Put Ilana Glazer in a comedy set in New York City and we’ll be sat, no questions asked. For “Babes,” Glazer teamed up to co-write, produce, and star in Pamela Adlon‘s feature directorial debut, a laugh-out-loud coming-of-age buddy comedy following life-long best friends (Glazer and Michelle Buteau) as they navigate different phases of adulthood through the lens of pregnancy. IndieWire caught up with the team and stars behind the film at its New York City premiere on Tuesday, May 14.
Glazer, who co-wrote the film with “Broad City” alum Josh Rabinowitz, reflected on how their creative relationship has evolved since Glazer started comedy at 19 years old and Rabinowitz was just getting out of college. “Growing in comedy with Josh has been such a privilege,” Glazer told IndieWire. “I [was] a few years in and we were just knuckleheads together, like absolute knuckleheads. It’s hard for anyone to hate Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man. But the movies featuring the actor would be much different if Harry Potter director, Chris Columbus, had said yes to helm the trilogy. However, Columbus had a bigger fish to fry, and we can’t blame him for passing on Spider-Man.

In 2002, Robin Williams and Al Pacino shared screen space in Christopher Nolan’s psychological thriller Insomnia. Compared to Nolan’s famed works, this film remained a very underrated one, but became a cult classic over the years. More significantly, it saw Williams in a completely different avatar as a scheming killer, which was a far cry from his comedic turns.

Imagine “Wicked” without wigs, hair, or makeup. Or “The Lion King.” Or “The Phantom of the Opera.” Or “Cats.” Frankly, it would all be a bit bizarre and lackluster. None of those shows — in terms of looks, character, and story — would make sense without the incredible wigs, hair, and makeup (Wham) featured in them, which is why it is so strange that Wham artists are not recognized at major theater awards organizations.
There is, however, a campaign trying to get this bizarre omission rectified, and Victoria Fenton, the founder of the campaign Recognize Wham, has set up a Change petition to raise awareness of this issue. Robin Williams was one of the most beloved actors in Hollywood, who was known more for his comedic roles. Films such as Jumanji, Dead Poets Society, and Mrs. Doubtfire have featured the actor and Williams’ presence has made them certified classics. The late actor was also known for his dramatic roles in films such as Good Will Hunting, for which he won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.
While Williams initially started his career with comedic roles, a rumor made the rounds that the actor was considered for the sinister role of Jack Torrance in Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining. While Jack Nicholson ended up playing the role, Williams was rumored to have been considered by Kubrick before seeing him in Mork & Mindy. However, Lee Unkrich’s new book on the film reportedly debunked the rumor and mentioned that Williams had no chance.

Brosnan, 70, has been ordered to appear at the Yellowstone Justice Center on January 23.
Yellowstone National Park is renowned for its hydrothermal features, such as hot springs, geysers and mud pots, and the park’s official website advises visitors to stay on designated boardwalks and trails in thermal areas due to the potential dangers. Hot springs, in particular, have caused more injuries and fatalities in Yellowstone than any other natural feature.
Yellowstone National Park spans approximately 2.2 million acres and boasts over 10,000 hydrothermal features. The park provides extensive guidelines and warnings to ensure visitor safety and emphasizes the risks associated with hot springs. Some thermal pools within the park...

Late actor Robin Williams made sure he could eat with his family once a week.
The “Mrs. Doubtfire” star, who took his own life in 2014 at the age of 63, had Zelda, 34, and 32-year-old Cody with ex-wife Marsha Garces Williams and now his eldest has explained that whilst his career didn’t leave much time for formal traditions, he did try to make sure everyone got together for a meal every Tuesday.
Zelda told People, “Dad’s job made it pretty hard to keep anything like a yearly tradition really, aside from Thanksgiving or days when sets would shut down.”
“So we didn’t really have much in the way of that, but cooking together was a big part of our family. We would eat together every Tuesday, however many family members were in town.”
The “Lisa Frankenstein” actress went on to add that her dad, who also had Zak, 40, with ex-wife Valerie Velardi,...

"Smokey and the Bandit" was a delightful '70s action-comedy movie; it spawned two sequels, the first of which was pretty damn good. For a modern audience looking back, the series was also remarkably star-studded. It featured beloved late actors like Burt Reynolds, Jackie Gleason, Patrick McCormick, and Mike Henry, most of whom are still fondly remembered over forty years after the first movie came out. Although the series itself isn't quite as well-known among today's young viewer as we'd probably prefer, most of its cast certainly is.
But what about the actors in the series who are still alive today? What are they up to? Let's check in on the lives and careers of the remaining "Smokey and the Bandit" cast, and see how they're holding up. We might never get to see that Seth MacFarlane-penned revival series we heard about back in 2020, but it's not time to...

In the 1990s, Hollywood's obsession with intellectual property wasn't nearly as all-consuming as it is now, but studios were still interested in giving themselves a perceived leg up by occasionally leaning on source material that might be familiar to audiences. The absolute best-case scenario for this type of situation was "The Fugitive," a new spin on an old TV series. With a $44 million budget, Chicago-born director Andrew Davis turned what could have been a by-the-numbers chase flick into a worldwide smash hit (only behind "Jurassic Park" and "Mrs. Doubtfire") that earned seven Academy Award nominations, with Tommy Lee Jones going on to win Best Supporting Actor. It's the rare action film to be nominated for Best Picture, its star turns from Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones are pitch-perfect, its ensemble is comprised of a murderer's row of terrific character actors, and the film's breathless pacing always keeps you on the edge of your seat.

"The goal for me, always, is try to make a movie that feels timeless, that people will watch years from now," said "Mrs. Doubtfire" director Chris Columbus in a recent interview with Ktvu.
The character of Mrs. Doubtfire actually has her roots in a real person -- not a recently-divorced father pulling a desperate gambit to see more of his kids, but the owner of a second hand clothing shop in Edinburgh. The shop was called Madame Doubtfire and, colloquially, so was its owner, though her name after remarrying was Annabella Coutts. She was something of a local legend, with one Edinburgh resident recalling that she had "about half a dozen cats" and that while her shop was an excellent resource for high-quality second hand goods,...

The Unveiling of Mrs Doubtfire and Its PG-13 Mystery When Mrs. Doubtfire graced the silver screen in 1993, it did so with a comedic flourish that captured the hearts of audiences and critics alike. The film, directed by Chris Columbus and starring the incomparable Robin Williams, became a cultural touchstone, exploring themes of family, divorce, and identity with a lighthearted touch. Yet, amidst the laughter and poignant moments, there was a curiosity that lingered: why was this film, which flirted with mature content, deemed PG-13 rather than R? Robin Williams’ iconic turn in “Mrs. Doubtfire” may be revisited for an upcoming documentary.
Director Chris Columbus revealed to Insider during the 30th anniversary for the 1993 family film that he hopes to turn the 2 million feet of footage into a documentary about late actor Williams’ approach to improv acting.
“Yeah, we are talking about it and trying to get it done,” Columbus said. “I mean, there’s 2 million feet of film in that warehouse so there could be something we can do with all of that. There are roughly 972 boxes of footage from ‘Doubtfire’ — footage we used in the movie, outtakes, behind-the-scenes footage — in a warehouse somewhere and we would like to hire an editor to go in and look at all of that footage.”
He continued, “We want to show Robin’s process. There is something special and magical about how he went about his work and I think...

“Mrs. Doubtfire” director Chris Columbus revealed to Business Insider while celebrating the movie’s 30th anniversary that talks for a sequel to the beloved 1993 comedy only started in 2014 shortly before Robin William’s death. Without the actor, there was not a shot that Columbus would ever make a follow-up.
“It’s an interesting thing. Back then, there was an attitude that sequels were looked down upon by the artists. So Robin was against doing a sequel immediately after,” Columbus said. “He and I didn’t talk about a sequel until the year he passed away.”
“We had a script that was written and it was the last time I saw Robin,” he continued. “I went to his house and we sat down and talked about it and the script was really strong. Robin’s only comment was, ‘Boss, do I have to be in the suit as much this time?...

Robin Williams improvised so much dialogue while shooting Mrs. Doubtfire that the movie used up 2 million feet of film, according to its director Chris Columbus.
“Early on in the process, [Williams] went to me, ‘Hey boss, the way I like to work, if you’re up for it, is I’ll give you three or four scripted takes, and then let’s play,’” Columbus said in a new interview with Business Insider commemorating the film’s 30th anniversary. “By saying that, what he meant was he wanted to improvise. And that’s exactly how we shot every scene. We would have exactly what was scripted, and then Robin would go off and it was something to behold.”

It’s been nine years since we said goodbye to Robin Williams, who left behind a highlight reel of hilarious scenes and moments of impassioned drama. And no compilation would be complete without any number of clips from 1993’s Mrs. Doubtfire, which, probably for the better, never got a sequel despite being a hit with audiences, proving to be the #2 movie worldwide that year behind Jurassic Park.
As director Chris Columbus put it, “It’s an interesting thing. Back then, there was an attitude that sequels were looked down upon by the artists. So Robin was against doing a sequel immediately after.” Perhaps surprisingly, Williams only ever did a few sequels in his entire career: a Dtv Aladdin one, Happy Feet Two and a pair for Night at the Museum.

Robin Williams improvised enough for "almost two million feet" of 'Mrs Doubtfire' footage.Director Chris Columbus has recalled how late star Williams - who tragically took his own life aged 63 in 2014 - suggested working on "three or four scripted takes" before having some fun.Speaking to Business Insider, he said: "It got to the point that I had to shoot the entire movie with four cameras to keep up with him.“None of us knew what he was going to say when he got going and so I wanted a camera on the other actors to get their reactions…[The studio was] loving what they were seeing. Did they watch everything? I don’t think so. We shot almost 2 million feet of film on that picture.”Three decades later, Columbus has kept over 900 boxes of footage including heaps of outtakes and unseen behind the scenes clips, and he'd love to turn it all into a documentary.

Director Chris Columbus shot more footage for Mrs Doubtfire than Francis Ford Coppola shot for Apocalypse Now.
The 1993 comedy Mrs Doubtfire proved to be one of the very biggest hits of the much-loved and much-missed Robin Williams’ career. Directed by Chris Columbus and famous in the UK for the muddle over its BBFC certificate – that we’ve charted here – it’s a film that’s very much endured. To the point where there’s now a hit musical based on the movie.

Late star Robin Williams’ voice and likeness has been recreated for “years” via AI, according to daughterZelda Williams.
Zelda, who is also an actress, took to Instagram Stories to open up about how artificial intelligence has become a “horrendous Frankensteinian monster” for impersonating celebrities, like her father. The “Mrs. Doubtfire” actor died in 2014 at age 63.

I’ve already heard AI used to get his ‘voice’ to say whatever people want and while I find it personally disturbing, the ramifications go beyond my own feelings.”

Robin Williams was known for being a great dramatic actor as much as he was known for his comedies like Mrs. Doubtfire. In Insomnia, Williams used his dramatic chops when working alongside Al Pacino and Christopher Nolan. But when Williams tried to use his comedy on Nolan behind the scenes, Nolan didn’t take to it too well.
