capable of such feats, especially those who'd seen his equally brilliant portrayal of disturbed teen Martin in 2017's "The Killing of a Sacred Deer." But it's not just the mentally unstable that Keoghan has a knack for playing so well, though that particular talent will no doubt come in handy when the actor has his proper debut as the Joker in Matt Reeves' Batman universe. Small towns hide secrets. They’re typically really good at it too because the smaller the town it seems the darker the secret they are trying to hide. If you grew up in a tiny Midwest town like I did you would know this to be gospel. Southern noir or Southern Gothic is a special sort of genre that when done right shines a sinister light on those secrets. Add some good old good vs evil to the mix and the supernatural and you’ve got something special. In the case of todays series you had the best of all of these mixed into a twisted, beautiful, epic masterpiece that came happened to be co-launched by a master of horror named Sam Raimi and a gent more known for solving mysteries than writing them… a Hardy Boy himself Shaun Cassidy. The show is one of my favorite TV series of all time,...

The Batman actor has been developing the idea since the birth of his daughter in 2005, after being ‘stunned and mad’ to learn how many children were in care in California
Christian Bale has led a tour round the new village in California where he plans to build 12 foster homes, as well as two studio flats to help children transition into independent living, and a 7,000 sq ft community centre.
The actor, who broke through aged 12 in Empire of the Sun before starring in films such as American Psycho and Christopher Nolan’s Batman series, has spearheaded the building of a unique complex of facilities with the aim of keeping siblings in the foster care system together, and ideally under the same roof.

In the DC Comics series "Batman," Jonathan Crane, more popularly known as Scarecrow, uses fear as a weapon. "Even if you attempt to steel against fear ... it is undeniable. Fear makes us human," he claims while using a specially concocted airborne fear toxin to terrorize everyone in Gotham. Scarecrow is pretty formidable among the plethora of "Batman" villains — his heightened intelligence and innate grasp of human psychology give him an edge over those who only rely on brute strength, as the nature of warfare he employs is purely psychological. So, when Christopher Nolan was looking to cast someone fitting to portray the character in "Batman Begins," many dynamic actors, including Robert Downey Jr., were more than interested in going full diabolical scientist for the film.

Hollywood star Robert Downey Jr. went down memory lane to recall a meeting with renowned filmmaker Christopher Nolan about playing Scarecrow in the 2005 film ‘Batman Begins’. The actor made the comments during a Q&a with the audience following a screening of ‘Oppenheimer’ at the Aero Theater in Los Angeles.
“I’m pretty sure that I heard like, ‘There’s this role, Scarecrow,’ and I was like, ‘psh, I’m Scarecrow’,” Downey Jr. said in a video shared on X by Griffin Schiller.
He continued: “I remember meeting for tea, and I was like, ‘He doesn’t seem like he’s really leaning in on this interview.’ And he was polite and all that, but I mean, you know, you can tell when someone is kind of like, ‘It’s not gonna go your way’.”

These days it's strange to think of Marvel struggling to outdo DC at the box office. But believe it or not, there was a time when the latter was the undisputed champ of superhero filmmaking. Director Richard Donner kicked off that winning streak with 1978's "Superman," the film that provided the blueprint for the modern blockbuster. Next, Tim Burton solidified DC's box office prowess with 1989's "Batman" — a film that made a heck of a lot of money at the box office and established the principles of modern blockbuster marketing.
Meanwhile, Marvel had this comparatively abject filmography to offer: 1986's "Howard the Duck," 1989's "The Punisher," and the direct-to-video "Captain America" in 1990. By the time DC and Warner Bros.' "Batman Forever" hit in 1995 and made $336 million globally (an impressive number for the time) it seemed DC would rule the superhero blockbuster space for a long time to come.

There ought to be an obscure, multisyllabic German word for the very specific feeling of pride one can take in discovering cinema through one of the medium's more highly regarded classics. There are those among us who had something of a cinematic awakening while watching an indelible classic such as, say, "Citizen Kane," "2001: A Space Odyssey," "Persona," "The Rules of the Game," or "The General." Conversely, there ought to be a similar term for the mixture of pride and embarrassment one feels when their cinematic awakening is instigated by something obscure or unknown. "2001" may be a great piece of cinema. But surely someone in the world fell in love with movies the first time they saw Tony Richardson's 1961 film "A Taste of Honey," or Russell Mulcahy's "Highlander 2: The Quickening."

A young woman's nightmares have deadly consequences in the real world in Legendary Comics and Rocketship Entertainment's new graphic novel Sleep Terrors. Written by Cavan Scott with artwork by Stephanie Son, Sleep Terrors is now on Kickstarter, and we've been provided with an exclusive preview to share with Daily Dead readers!
Here's what Cavan Scott had to say about the genesis for Sleep Terrors and some of the inspirations behind the graphic novel:
Have you ever been cut off on the road by another driver or had a stranger shout at you without provocation? It’s natural to feel aggrieved, and maybe even forgivable to hope that karma plays a hand in the day of the aggressor. That’s where the original spark for Sleep Terrors came from; the admittedly dark wish fulfillment that we could somehow magically take revenge on those who wrong us.

The Crown Prince of Crime is one of the most mysterious characters in all of Gotham, with more secrets than even the enigmatic Riddler. The Joker's real identity has always been a question mark, in part because he's scarier if we don't know what made him an evil megalomaniac. Heath Ledger's take on the character in Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight" riffed on the idea of a shifting backstory by having Ledger's Joker tell different stories about how he got his scars to different people. Besides, how could anyone trust the word of a madman? No matter what Joker might say about his own past, it's very unlikely to be true.
While some adaptations of the character have given him a name beyond the Joker moniker, like Joaquin Phoenix's Arthur Fleck in "Joker," there hasn't been a single consensus on his official comics canon name... until now.

Participating at the Toronto Film Festival’s Spain-Canada co-production forum Do It the Spanish Way, dystopian animated feature “Desechable” (“Disposable”) is a blistering indictment of social injustice in Colombia.
Spanish producer Miguel Molina of Jaibo Films, whose credits include Locarno 2021 standout “Sacred Spirit,” is presenting what is billed as one of the more ambitious and prized animation features from the Spanish-speaking world which has just passed through Spains Ecam Incubator.
The superhero saga seems to have anticipated, when written, the maelstrom of social protests which rocked Colombia last year.
The co-production between Jaibo Films and Colombian art & animation studio Nocroma follows a biochemist who is nabbed by a Colombian paramilitary unit to make cocaine for them. He creates a synthetic drug that allows him to kill his captors and escape. But the drug he was forced to ingest also turns him into a junkie.

The ultimate passion project for Dwayne Johnson, "Black Adam" is more than just introducing a change in the hierarchy of the DC Universe. It features the big-screen debut of the Justice Society of America (Jsa), the very first superhero team from DC Comics canon. Fan-favorite character Hawkman (Aldis Hodge) leads the Jsa — comprised of Doctor Fate, Cyclone, and Atom Smasher — against the titular anti-hero. A team of super-powered individuals that spans generations, "Black Adam" presents a unique opportunity to tell a story with the Jsa that intersects different conflicting perspectives.
The formation of the Jsa is owed to such legacy heroes like Hawkman and Doctor Fate (Pierce Brosnan), meaning they were formed well before the events that transpire in "Black Adam." However, the resurrection of Teth-Adam calls for the renewed involvement of the team. Things are not simple for the long-running group, which now faces a formidable threat that makes...

Back in the ancient times before the advent of pop culture websites, us film and TV nerds had to scrounge for our movie news in some really weird places. I vividly remember stumbling across a bit of rumor mill gossip in the family's copy of TV Guide, of all places, that concerned Robin Williams and "Batman," and it always stuck with me.
We knew that Tim Burton was working a sequel to the 1989 box office smash, but didn't know what it was about at that time and the TV Guide writer was absolutely positive that the villain for "Batman 2" (as they called it) was going to be The Riddler played by none other than Robin Williams. My mind raced at this possibility, picturing the manic energy of Williams going up against the dark, brooding Michael Keaton Batman.
So, when Danny DeVito was announced as playing The Penguin I remember being disappointed.

If you think about it, a "Joker" standalone movie about the clown prince of crime that's been blatantly filtered through some notable Martin Scorsese films and goes on to make a killing at the box office, all while destroying our collective ability to discuss movies like rational adults in the process, has to be the most Joker move ever. Regardless of one's personal thoughts on the quality of the Todd Phillips film, the casting of Joaquin Phoenix in an (apparently) Oscar-worthy performance certainly helped make it go down more smoothly than it otherwise might have. But you just knew that, after "Joker" earned over 1 billion at the box office, Warner Bros. would not long resist the siren call of turning a film that seemed as anti-franchise as possible into a franchise of its own.

In the mid-1990s Darren Aronofsky wrote a list of ten movies he hoped to one day pursue. His first six, from Pi to Noah, all came from it. It seems a stretch to think he had “adapt a play written in 2012” on there, but you never know. The Whale is very much a filmed play, and it makes no pretensions otherwise: the set is a Set, the acting is Acting, and monologues come quick and fast. It’s based on Samuel D. Hunter’s Obie-winning work of the same name and stars an exceptional, resurgent Brendan Fraser as a 600-pound man attempting to reconnect with his daughter. Suffice it to say this film would be quite small without him.
In theatre productions of Hunter’s text, Fraser’s character, Charlie, was often played by an actor in a fat suit—a choice that is becoming increasingly delicate, to say the least.

In addition to the renewal, the streamer also announced that Sarah Peters, who has written for the show since Season 1 and serves as a consulting producer, has been promoted to executive producer and will take over duties as showrunner from creators Justin Halpern and Patrick Schumacker.
“We are ecstatic that HBO Max wants the story of Harley and Ivy to continue,” Halpern and Schumacker said in a statement. “And we are equally thrilled that this next season will be in great hands with Sarah Peters as our showrunner and Ceci Aranovich overseeing animation production, as they have both greatly influenced the show with their brilliance since the beginning.”
The news arrives as “Harley Quinn” continues to air its third season, which has been releasing new episodes on Thursdays.

"It feels unique, it is its own world in some ways, and maybe, mostly, it scares the shit out of me or something. It might as well be the thing that scares you the most.

While it can already feel like all of your favorite actors have found their way into the McU in one way or another, Marvel continues to find ways to add new A-list talent to their ever expanding universe. The latest to join their ranks is Michelle Pfeiffer in Ant-Man and the Wasp as the original Wasp who has been lost to the Quantum Realm.
Pfeiffer first appeared in various television shows in the early 1980s, such as Delta House, B.A.D. Cats, and Fantasy Island. She had a breakout role in 1982's cult hit Grease 2, but it was really her part in 1983's Scarface (below) that put her on Hollywood's A-list.

Steve Ditko, a comic-book artist who co-created the Marvel characters Spider-Man and Doctor Strange with Stan Lee, has died in New York. He was 90. The NYPD public information officer told Deadline that he was found in his apartment on June 29 and likely had been dead for a couple of days.
Ditko studied art at the Cartoonists and Illustrators School under early Batman artist Jerry Robinson. His first two published comic books — Fantastic Fears 5 and Black Magic 27 — were drawn in 1953. The iconic Spider-Man character first appeared in 1962 in issue #15 of Amazing Fantasy.
During that span, Ditko also worked for Charlton Comics, where he had full autonomy over his creations. In 1955 he met Lee, then an editor at Atlas Comics, which was run by Lee’s uncle Martin Goodman. The company, which began as Timely, would later morph into Marvel Comics.

Say what you will about the DC fandom, but there’s no denying that their capacity for optimism is unparalleled. Because let’s face it, apart from Wonder Woman, of course, the Dceu hasn’t done right by an undyingly loyal fanbase. Ever since Justice League began to underwhelm at the ticket booth – which, who are we kidding, was immediate – founding father Zack Snyder essentially took it upon himself to keep each and every devotee in high spirit.
What with the first trailer for Aquaman continuing to be withheld, and the removal of Snyder – who’s seemingly the only cog in the entire operation to have done his homework – the Dceu has inarguably found itself in the most precarious position a motion picture franchise can. Yet, an enduring aficionado like Instagram user @gothambatgram persistently displays their devotion through introspective fan art.

Gotham‘s fifth and final season won’t be with us until 2019, but at least we now know we’ll get a sneak peak at the highly anticipated last run of Fox’s Batman prequel series later this month at San Diego Comic-Con.

At a time when readers should merely be speculating on the outcome of Batman #50, they’re instead discussing the controversy that is DC allowing the New York Times to blow the lid off the anniversary issue’s outcome. In other words, it’s now widely known that Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle won’t be getting married after all.
Not only has this situation led to much backlash from the fanbase – though a percentage did see this coming and remain unfazed – but retailers are already reporting a number of cancellations from customers for the book in question. Normally, people will turn out whenever a death or resurrection is spoiled, but learning in advance that a wedding will not be taking place doesn’t sound all that enticing to many.

As Variety reported exclusively earlier this month, Prince’s estate and Sony Music Entertainment have inked an exclusive distribution agreement. The deal, officially announced today, includes 35 previously released album titles from the artist’s catalog — several of which are among the best-selling titles from his original 19-year stint on Warner Bros. Records. Those albums, which include “1999,” “Diamonds and Pearls,” “Sign O’ the Times” and nine others, will move over to Sony in 2021.
The Prince catalog covered under the new agreement will be distributed by Legacy Recordings, a division of Sme, with worldwide rights beginning immediately to 19 previously released album titles originally released between 1995 and 2010. It’s tough to make a TV show about a car. Oh, sure there have been some really cool cars featured in TV shows like Batman (the Batmobile), Green Hornet (the Black Beauty), Starsky & Hutch (their ‘75 Ford Gran Torino), or My Mother the Car, but they were never front and center. That all changed with Knight Rider, the David Hasselhoff series that originally ran on NBC from 1982-1986. In the show, undercover Lapd officer Michael Arthur Long is shot in the face during an assignment and left for dead. Instead, he’s saved by self-made billionaire Wilton Knight (Richard Basehart). Following plastic surgery, Michael is given the last name Knight and made the lead field agent in Flag (Foundation for Law and Government), a public justice organization and, armed with Kitt (Knight Industries Two Thousand), a Pontiac Firebird Trans Am equipped with artificial intelligence among other high-tech features, he fights for justice.

Idris Elba thinks the role should go to a black woman, but previous Bond actor Pierce Brosnan has now endorsed Tom Hardy. Talking about the role, the Irish star praised Craig, stating that "he's very physical, he looks lethal. You genuinely believe this is someone who could kill a man."

"I think Tom Hardy could be a good Bond," said Brosnan. "I'd be happy to see him do it. You need an actor who can put a bit of wiggle into it - that's what makes Bond."
