Poor Things, Oppenheimer and Saltburn won Art Directors Guild (IATSE Local 800) Awards in the categories for fantasy, period and contemporary live action features, respectively, at the 28th Adg Awards, which were handed out Saturday at the Ray Dolby Ballroom in Ovation Hollywood.
Poor Things and Oppenheimer are additionally nominated for the Oscar in production design, alongside Barbie, Killers of the Flower Moon and Napoleon, which were also Adg nominated in their respective categories.
Over the past five years, the winner of the Adg’s period film prize has gone on to win the Oscar for production design twice: In 2020, for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and in 2021, for Mank. During that time, the production design Oscar went to the winner of the fantasy category twice, in 2019, for Black Panther, and 2022, for Dune. Production design Oscar nominees “Barbie,” “Poor Things,” “Killers of the Flower Moon,” “Oppenheimer,” “Napoleon” all competed for the 28th Art Directors Guild Awards February 10 at Ovation Hollywood’s Ray Dolby Ballroom. “Poor Things” prevailed over “Barbie” for fantasy, and is now in the driver’s seat to win the Oscar. Throughout the season, it has been a race between these two big feminist films constructed around rebirth and unconventional world-building.
Meanwhile, “Oppenheimer” took period honors over “Asteroid City,” “Killers of the Flower Moon,” “Maestro,” and “Napoleon.” Contemporary winner “Saltburn,” though, is not in the Oscar running. The animated feature winner was “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.”
The TV winners for one-hour period, fantasy, and contemporary were “The Great,” “The Last of Us,” and “Succession.” Movie or limited series went to “Beef,” and the half-hour series winner was “Reservation Dogs.”

“Saltburn,” “Oppenheimer” and “Poor Things” were among the winners at the 28th Annual Art Director’s Guild Awards which took place in Hollywood on Saturday evening.
Hosted by Max Greenfield, the Adg Awards celebrated outstanding production design in theatrical motion pictures, television, commercials, animated features and music videos.
“Poor Things” production designers Shona Heath and James Price drew visual references ranging from the paintings of French futurist Albert Robida to Francis Ford Coppola’s “Dracula” to build Yorgos Lanthimos’ extraordinary sets.
In “Oppenheimer,” Ruth De Jong built Los Alamos from the ground up. But her most challenging task came when she had to build the Oval Office for the film’s third act. Working with supervising art director, Samantha Englander, the two had floated the idea of finding a pre-existing build of the Oval Office. The 2024 Grammys aired on February 4, and as usual, I have some thoughts. For passionate awards pundits, the Grammys are often best enjoyed afterwards, when you can analyze the results properly and theorize about what they might be telling us about the voting process, the Recording Academy and the music industry as a whole. Here are my five main takeaways.

Pop voters have refined taste
Listen, I don’t wanna dunk on any artist or song, but Taylor Swift’s remix of “Karma” featuring Ice Spice is just not that good, with some simply feeling like the added verse was out of place. Regardless, the track was predicted to win the Grammy for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, mostly due to the fact that the original version topped pop radio and all the other nominees were deep cuts and/or album tracks.

Last night’s Grammys was a night of predictable winners, surprise appearances and even an arrest.
While Phoebe Bridgers was the big winner with four awards, it was Taylor Swift who took home Album of the Year (Midnights), making her the only artist to win the award four times. This honor was given by Celine Dion, in a shocking appearance considering her 2022 diagnosis of stiff person syndrome, leaving her unable to perform. After a standing ovation, she told the crowd, “Thank you, all! I love you right back…You look beautiful. When I say I’m happy to be here, I really mean it from my heart. It seemed like Lana Del Rey had the best chance of her entire career to finally win her first Grammy. She had never been nominated more times at a single ceremony than at the 2024 event, and when Taylor Swift won Album of the Year for “Midnights” she went out of her way to praise Del Rey as legendary artist who has paved the way for musicians who have followed her. Alas, while Swift has now collected 14 trophies over the course of her career, Del Rey is now 0-for-11. Check out the complete list of winners here.
Del Rey received five nominations this year: Album of the Year and Best Alternative Music Album (“Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd“), Song of the Year and Best Alternative Music Performance (“A&W”) and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance (“Candy Necklace” with Jon Batiste). In 2023 Gold Derby’s racetrack odds missed every general field category — surprises abounded! But this year our odds were spot-on in all four of those races, with Album of the Year going to Taylor Swift (“Midnights”), Record of the Year going to Miley Cyrus (“Flowers”), Song of the Year going to Billie Eilish (“What Was I Made For?”) and Best New Artist going to Victoria Monet. Still, there were 15 categories out of the 37 we were predicting where most of our users were expecting a different result. Did you see these outcomes coming?

Best Pop Duo/Group Performance: “Ghost in the Machine” by Sza feat. Phoebe Bridgers
In recent years this award has gone to the biggest hit nominated. This year that was “Karma” by Taylor Swift and Ice Spice. And since Swift was also the front-runner for Album of the Year, we figured she’d take this too.

Taylor Swift secured a historic fourth Album of the Year win, while Miley Cyrus and Sza enjoyed big nights of their own at the 2024 Grammy Awards.
Swift’s world-conquering 2022 LP, Midnights, took home the night’s top prize, making her the first artist to win the award four times. She first won Album of the Year in 2010 for Fearless, then again in 2016 for 1989 and in 2021 for Folklore. (Mixing and mastering engineers Tom Coyne, Serban Ghenea, and John Hanes previously won, though Swift is the first artist.)

Lizzo and Sza shared a big hug on stage at the 2024 Grammys held at Crypto.com Arena on Sunday night (February 4) in Los Angeles.
The 35-year-old “Truth Hurts” singer presented the 34-year-old “Kill Bill” singer with the award for Best R&b song for “Snooze.”
Sza was late on stage to accept her award as she was backstage changing after she performed not long before.

“Sorry I’m out of breath because I was changing then I took a shot and I ran here,” Sza said in her speech. “But Lizzo and I have been friends since 2013 when we were both on a tiny Red Bull tour together opening up in small rooms for like 100 people. Los Angeles, Feb 5 (Ians) Singer Sza, who has the most nominations at the 2024 Grammy Awards, painted the stage red with a perfect ‘Kill Bill’ performance.
The singer, dressed out in a black trenchcoat and wide-brimmed hat, opened with her smash hit “Snooze” off her sophomore album “Sos.” On a stage resembling a back alley replete with flaming garbage cans and a dumpster, she sang shrouded in shadow, brushing off a man who approached her at the song’s end.
The camera panned to a woman in the audience brandishing a sword, showing off her samurai skills on a table where Phoebe Bridgers and Victoria Monét were seated.
The woman joined a crew of dancers on stage as Sza ran through “Kill Bill,” taking off her jacket and joining in on the choreography, once again pushing off the suitor, reports variety.com.

Sza gave a fierce performance at the 2024 Grammys, singing some of her biggest hits.
Wearing an all-black outfit with a leather trench coat, the singer-songwriter started with a soulful performance of her song “Snooze” from her album Sos.
After, backup dancers, appearing equally fierce, proceeded to come in with swords as Sza began singing “Kill Bill.” At one point, the dancers jumped on other artist’s tables in the audience, as Janelle Monáe, Kelsea Ballerini and other stars cheered Sza on.
Right before her performance, the singer shared a few words in an intro video about what her latest album and the Grammys mean to her.
“Sos took about five years for me to finish and put out,” Sza says in the footage. “I consulted the water about every aspect of this hour. I never feel nervous in the ocean, when I’m swimming in open water. I loved the isolation,...

A banner year for indie rock supergroup boygenius continues with a stripped-back version of Shania Twain’s 1997 hit, “You’re Still The One.” The trio consisting of Phoebe Bridgers, Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus performed the classic single during a recent appearance on BBC Radio 1.
On the soulful track, Bridgers and Baker accompany the group’s harmonies with their guitar and mandolin (the instrument that was featured in the original version), respectively. Bridgers and Dacus each took a verse, with Baker taking over during the song’s final chorus.

“Screaming,” Phoebe said, laughing.
“I was screaming all day,” Lucy continued. “It felt like slow motion. It actually reminded me of when I was in a car crash — but in, like, a cool, good way.”
“I jumped up and down, yeah,” Julien added. “Phoebe picked me up like we won the World Cup.”
The musicians were admittedly most surprised by their multiple nominations – which include Album of the Year for The Record, Best Rock Song for “Not Strong Enough,” and Best Alternative Music Performance for “Cool About It.

New Grammy nominations, new things to talk about. The Recording Academy officially announced the nominees for the 66th Grammy Awards on November 10, with an eclectic batch of artists and hits that range from pop to R&b to alternative. This year the list still managed to bring a lot of surprises, including artists crossing over to the general field that many didn’t expect. But what four main takeaways can we get from the nominations overall?

The three members of Boygenius are not having to stretch to figure out a time and a place to celebrate the six Grammy nominations that came in for the band Friday morning. They’re booked for “Saturday Night Live” this weekend — and, live from New York, they shared their thoughts via Zoom about the big love that has come their way from the Recording Academy, even as they rehearse for a key TV appearance.
“I don’t know how to respond to it,” says Julien Baker. “It’s just happened. I’m overwhelmed”… but “stoked,” she finally affirms.
Phoebe Bridgers had a prep course in navigating the Grammys when, as a solo artist, she picked up four nods three years ago. She’s pleased about the increased numbers this year — not just in the higher amount of nominations, although there is that, but in that she gets to share the...
