Actor Terry-Thomas described this as "the most outrageous film I ever appeared in . . . there was no magic . . . it was bad!".
The joke at the start of the film where the nun speaks of "flocking blind cripples" is taken with very little alteration from a joke in an earlier Dudley Moore comedy, "30 Is A Dangerous Age, Cynthia". Similarly, the unidexter Mr. Spiggot scene was a longstanding Cook/Moore staple (originally he is applying to be the next Tarzan).
