How to Survive in Rio de Janeiro Without Working
claudio_carvalho19 August 2006
In Rio de Janeiro, the wealth Dora (Monique Lafond) breaks her relationship with her boyfriend, the alienated and vagabond aspirant writer Daniel O'Neil (Evandro Mesquita), and leaves him. Without a place to live, he looks for shelter in the small apartment of his fat and lonely best friend Meg (Eliana Fonseca). When Daniel gets a free ride with Meg's neighbor Macula, the police chase the guy, who is a drug dealer, and Macula asks Daniel to hide two packs of cocaine for him. Daniel has an affair with Meg's friend Barbara (Marisa Orth), a complicated woman, and feels a great attraction for Barbara's aunt Raquel (Sílvia Pfeifer). When Meg is fired from her job, Daniel decides to sell the drugs in his possess, getting in trouble with Macula's gang and the police.

"Não Quero Falar Sobre Isso Agora" is a typical "carioca" film that explores the beauties of the landscapes in Rio de Janeiro, and stereotypes the characters. The lead character, Daniel O'Neil, would be a typical native of Rio de Janeiro, alienated and vagabond, waiting somebody to discover his genius potential and never having a regular job. The insecure fat lady is a nice person. The sexy Bárbara is shallow and complicated, speaks a lot and never knows what is looking for. The story is delightful, funny and very entertaining. My vote is eight.
